Chapter 650: Who Gave You The Audacity To …
"You say this one is a mistake?" Adeline Hensley smiled. "Then look at this one."
She handed the other document to Monica.
Monica didn't have the courage to take it.
Adeline wasn't angry at her refusal. She simply said, "This is a paternity test report from another medical team. The result is the same: Ferry is not my brother's son at all."
"Fake! It's all fake!" Monica's eyes turned red. She trembled and screamed almost maniacally, "We did a paternity test before! Ferry is clearly Alberto's biological son! I gave birth to Ferry; wouldn't I know whose child he is? Who forged these two reports? Was it..."
She had lost all reason and suddenly pointed a shaking finger at Adeline, screaming, "It was you! You had someone forge these, didn't you? It must be you! You want to fight Alberto for the Mendoza family's inheritance. You're afraid of Alberto having a son, afraid that Ferry will become the heir to the Mendoza family in the future, so you did this!"
"Enough!" Gracie Mendoza couldn't listen anymore and shouted sternly, "Who gave you the audacity to speak about my daughter like that?"
Although she knew this was just Monica's desperate struggle after losing her mind, she still couldn't tolerate anyone speaking about Adeline in such a way.
"Mom, it's okay." Adeline gave Gracie a reassuring look. "Don't be angry."
She didn't care about Monica's accusations at all.
In fact, a hint of mockery curled the corners of her lips.
"The person behind you certainly went to great lengths for this scheme," Adeline said.
"He must have bribed almost every hospital and paternity testing center, large and small, in this city."
That was why, whether it was the first paternity test or the second one Harrison Thomson ordered, the results showed that Alberto and Ferry were father and son.
The person behind Monica must have thought that even if they didn't believe the first test, they third one.
As long as every place in the city capable of performing a paternity test was taken care of, there would be no problem.
An ordinary person would never imagine that someone could bribe so many places.
Would the Mendoza family still refuse to believe the results after multiple tests and go elsewhere?
But as it happened, Adeline was not an "ordinary person."
Or rather, she had always harbored a sliver of suspicion toward Monica deep in her heart.
After all, Monica's acting wasn't that perfect; occasionally, she let slip that her words didn't match her heart.
So, even after Harrison had someone conduct another paternity test for Alberto and Ferry, and the result confirmed they were father and son, Adeline still didn't completely believe it deep down.
Harrison knew what she was thinking.
So, he hired two medical teams from abroad.
The entire process was completely confidential.
Both medical teams performed paternity tests for Alberto and Ferry.
The samples were, of course, provided by Adeline.
She kept the whole thing secret; no one noticed.
The final results from these two medical teams were the two documents Adeline had just shown Monica.
Alberto and Ferry were not biological father and son at all.
As for the person behind Monica...
Adeline had already suspected the Mason family, who had always been hostile to the Mendoza Group.
Couple that with what Wendy told her the other day, and she was even more suspicious.
So, she and Harrison had people focus their investigation on the Mason family.
And this investigation actually turned something up.
At this moment, Monica looked at Adeline in terror, nearly fainting.
But she couldn't collapse.
If she collapsed, what would happen to Ferry?
For some time now, the Mendoza family had believed Ferry was Alberto's child and had taken excellent care of him.
Now that they knew she had deceived them, how angry would the Mendoza family be?
Would they vent all their anger on her Ferry?
Ferry was so small; he knew nothing, and he was still sick..
"I... I don't know anything.." Monica stammered, trembling. "Ferry is Alberto's son. They are father and son. That night, I clearly slept with Alberto, and then I got pregnant..."
"I advise you to tell the truth," Adeline said, her face turning cold. "You don't really think we'll play along with you forever, do you?
Monica, you are in the Mendoza house right now."
Monica suddenly stood up like a madwoman and tried to run out, but the two maids behind her were prepared and pinned her down immediately.
"Let me go! I want to find Ferry! Let me go!"
Monica screamed hysterically. "My child! Don't . hurt my child!"
Tears streamed down her face, as if she were recalling some terrible memory.
"My child!"
Adeline frowned slightly. She raised her voice and said, "No one is going to hurt your child!
Calm down."
No matter what, they would never lay a hand on an infant still in swaddling clothes.
Even if Monica had deceived them, that was Monica's doing. What could a sick baby like Ferry know? He was innocent, and everyone knew that.
They wouldn't even use Ferry to threaten Monica. Adeline's words calmed Monica down slightly.
She looked at Adeline, tears streaming down her face, and said, "As long as you don't hurt Ferry...He... He..."
She wanted to say again that Ferry was Alberto's son.
But at this moment, she couldn't get the words out no matter how hard she tried.
Because she knew the game was over.
No matter what she said now, neither Adeline nor Gracie would believe a single word.
Adeline looked at her, feeling a mix of emotions.
She despised this woman for deceiving Alberto and the Mendoza family.
But seeing Monica like this, she knew Ferry must have suffered terrible things in the past.
Monica loved her child; that was beyond doubt.
As a mother, how desperate and painful must she have been at that time?
Adeline exchanged a glance with Gracie.
The tacit understanding between mother and daughter told them they were thinking the same thing.
Gracie sighed and said, "We absolutely will not hurt Ferry. You can rest assured on that point."
After all, she had genuinely loved Ferry for a time.
Even knowing now that Ferry wasn't her biological grandson, thinking of the child still brought a pang of tenderness to her heart.
Monica's emotions were still very unstable.
Asking her anything now probably wouldn't yield any results.
Adeline ordered for her to be taken to the nursery to be with Ferry first.
Perhaps seeing that Ferry was safe and sound would help Monica calm down.
The maids led Monica away.
Adeline looked at Gracie's forlorn expression, held her hand, and comforted her, "Mom, don't be sad."
