Chapter 656: I'm Not That Fragile
They had deceived the entire family to this extent, even going so far as to use an innocent child.
Most importantly, they actually dared to kidnap Connie!
Alberto Mendoza would absolutely not let them off.
"Where is Mr. Thomson?" Connie asked Adeline Hensley. "I want to properly thank him. I wouldn't have made it out safely this time without his help."
"Something came up at the company, so he went to handle it," Adeline said with a smile.
"It's fine. We're all family, so there's no need to be so polite."
Connie was touched. She knew that the entire Mendoza family truly treated her as one of their own.
"Your leg needs to rest for quite a few days," Adeline said, looking at the cast on Connie's leg with a slight frown.
"It's nothing," Connie said, lowering her eyes.
Compared to the severe consequences she had imagined, this was already a good outcome.
Although... she originally could have avoided suffering through this at all.
"Where is Monica?" she asked.
"She's still at the house," Adeline replied.
"Someone is watching her."
"My kidnapping this time... it has something to do with her too, doesn't it?"
"Yes.”
A cold sneer curled the corner of Connie's lips. "I thought so."
The Mason family' and the Mendoza Group had been enemies for a long time, and it wasn't as if she had just become Alberto Mendoza's girlfriend yesterday.
Why did they choose to kidnap her now?
It was clearly to pave the way for Monica.
When Alberto told her that Pharrell wasn't his biological son, she had figured it all out.
Monica had always claimed she didn't want to drive a wedge between Connie and Alberto.
In reality, the thing Monica wanted most when she came to the Mendoza home was to seduce Alberto.
Unless Connie disappeared, Monica would never succeed.
"Alright, don't think about that," Alberto said, rubbing her hair. "The thing you need to do most right now is to recover well. You don't need to worry about the rest."
"We will definitely get justice for you," Adeline added.
Connie's eyes grew misty, and she nodded slightly.
Adeline didn't stay too long, leaving the room to give Alberto and Connie some space.
She hadn't really eaten much, and now that she felt a bit hungry, she was just about to ask someone to deliver some food when she saw someone approaching with several takeout containers.
She recognized the man; he was one of Harrison Thomson's subordinates.
"Miss Hensley," the man said, smiling ingratiatingly at her. "Mr. Thomson asked me to bring this to you."
Adeline paused for a moment before a faint smile graced her lips.
"Got it," she said. "Just take it to that room over there."
"Okay."
The man set the food down and left. Adeline entered the room and opened the containers.
Inside were all her favorite dishes.
Adeline's expression softened even more.
Harrison was incredibly busy himself, yet he still remembered to have someone prepare food for her.
Now that Connie was awake and her condition was stable, Adeline could finally relax completely, so naturally, her appetite returned.
She first took a photo and sent it to Harrison.
Harrison didn't reply immediately; he was likely still busy.
It wasn't until she was almost full that Harrison finally replied.
"Is it good?"
Adeline typed back: "Delicious. How are things on your end? Are you done?"
"Yes, I'm done. I'm heading to the hospital now." Adeline thought for a moment and said, "You don't need to come over. Connie is doing fine, nothing major. You should go straight home and rest. Mi be heading back soon too."
She thought Harrison would agree, but he replied: "I still have to go. Miss Miller is my future sister-in-law. Since such a big incident occurred, even though she is safe now, I must visit her."
Adeline laughed and said, "You're quite particular about etiquette, aren't you?"
"Naturally, I must be attentive to matters concerning my in-laws."
"Alright then, come over. I'll wait for you at the hospital."
However, Adeline didn't expect that when Harrison arrived, he would be followed by two subordinates who were dragging a man along.
Adeline felt the man looked somewhat familiar.
After thinking for a moment, she suddenly remembered. Back when Alberto was hospitalized, she and Harrison had gone to a restaurant near the hospital for a meal and had run into this man.
At the time, she had thought he looked familiar, as if she had seen him inside the hospital.
Why was he being held captive by Harrison now?
"This is..."
Harrison walked up to her, squeezed her hand, and said, "He's from the Mason family." Adeline understood. "So, he was sent by the Mason family to spy on us at the hospital?"
"Yes."
To be precise, this man had been sent to monitor Monica and the Mendoza family back when Alberto hadn't been discharged yet.
At that time, Monica had just brought Pharrell to find the Mendoza family. The Mason family, fearing complications, sent this man to the hospital to secretly keep tabs on them.
This time, hearing that Connie had been rescued and admitted to the hospital, the man was sent over again.
But he ended up being spotted by Harrison.
After a brief interrogation, the man confessed everything.
However, he didn't know the specifics.
He only knew that his superiors had sent him to watch Monica and the Mendoza family and to report any developments immediately.
He had been very careful all this time.
But today, he was suddenly discovered by Harrison.
Adeline now loathed the Mason family, so naturally, she found this man to be an eyesore.
Seeing her frown, Harrison knew exactly what she was thinking. He made a gesture, signaling his subordinates to take the man away.
Noticing the faint exhaustion in Harrison's eyes, Adeline pulled him into the lounge.
"Lie down for a bit," Adeline said. "We'll go see Connie later."
"Okay."
Harrison lay down, resting his head on Adeline's lap.
"You're exhausted, aren't you?" Adeline looked at him, her heart aching.
He had just helped Alberto rescue
Connie', and then immediately went to handle company matters.
"I'm fine," Harrison smiled. "I'm not that fragile."
Although he said that, Adeline could tell he just didn't want her to worry.
No matter how young or fit he was, he wasn't made of iron. Working this constantly, how could he not be tired?
"Next time, I'll go to the company with you," Adeline said. "I'll help you."
Harrison opened his mouth as if to say something, but before he could speak, Adeline covered his mouth with her hand.
"You're not allowed to refuse," she said, pretending to be fierce. "I've been idle at home for so long, I'm going to mold if this keeps up. I'm your Chief Secretary, after all. Are you afraid I can't handle the company's affairs? Besides, l'm a career woman! You can't deprive me of the right to be a career woman."
Harrison smiled helplessly. "How did you pin such a serious crime on me?"
"Hehe..." Adeline laughed mischievously.
"If you don't listen to me, I'll tell my Dad that you're bullying me."
