Chapter 665: Pedro Is Back
Gracie offered a slightly awkward smile.
Although it was now confirmed that Pharrell wasn't Alberto's child at all, they had, after all, treated him as such before.
So now, seeing Connie and Pharrell under the same roof inevitably felt a bit awkward.
"Auntie, let me hold Pharrell for a bit," Connie said, reaching out her hands.
Gracie was taken aback.
It wasn't that she thought Connie would do anything to the child; she knew Connie well.
Even if Pharrell were truly Alberto's biological child, Connie would never harm him.
She just didn't expect Connie to suddenly want to hold Pharrell.
However, she didn't refuse and soon handed Pharrell over to Connie.
Connie took him carefully.
For some reason, Pharrell, who had been crying, suddenly stopped once Connie held him.
His big eyes stared at Connie for a moment, and then he even opened his mouth and smiled.
Seeing this, Connie's heart instantly melted completely.
"This child is just too adorable."
Pharrell seemed very comfortable in Connie's arms, showing no sign of crying again. Instead, he kept smiling.
Gracie watched happily and couldn't help saying,"It seems this child must have a connection with you."
"I think so too," Connie said with a smile.
Although her first encounter with this child wasn't pleasant.
But now, she seemed to genuinely like him.
An idea slowly formed in Connie's mind, but she hadn't made a final decision yet, so she didn't voice it.
A phone vibration sounded in the room.
Gracie took out her phone and saw someone was calling.
"What is it?"
The person on the other end said something.
Gracie listened expressionlessly and said, "Mm, got it."
But the caller didn't hang up immediately and said something more. This time, a note of surprise entered Gracie's voice. "Oh? He's been found? That's really not easy."
After saying this, she hung up.
Adeline asked, "Mom, what was found?"
"Not a thing," Gracie said with a smile. "A person. The Livingston family found Pedro."
Hearing this, Adeline was also surprised.
"How was he suddenly found?"
"Who knows," Gracie shrugged. "I heard he was found at a station near the Livingston Group headquarters."
The call just now was from a Mendoza family subordinate.
The first piece of news shared with
Gracie was that a deal the Mason Group really wanted recently had been successfully intercepted by their Mendoza Group.
Gracie wasn't surprised by this, as she had orchestrated it herself.
The second matter was that Pedro had been found.
This did surprise Gracie.
Not that she didn't expect it, but it was too sudden. Just a few days ago, she heard Mr. and Mrs. Livingston were at a loss, with no leads on Pedro. Today, he suddenly reappeared, and near the Livingston Group headquarters no less.
"I reckon this isn't simple," Gracie mused, stroking her chin. "Pedro went to seek revenge on Benjamin Tillman before, then suddenly disappeared. After quite some time, he suddenly returns...
"It's alright," Adeline smiled. "Mom, don't worry. Alberto and I will handle this. Later, I'll go to the Livingston estate to check on things."
"No!" Gracie's expression changed immediately.
Adeline had been kidnapped at the Livingston estate before.
It had left a psychological scar on Gracie.
So she never wanted her daughter to set foot in that place again.
"Oh, Mom, it's fine," Adeline walked over and took her hand. "I'll take many bodyguards, and Harrison will accompany me too."
Hearing that Harrison would be with her, Gracie felt somewhat reassured.
"After what happened before, the Livingston family certainly wouldn't dare do anything they shouldn't," Alberto said, a hint of fierceness flashing in his eyes. "Otherwise, they'd be seeking their own demise."
Pharrell suddenly started crying again.
Connie hurriedly soothed him, then turned and gave Alberto a reproachful glare.
"See, you scared the child."
"Huh?" Alhartn innerently ruhhed hic
"Huh?" Alberto innocently rubbed his nose.
"He's so little, how could he understand?"
"It's because your expression was too scary."
Watching Connie hold Pharrell and bicker with Alberto, a smile unconsciously appeared on Gracie's face.
Although many things had happened recently, at least they were all still together, safe and sound.
That was what mattered.
