Chapter 660: I Hope You Can Bear the Consequence

"This is strange," Adeline Hensley frowned.

"Could she have just vanished into thin air from the house with Pharrell?"

She looked at the nanny again.

The nanny, lost in her own thoughts, was staring blankly at the open window.

"Did you notice anything else unusual?" Adeline asked her.

The nanny was truly zoning out and didn't even realize Adeline had asked her a question.

"What are you thinking about? Miss Adeline is asking you a question," a nearby servant scolded.

The nanny started, finally snapping back to reality. "Huh? I... I don't know anything. I just went to get the formula... I didn't think Monica would run away with Pharrell... But, I... I wasn't responsible for watching them, so this can't be blamed on me, right?"

Upon hearing this, the expressions of the two servants who had been guarding the door turned sour.

They had been guarding the door dutifully the entire time.

Who could have guessed that Monica would be ruthless enough to jump out of a window holding a child?

Adeline didn't blame them. Instead, she said,

"Search the house carefully one more time, and then send a group of people out to search. If you find them, don't be too harsh. Pharrell is just a child, and he's sick, so don't scare him."

"Yes, Miss Adeline."

The servants acknowledged the order and dispersed.

Adeline looked at the nanny and asked coolly,

"Are you hiding anything from me?"

The nanny's face turned pale, and she smiled ingratiatingly. "Miss Adeline, how would I dare hide anything from you? Don't joke."

"I recall that you and Monica seemed to have a good relationship."

"No, not at all!" The nanny hurriedly denied it.

"I've only known her for a few days. We just exchanged a few extra words, that's all."

"Think clearly," Adeline said in a low, serious voice. "Matters concerning Monica are no small thing. Furthermore, given Pharrell's physical condition, he isn't suited to suffer any hardships. Staying at the Mendoza home ensures he gets the best care and treatment. If he wanders about outside with Monica, the consequences would be unimaginable."

The nanny smiled awkwardly and said, "Of course, I want Pharrell to be well too. But I really don't know how Monica got out. I'm really not that close with her.."

Before she could finish speaking, Harrison Thomson walked in.

Hearing that Monica had gone missing, Harrison had immediately arranged for people to search.

He had just been outside making a phone call.

Now, his cold gaze swept over the nanny.

She instantly became even more terrified, her lips trembling so much she couldn't speak.

"Very well. Remember this: If we find out in the end that you helped Monica escape, I hope you can bear the consequences."

After saying that, Adeline turned and walked away.

Harrison glanced at the nanny one last time before following Adeline out.

That single glance made the nanny's heart pound in her chest.

A few minutes after they left, the nanny opened the door, looked around, then closed it again. She walked over to the window to check.

After checking, she walked over to a large wardrobe in the room.

This wardrobe was used to store Pharrell's clothes and toys.

Previously, Gracie Mendoza, doting on her grandson, had wanted to build a walk-in closet for Pharrell connected to the nursery.

But considering Pharrell was still small and currently ill, they decided it would be better to prepare a new bedroom and walk-in closet for him once he was older and recovered.

So, they had a large wardrobe made and placed in Pharrell's nursery for the time being.

The nanny took a deep breath and opened the wardrobe doors.

Inside revealed Monica's panic-stricken face.

Her hand was covering Pharrell's mouth, likely afraid he would suddenly cry out.

"Relax, they didn't spot anything," the nanny said.

Monica let out a small sigh of relief and wiped the sweat from her forehead.

"Oh, you. How could you cover Pharrell like that?" the nanny chided. "He's still small, and he's sick. That's bad for his health! It's already uncomfortable enough hiding in this wardrobe..."

Although the wardrobe was large, it was still a bit suffocating for a person.

Monica looked at Pharrell in her arms with a complex expression. "I had no choice. If I didn't escape quickly, the Mendoza family would have killed Pharrell and me sooner or later!"

Although Adeline had repeatedly guaranteed she wouldn't hurt Pharrell, Monica couldn't bring herself to fully trust her after thinking it over.

She had deceived the Mendoza family so thoroughly before. How could they not hate her? How could they not hate Pharrell?

Moreover, she had caused Connie to be kidnapped!

Putting aside everyone else, Alberto Mendoza must hate her to the bone.

And even if, hypothetically... the Mendoza family really spared Pharrell, what about her? Was she really going to go to prison? She didn't want that!

"Sigh, I don't know exactly what happened between you all, but the Mendozas seem like good people. They wouldn't hurt Pharrell..." the nanny said hesitantly.

The details of Monica deceiving the Mendoza family hadn't spread completely through the household. The nannies had only heard vague rumors and weren't clear on what exactly had transpired.

This nanny indeed got along quite well with Monica.

This time, Monica had begged her with tears streaming down her face, saying that if she didn't escape, she and Pharrell would be finished. Since the Mendoza family was so powerful in Yewhaina, wouldn't killing her and Pharrell be as easy as lifting a finger?

Monica also said that if the plan was exposed, she would take all the blame and wouldn't drag the nanny into it.

She also promised that if she successfully escaped, she would give the nanny a large sum of money.

After thinking it over, the nanny couldn't resist the temptation of money. She gritted her teeth and agreed to Monica's request.

But with so many people in the house and guards at the door, helping Monica escape directly was impossible.

So, after discussing it, they staged this scene.

Most people, upon hearing Monica had run away, would immediately go outside to search.

They wouldn't suspect that Monica was actually still hiding in the room.

"What do you know? The richer people are, the better they are at pretending!" Monica said hatefully.

"There are still people searching the house right now." The nanny turned nervously to check the door, relieved to see it was still shut tight.

When she turned back and saw the look of resentment on Monica's face, her feelings were complicated.

She felt like Monica was somewhat different from before. What exactly had happened between her and the Mendoza family?

"I have to leave quickly," Monica said anxiously.

"Not now!" the nanny said hurriedly. "There are still plenty of people searching the house. If you go out, you'll definitely be discovered! Just hide in the room a little longer..."

"Hide until when?" Monica asked impatiently.

At that moment, the room door was suddenly pushed open.

"You don't need to hide anymore."

Adeline's cold voice rang out.
