Chapter 624 Why Hasn't He Come Back Yet
When Adeline opened her eyes, the sun was already high in the sky.
She stretched, yawning involuntarily as she sat up in bed.
Suddenly, an image flashed through her mind.
It was of her and Harrison embracing under the moonlight.
Oh right... last night after drinking, she had dragged Harrison outside.
She had been a bit tipsy, but she hadn't blacked out.
So she could remember everything that happened last night.
Her kissing Harrison every few steps as they walked...
That guy must have been feeling pretty smug.
Scenes from last night played in her mind.
Adeline felt her cheeks grow warm.
Even though there was no need for pretense between her and Harrison, last night's version of her seemed a bit too lively and unrestrained.
But, how did she get back home later?
She had no memory of that.
She only remembered fooling around with Harrison for a while, then leaning against his chest and feeling sleepier and sleepier.
The last memory in her mind seemed to be of Harrison picking her up.
It seemed she couldn't resist falling asleep in Harrison's arms, and he must have carried her back.
Adeline couldn't help but smile.
With him by her side, even out in the middle of the night, she could fall asleep without a worry.
Picking up her phone, she saw a message from Harrison.
"Something came up, I had to go out first. Will be back tonight."
Must be business again.
Adeline didn't want to disturb his work. She sent a "Just woke up" sticker over and put her phone down before heading to the bathroom.
After taking a shower and coming out, she glanced at her phone.
Harrison hadn't replied after she sent the sticker.
Adeline didn't think much of it.
It was normal for him not to look at his phone or have time to chat when he was busy.
After blow-drying her hair and changing clothes, she went downstairs.
Just as she descended the staircase, she saw Monica sitting dejectedly on the living room sofa.
A cup of sobering tea was placed on the coffee table in front of her.
Adeline had instructed the maid about this last night.
Whoever woke up first among her, Joyce, and Monica this morning should have a cup of sobering tea prepared.
Although last night's wine didn't have much of a lingering effect and they wouldn't feel unwell upon waking, having a cup of sobering tea couldn't hurt.
However, the cup in front of Monica looked untouched.
Well, of course. Monica was preoccupied with her worries; how could she have the mind for tea? Hearing footsteps, Monica looked up.
Seeing it was Adeline, a flicker of guilt and nervousness passed through her eyes.
"You, you're awake," she greeted Adeline with a forced smile.
"Mhm." Adeline smiled back. "Drank way too much last night. Can't believe I slept until this hour."
"Yeah, I just woke up not long ago either."
Adeline sat down on a single-seat sofa. A maid soon brought her a cup of sobering tea as well.
She picked up the cup and took a few sips.
The tea was at the perfect temperature.
soothing as it went down.
Seeing this, Monica also picked up her own cup and took a few sips.
The cup had been sitting in front of her for a while and had cooled considerably, but she didn't mind. Her head was too full of thoughts about last night.
What had happened after she got drunk last night? What had she said to Adeline and Joyce? She only had a vague, fuzzy impression.
She remembered mentioning her boyfriend.
But specifically what she said, or how much, she couldn't recall at all now.
She was terrified that Adeline might have sensed something off from her words.
She had told Adeline before that her boyfriend gave her the silent treatment and that their relationship was bad.
If last night she had shown her love for her boyfriend... wouldn't that confirm she had been lying?
Some things are interconnected; a single move can affect the whole situation.
Once Adeline discovered she had lied about one thing, she would start doubting everything else.
However, judging by Adeline's demeanor now, nothing seemed unusual.
To be safe, Monica decided to test the waters.
After drinking a few sips of tea, she put down her cup and asked with a smile, "Did I drink too much last night? I hope I didn't cause you any trouble?"
"Not at all, don't worry about it." Adeline said.
"You just fell asleep after getting drunk."
"That's good. I kept feeling like I talked a lot last night. I was afraid I annoyed you."
"How could you?" Adeline smiled. "Weren't we there last night to drink and chat? We were happy you talked more with us. It helps us get to know you better."
"R-really? That's great." Monica's heart pounded.
"I was completely blacked out last night. What did I even talk to you about?"
"Nothing out of the ordinary, just some casual conversation."
Adeline's expression remained perfectly natural.
She didn't seem the least bit displeased.
This made Monica feel slightly less tense.
Maybe she really hadn't said too much last night.
Or perhaps, like her, Adeline and Joyce had also had too much to drink.
They might not remember what she said either.
Monica thought this possibility was quite likely.
Anyway, she shouldn't scare herself.
Her earlier nervousness and current sigh of relief did not escape Adeline's notice.
A faint, almost imperceptible shadow flickered in Adeline's eyes.
"Speaking of which, isn't Alberto supposed to come back to see Pharrell today?" Monica changed the changed the subject. "He... why hasn't he come back yet?"
"He's already on his way," Adeline said.
Alberto had just messaged her.
He would be home in less than half an hour and would have lunch here.
Hearing this, Monica perked up.
Even though Alberto was coming back to see Pharrell, she would at least get to see him.
In the future, Alberto would surely come back often to see Pharrell.
She would have plenty of time to build a relationship with him.
Alberto was still with Connie. That was indeed a problem.
But she couldn't think of any way to separate them.
Then she would have to let that man figure it out.
Twenty minutes later, Alberto indeed returned.
He looked in good spirits, not as downcast as he had been a few days ago.
Clearly, he was happy after making up with Connie.
Monica went up to greet him.
Alberto responded politely and courteously.
"Where's Pharrell?" Alberto asked.
Just as he asked, the nanny came over carrying Pharrell.
Pharrell was still asleep.
Alberto gently took him, cradling him with utmost care.
His eyes were full of tenderness and affection.
Watching this scene, Monica's eyes suddenly grew moist.
She had thought Pharrell would never experience a father's love in this lifetime.
But now, there was a man willing to give him that love.
It was just a pity that he wasn't his biological father...
