Chapter 638: He Doesn't Look Like My Brother
This made Anna feel even more suspicious.
Adeline Hensley was looking at the photos when her phone ringtone suddenly pierced the air, nearly startling her.
She answered the call and realized it was Hannah Evans.
"Miss Hensley, thank you so much," Hannah said, her tone filled with gratitude. "If it weren't for you, our cooperation with the Thomson Group couldn't have continued."
Of course, she couldn't see Harrison Thomson now.
But even if she could, she wouldn't dare to entertain any improper thoughts anymore.
Before, she hadn't realized Harrison would be so ruthless, which was why she had spoken so boldly in front of him.
Now that she had learned her lesson and managed to secure the chance to continue the cooperatión with great difficulty, she wouldn't let it all go down the drain.
Moreover, she knew very well that she owed all this to Adeline.
That was why she was calling Adeline.
"It's fine, you're welcome," Adeline smiled.
"As long as you keep your promise to me, then it's a happy cooperation."
"In any case, I still want to thank you,"
Hannah said. "Do you have time recently? I'd like to treat you to dinner."
If she was truly grateful, words weren't enough; there had to be action.
Hannah wanted to give Adeline a thank-you gift during dinner, and she also had some things she wanted to tell her.
Adeline felt that if she didn't agree, Hannah would probably remain uneasy. Besides, she didn't have much to do recently, so she agreed.
"I'll message you once I've set the time and place."
"Okay."
After Adeline hung up, a maid walked over, bent down, and whispered in her ear, "Monica tried to come over and eavesdrop on your call just now." Adeline had been sitting on the sofa in the living room the whole time.
However, around her, several maids had long been ordered to keep an eye on Monica's movements at all times.
Just now, when Monica wanted to eavesdrop, these maids hovered around, quickly scaring her off.
Hearing the maid's words, Adeline's expression remained unchanged as she said indifferently, "Keep watching her."
"Yes."
After the maid left, Adeline thought for a moment, then stood up and walked towards Frey's nursery.
At this moment, Monica was in the nursery, looking at Frey's little face with eyes full of motherly love and gentleness.
"Baby, you must grow up healthy and strong, you must live a good life..."
As she spoke, Monica smiled.
"You are the eldest young master of the Mendoza family. Of course, you will live a good life. In the future, you will inherit the Mendoza family business. You'll be like Sheldon, managing such a large empire."
After Monica finished speaking, she wanted to get some water. Turning around, she found Adeline standing at the door.
She jumped, her pupils contracting sharply.
"Adeline, you... when did you get here?" she asked with a trembling voice.
"Just came in," Adeline said. "I came to see Frey."
With that, she walked to the crib.
Monica's scalp tingled. She didn't know if Adeline had heard what she just said.
Actually, it wasn't a big deal: After all, everyone thought Frey was Sheldon Mendoza's son, so it was normal for her to say those things. Which mother wouldn't want her son to succeed in the future?
But facing Adeline, Monica always felt awkward and guilty.
Frey wasn't asleep. When Adeline walked to the crib, he stared at her with his big eyes.
Monica got up, walked to the side, and poured herself a cup of water with trembling hands.
"Frey seems much more energetic lately," Adeline said.
Monica had just brought the cup to her lips.
Hearing Adeline, she didn't get a chance to drink and quickly said, "Yes, ever since he came home, his spirits have been better than before. He probably knows this is his home and feels happy."
"Mm, it's good that he's energetic," Adeline said.
"Looking at him like this, I suddenly feel his eyes really look like you."
This made Monica happy. She said, "Frey is my son, of course he looks like me."
"But his nose and mouth don't," Adeline said.
"Who do they look like..."
Monica gathered her courage and said, "I think he looks a bit like Sheldon."
Adeline suddenly fell silent.
Her silence made Monica uneasy. She couldn't even bother drinking water, put the cup down, and walked to the crib.
Just as she approached, she suddenly heard Adeline say, "He doesn't."
"Huh?" Monica's heart trembled violently.
"I feel he doesn't look like my brother," Adeline smiled. "Looking closer, Frey doesn't seem to resemble my brother anywhere."
Monica was terrified. She didn't know if Adeline was just expressing her honest feelings or if she knew something.
"Frey is still small," she insisted. "And he's mixed race, so you definitely can't tell right now. Maybe when he grows up, he'll look like Sheldon."
Speaking of which, it was lucky her boyfriend was of Oriantonian descent, having immigrated to Yarlen with his parents when he was young.
So Frey was indeed of mixed blood.
Thinking about it, maybe that was one of the reasons that man approached her and Frey...
"Mm, you have a point," Adeline nodded.
Monica didn't dare continue this topic, so she switched to something else.
"Is Sheldon still busy at the company lately? I'm afraid his body won't be able to take it if this goes on."
"There's no helping it. The company ran into problems, he can't just ignore it," Adeline sighed.
"Speaking of which, the person deliberately sabotaging the Mendoza Group is truly detestable. But I heard from my brother that it's an old rival of the Mendoza Group, so it's not surprising they'd do something like this."
She suddenly looked at Monica and asked, "Do you know who the Mendoza Group's old rival is?"
Monica stiffened all over at the question. It took her a while to stammer, "How... how would I... I don't know..."
"True, how would you know about these things?" Adeline smiled, then turned back to
tease Frey, as if it had just been a casual question.
Monica secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
It must be fine, she told herself.
If Adeline really knew the truth, would she still keep Frey in the Mendoza home?
When Adeline looked at Frey, her face was clearly full of affection.
If she didn't treat Frey as her own nephew, why would she be like this?
Yannick Gentry had already boarded the plane back to the country.
Felix Gentry had issued a final ultimatum; he didn't dare drag it out any longer.
He also didn't dare run anywhere else.
Anyway, no matter where he ran, Felix would find him.
On the plane, he was on pins and needles.