The Livingston Estate.
Pedro's return sent Mr. and Mrs. Livingston into raptures.
Although Pedro's condition seemed very off-he appeared utterly drained and listless, flinching instinctively when anyone tried to get close-regardless, their son was finally home alive and in one piece.
"Son, where have you been all this time?" Mrs. Livingston held Pedro's hand, her eyes red. "Why didn't you call home? Were yiu
kidnapped? Who harmed you?"
Pedro immediately said, "No. I was in a bad mood, wanted to be alone and clear my head outside, so I didn't contact home."
His manner of speaking seemed somewhat mechanical, as if rehearsed many times.
The Livingstons could naturally tell something was wrong.
"Son, what exactly have you been through? Can you tell Mom? You're home now, there's nothing to fear anymore!" Mrs. Livingston hugged Pedro tightly, crying.
But Pedro pushed her away, saying impatiently, "I told you, I'm fine. Why do you keep asking? | want food. Get me something to eat!"
"You..."
Mrs. Livingston wanted to say more, but Mr.
Livingston stopped her. He shook his head at his wife and said, "If Pedro doesn't want to talk now, don't press him. First, let the kitchen make something for the child."
"Sigh..."
Mrs. Livingston had no choice, her heart aching for her son. She went to instruct the kitchen, which prepared a huge spread of Pedro's favorite dishes, covering the entire table.
Pedro sat at the table, devouring the food ravenously. He didn't even use utensils, grabbing food with his hands, eating whatever he grabbed, his face and mouth covered in food. Mr. and Mrs.
Livingston were stunned.
Pedro used to be very particular about his image.
How had he become like this?
With him like this, who would believe nothing happened during this time?
"Pedro, you... eat slowly..." Mrs. Livingston said, heartbroken. "There's more if you want. Eat whatever you like, slowly, don't choke..."
Pedro ignored her completely, continuing to wolf down the food.
At that moment, a servant hurried in, looking nervous. "Sir, Madam, Miss Adeline Mendoza and Mr. Thomson are here."
****************
CHAPTER 666: Faking a Faint
Hearing this, Pedro's body stiffened immediately.
His hands trembled slightly, and the food in his mouth remained unchewed and unswallowed.
Mr. and Mrs. Livingston also grew tense.
"Why are they here?" Mrs. Livingston said uneasily. "Could it be they heard Pedro is back, so they came to... But that can't be. They clearly said before they wouldn't hold Pedro accountable for the past..."
After all, Pedro was involved in Adeline's kidnapping.
So naturally, hearing that Adeline and Harrison were here made them nervous.
"Regardless, since they've come, we can't turn them away," Mr. Livingston said with difficulty.
"Please, show them in quickly."
After losing various forms of support from the Mendoza family, the Livingston family was already in a much tougher spot than before.
Now, they truly dared not deepen the enmity with the Mendozas any further.
Soon, the Livingston servants ushered Adeline and Harrison in.
The moment Pedro saw them, intense hatred flashed in his eyes.
But almost immediately, he lowered his gaze, concealing the animosity.
"Adeline, Mr. Thomson, what brings you here?" Mrs. Livingston stepped forward with a forced smile. "Please, have a seat. 'i have someone bring coffee or juice."
"Don't trouble yourself," Adeline said with a polite smile. "I heard Pedro was back, so I came to see."
Mr. Livingston also forced a smile, the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes bunching up.
"Thank you for your concern," he said.
"Pedro here was just in a bad mood earlier, went off by himself to clear his head. Didn't contact the family, had us all worried. Too willful. Now that he's back, everything's fine."
"That's good to hear."
As Adeline spoke, her gaze fell on Pedro.
The moment her eyes landed on him, Pedro instinctively grabbed a napkin and wiped his mouth.
After all... Adeline was someone he had "liked." In front of her, he still instinctively wanted to maintain some image.
Even though he hated her now, believing his recent ordeal was connected to her, seeing her still made him, quite pathetically, covet her beautiful face.
