Chapter 663: You Were Clearly After Your Own...
They reasoned that, after all, Pharrell was Monica's son.
Although Monica had used Pharrell to threaten Adeline earlier, that might have been a momentary impulse. Now that she regretted it, naturally she would worry about her son's condition.
So they decided to take Monica to the hospital.
They thought watching her closely would be fine, but on the way, Monica still managed to escape when they were distracted.
These servants were both furious and resentful.
Monica had once again used Pharrell! And taken advantage of their soft hearts!
It turned out she never intended to go to the hospital to see her son; she just wanted to escape...
Didn't she worry about her son's condition at all?
"People have been sent to search, but she hasn't been found yet...".
Adeline said nothing more and hung up.
While angry, scolding the servants now was useless.
"That woman ran away?" Gracie asked, her face darkening.
She hadn't heard what the caller said, but from Adeline's words, she could roughly guess.
"Yes."
"Everything was 'for Pharrell'-all lies!" Gracie said angrily. "She was only doing it for herself. Now that things have gone bad, she abandons Pharrell and runs!"
Looking at Pharrell's pale little face, Gracie grew angrier the more she thought about it.
This Monica first helped the Mason family deceive them, then caused Connie to be kidnapped, and now she doesn't even care about Pharrell.
Utterly despicable!
Pharrell started crying at that moment, and Gracie hurriedly went to soothe him.
Harrison gently squeezed Adeline's hand and said, "I've already sent people to look for her. If... that woman is foolish enough, she might very well go to the Mason family."
Adeline pursed her lips and said, "If that's really the case, then it's terrible. Those people are ruthless and capable of anything. Since they dared to kidnap Connie in broad daylight and hand her over to human traffickers, they likely won't show any mercy to Monica either."
After all, to them, Monica is now useless.
Adeline didn't particularly care about Monica, but a human life wasn't a trivial matter.
Moreover, in this incident, Monica was a key witness.
Even if Monica was guilty, she should repent in prison, not die needlessly at the hands of those scoundrels.
Now, they could only hope Monica wasn't foolish enough to seek out the Mason family.
Late at night.
A figure wearing a hat lurked furtively among a cluster of abandoned buildings.
This place was originally a new residential complex under construction, but the developer ran, into trouble, went bankrupt, and fled midway, leaving it abandoned with no one to take over.
The person appeared highly alert, constantly looking around. After confirming no one was nearby, she pulled down her hat brim and hurried towards one of the buildings.
Once inside, she quickly climbed to the third floor.
At a corner of the staircase, a man was smoking.
Seeing her, the man sneered and said, "Come in. The young master is waiting for you."
She followed the man into one of the rooms.
The room had no door or windows, but this abandoned complex was remote to begin with, and even less likely to have visitors in the dead of night.
Several men were inside the room. Among them, one man in a suit sat on a chair.
He was the only one seated.
The newcomer took off her hat, revealing her face.
It was Monica.
Seeing the man in the chair, she seemed to have grasped a lifeline and said ecstatically, "Young Master, you really came! You have to save me...”
This man was Powell, the eldest son of the Mason family and the current head of the Mason Group.
"Useless," Powell said coldly. "Can't even handle such a small thing properly."
"I had no choice!" Monica said with a woeful expression. "Adeline Hensley had another paternity test done for Alberto and Pharrell, and the results showed they aren't biological father and son at all! You... you clearly said you would take care of that...”
However, she didn't dare complain too much, so she only muttered this much before falling silent.
"If you had performed better, would Adeline have suspected you? Would she have done the paternity test again and again?"
Monica didn't dare make a sound.
After a while, she said, "I really did my best. But now the truth is out. I definitely can't stay at the Mendoza estate anymore, and I might even go to prison: Young Master, please help me. Get me to a safe place. I ended up in this state because I was working for you!"
"Working for me? You can fool others, but you want to fool me? You were clearly after your own wealth and status!"
Powell saw it clearly.
Initially, to make Monica obey him, he had threatened her using Pharrell's safety.
Later, when he told her to take Pharrell to the Mendoza family, Monica's eyes had lit up.
That was unmistakably longing.
She longed for the luxurious life of the Mendoza family and the prospect of becoming the young madam.
Even if she was going undercover, living a life of luxury for a while wasn't bad.
Moreover, Powell had promised her wealth that would last several lifetimes once the plan succeeded.
At that time, Monica had almost eagerly agreed.
Right then, he knew he had chosen the right person.
A vain woman like her wouldn't tell the Mendozas the truth.
He had actually wondered if Monica would betray him if she really became the Mendoza young madam.
But then he thought, he still had leverage over her.
She had entered the Mendoza home because of the child. Once the Mendozas learned the child wasn't Alberto's, how could they possibly allow her to stay?
So Monica wouldn't easily switch sides to the Mendozas.
Thus, he began planning Monica's entry into the Mendoza family.
It went smoothly at first. The Mendozas truly believed Pharrell was Alberto's child and allowed Pharrell and Monica into the family. But he never expected Monica to be exposed so quickly...
"But... even if I have no credit, I still put in the hard work!" Monica pleaded. "You are so powerful, please help me. Once the heat dies down, if you ever need me to serve you again in the future, I absolutely won't refuse!"
Powell sneered. "What? You want to run away alone? Your son is still with the Mendozas, aren't you concerned about him?"
Monica's expression stiffened. After a moment, she said, "The Mendozas have grown fond of Pharrell, and they said they wouldn't harm an infant. Besides... that child, he originally wasn't..."
At this point, she suddenly clutched her head, a pained look on her face.
