Chapter 661: Pharrell Seems Unwell
Monica was horrified and instinctively tried to hide in the wardrobe, but it was clearly too late.
"M-miss..." The nanny was stunned to see Adeline Hensley return; she never expected Adeline to come back.
Weren't they all supposed to be outside searching for Monica?
After leaving the room earlier, Adeline had grown increasingly suspicious.
Even if Monica was desperate enough to jump from the window, with servants and patrolling bodyguards all around, how could no one have seen her?
Moreover, that nanny was definitely acting suspiciously.
She asked Harrison Thomson, "Where do you think Monica would go if she really escaped?"
Harrison thought for a moment and said, "A saying comes to mind: the most dangerous place is the safest place."
In an instant, Adeline understood. She
immediately turned and hurried back.
Even before entering, she heard Monica's voice from inside the room.
Pushing the door open, she found Monica right there, inside the wardrobe.
Now panicked, the nanny immediately pointed at Monica and said, "Miss, it's not my fault! This woman forced me to do it! She... she said she has powerful backing, and if I didn't help her, she would have me killed!"
"What are you saying?" Monica glared at her furiously. "You're lying! You helped me for the money, and now you want to play the innocent victim? In your dreams!"
Adeline frowned in disgust; she had no patience for this argument between the two women.
However, at that moment, she suddenly noticed that Pharrell, in Monica's arms, looked unwell.
"Enough!" she said coldly. "Pharrell seems unwell!"
"What?"
Monica quickly looked down at Pharrell in her arms. Indeed, the baby's face was taking on a bluish tint, his tiny brows were tightly furrowed, and his mouth was opening and closing as if trying to cry but unable to make a sound.
"Pharrell!"
"Hurry, call the doctors!"
While instructing someone to summon the doctors, Adeline stepped forward and said to Monica, "Take Pharrell out first, to the medical wing!"
Due to Pharrell's frail health, the Mendoza family had set up a dedicated medical wing in the house, equipped with various medical devices.
Three family physicians and several nurses resided at the Mendoza estate, on call at all times.
Looking at Adeline's expression, a sudden, desperate idea flashed through Monica's mind.
She abruptly took two steps back and shouted at Adeline, "Stay away!"
Adeline stared at her in shock, demanding angrily, "Are you insane? Pharrell is in critical condition!"
"Yes, I know..." Monica's eyes reddened, and she gritted her teeth. "But I want you to let me go, to leave the Mendoza estate! Otherwise, I won't hand Pharrell over to you!"
From Adeline's reaction, it was clear the Mendoza family still cared about Pharrell.
In that case, she might as well use this chance to bargain for her own freedom!
She had completely lost any chance of becoming the young madam of the Mendoza family.
She refused to go to prison and waste the rest of her life behind bars!
"You...”
Adeline was both furious and astonished.
How could Monica be like this?
Didn't she love Pharrell dearly?
All her past behavior had painted her as a loving mother.
Yet now, in such an emergency, she was using her own child's well-being to threaten others?
"If you promise to let me go, and never hold me accountable for anything in the past, then I'l..."
Before she could finish, someone suddenly kicked her hard.
A sharp pain shot through her calf, and her grip loosened.
In that instant, someone seized the opportunity and caught Pharrell, cradling him.
Monica looked up.
The person now holding Pharrell was Harrison Thomson.
Earlier, one of Harrison's men had been standing beside him.
While Monica was confronting Adeline, Harrison had signaled to his subordinate with a glance.
Understanding immediately, the man had quietly moved closer while Monica's attention was fixed on Adeline and delivered that forceful kick.
This gave Harrison the chance to take the child.
"Go, quickly!" Adeline urged Harrison immediately. No matter what, she couldn't stand by and watch an innocent baby lose its life.
"Come back! You come back!"
Seeing her last sliver of hope vanish, Monica broke down, screaming. She tried to chase after them but was pinned down by Harrison's men.
The nanny Stood to the side, staring at her in horror.
"Are you crazy?" she stammered. "Your son is in that state..."
"I don't care! I need to leave here, let me go!"
Monica shrieked hoarsely.
But Harrison's men showed no mercy and didn't relax their grip in the slightest.
Seeing the situation turn bad, the nanny tried to run but was blocked by the Mendoza family servants.
"You can't leave now," a servant said. "You must wait for Miss Adeline's instructions."
Trembling, the nanny pleaded, "I... I know I was wrong, I..."
She was terrified now.
If anything really happened to Pharrell, wouldn't she also be one of the people responsible for his death?
Harrison and Adeline swiftly brought Pharrell to the medical wing, where several doctors and nurses were already prepared.
Seeing Pharrell's condition, their expressions turned grim. They quickly began examining and treating him, working to stabilize his condition.
"From the looks of it, Pharrell must have started feeling unwell at least half an hour ago!" one doctor said, his face stern. "Where was the person with him? How could they not have noticed?"
"If we had been any later, it might have been too late to save him!" another added.
If Adeline hadn't sensed something was wrong, hadn't returned to that room, hadn't noticed Pharrell's pallor earlier...
The consequences would have been unthinkable.
The doctors quickly performed emergency treatment on Pharrell.
Fortunately, his condition was temporarily stabilized.
"Miss Adeline, it would be best to take him to the hospital immediately," one doctor, sweating profusely, advised Adeline. "The child's condition is only stable for now; it could worsen at any moment. Our facilities here are adequate, but they're no substitute for a hospital."
Adeline understood this as well.
In an emergency where there's no time to reach a hospital, it's natural to have the doctors diagnose and treat Pharrell first in the home medical wing.
But now that there was time to get him to a hospital, it was undoubtedly the better choice.
Adeline and Harrison took Pharrell to the hospital, accompanied by the three family physicians.
Before leaving, Adeline instructed the household servants to keep a close watch on Monica and the nanny.
At the hospital, the medical staff conducted another examination of Pharrell. One family physician went in to assist and explain the earlier situation, while the other two waited in the corridor outside with Adeline and Harrison.
Seeing Adeline still looking deeply worried,
Harrison spoke up to reassure her, "Don't worry, he'll be alright."