Perhaps it was because he had never possessed her, leaving him deeply resentful.
Suddenly feeling a chill around him, Pedro shuddered. He glanced slightly to the side and met Harrison's icy gaze.
Instantly, a dense, crawling sense of fear filled Pedro's heart.
He mentally wished he could kill Harrison.
But at times like this, he was still afraid of him.
Pedro realized he was truly spineless.
If he continued like this, how could he ever
complete the task that man had given him?
While he was distracted, Adeline and Harrison had already walked up to him.
Pedro abruptly stood up. He rose so hastily that the chair behind him toppled over with a clatter.
A nearby servant was startled by him.
Mrs. Livingston quickly said, "Look at this child, really... hasn't seen you both for so long, got too excited... Such a grown man, not steady at all."
Adeline didn't comment further, simply asking,"Pedro, where did you go during this time?"
"Huh? I..."
Pedro hemmed and hawed for a long time, unable to say anything.
Where did he go for fun? He was clearly being tortured by Benjamin Tillman!
But he didn't dare say it. He didn't even dare complain to his own parents... During this time, he had been completely "broken" by Benjamin. Now, he simply didn't dare disobey Benjamin's orders.
Under Adeline's gaze, Pedro's mind turned to mush. Knowing he couldn't invent or bluff his way through, he simply rolled his eyes back and pretended to faint.
"Pedro!"
Mrs. Livingston, not realizing he was faking, saw him collapse and immediately cried out, rushing forward.
"Pedro, what's wrong? Someone, quick, call the doctor!"
With Pedro's "faint," the Livingston household descended into chaos.
Adeline and Harrison had no interest in staying longer and took their leave.
After leaving the Livingston estate and getting into the car, Harrison said, "Pedro was faking earlier."
"You saw it too?" Adeline raised an eyebrow slightly, smiling.
"Too obvious."
Only the parents, blinded by concern for their son, failed to see it.
"He wasn't 'traveling' during this time," Adeline said. "He was clearly captured."
"That Benjamin guy is really at his wit's end," Harrison said with a light laugh. "To pin hopes on Pedro again."
What could Pedro possibly do for him now?
The friendship between the Mendoza and Livingston families was already severed.
Pedro also couldn't keep appearing before the Mendozas.
"Regardless, we need to catch Benjamin soon to feel at ease," Adeline said, rubbing her temple with a headache.
Just thinking about that man now sent a chill through her.
Harrison reached out and stroked her head, saying, "Don't worry about it. Leave it to me." Adeline nodded. With him handling it, she naturally felt reassured.
"By the way, Memphis Shannon called me this morning," Harrison said. "He said Sonia Blackburn's fiancé has regained some memories, especially those related to Sonia."
"Really?" Adeline was genuinely happy for Sonia.
"That's wonderful."
She had been concerned about Sonia and her fiancé, but Sonia was very busy and hadn't had much time to contact her.
Now, knowing Sonia's fiancé was gradually improving, she could set her mind at ease.
Thinking about it... what if it were Harrison...
"What's wrong? What are you thinking about?"
Seeing her suddenly fall silent, Harrison asked.
"Hmm... I was thinking, what if you lost your memory and forgot me? What would I do?" Adeline sighed. "Just thinking about it feels suffocating."
Harrison was amused by her wandering thoughts but then said softly, "Even if I lost my memory, I would fall in love with you all over again. It's fine, don't worry."
Adeline felt a warmth in her chest, though she said, "Who's worried? If you lost your memory and forgot me, I'd just go find another boyfriend. Hmph."
"Oh?"
Hearing this, Harrison's eyes narrowed dangerously.
Adeline instantly sensed a dangerous aura. She shrank her neck and promptly corrected herself, "Ahem, I was joking. Don't take it seriously."
"Too late."
Harrison stretched out a long arm and pulled her into his embrace.
They were very close. Adeline could even see her own reflection clearly in his eyes.
"I really was joking..." Adeline said weakly.
"How could I find someone else? I love you the most. Only you."
