One night stand with my president(chapter 644)

 Chapter 644:A Moment of Peace

Russell Hunter smiled and said, "I just arrived myself, actually."

In truth, he had been there for a little while.

But he had remained sitting in the car, not going upstairs.

He wasn't sure why he had come to this place.

Ever since he had his lawyers file the lawsuits against Rogelio Hunter and Jasmine Hunter, he had been numbing himself with either work or alcohol.

He had been busy all morning again today.

When he finally looked up from the pile of documents, he suddenly thought of Lily Sparrow.

By the time he realized it, he was already in his car.

He supposed he must have wanted to go to the Sparrow residence.

So he drove to their apartment building.

But once he arrived, he suddenly became unsure if he should go upstairs. If he went, the Sparrow family would surely welcome him warmly, but what excuse could he use to explain his sudden visit?

Checking in on how they were doing? That was something a simple phone call could Hartmandle.

He had helped them a lot, but he couldn't recklessly treat their home as a harbor to ease his own negative emotions.

After sitting in the car for a while, he had been about to leave.

Then he saw Lily.

Hesitating briefly, he still got out of the car.

"I just bought groceries and was about to cook," Lily said with a smile. "How about joining us for lunch?"

Russell gave a slight nod, then reached out to take the two large bags from her Hartmands.

"N-no, it's okay, I can manage. I'm pretty strong," Lily quickly demurred, pulling back slightly.

But Russell insisted on taking everything from her Hartmands.

"If people saw a grown man like me standing by while a young lady like you carries so much, they'd laugh at me," Russell said gently. "Let me carry them."

Since he put it that way, Lily had to agree.

Fortunately, they took the elevator and quickly reached the apartment.

As soon as Lily opened the door, her two younger sisters came over to help with the bags.

Seeing Russell, they obediently greeted him.

"Hello, Uncle Hunter!"

"Uncle Hunter, are you staying for lunch?"

"Big sister said she's making sweet and sour ribs today!"

"The ribs my sister makes are really delicious."

"Last time's pizza was super tasty, right?

This definitely won't disappoint you."

Listening to the two little girls chatter away, Russell's mood inexplicably brightened. A slight curve touched his lips as he said, "Alright, then I'll have to give them a proper taste test this afternoon."

"Yay!"

Russell helped Lily carry the ingredients to the kitchen, then went to the living room to take off his coat before returning and starting to roll up his sleeves.

"You don't have to help, I can manage," Lily said hastily. "I can't let you do the work..."

He was their benefactor, and a guest.

Moreover, given Russell's status, he had probably never even set foot in a kitchen before, right?

"It's fine," Russell said. "I can't just come for a free meal without contributing."

Even though the apartment was his and their living expenses came from him, he didn't mention any of that now, giving her full respect.

Lily's eyes grew slightly moist, her heart filled with an indescribable emotion.

"I'm not much of a cook, but I can probably Hartmandle being your assistant," Russell added.

Lily nodded softly. "Then I'll have to trouble you."

Truthfully, she was aware of the recent events concerning the Hunter family.

She paid close attention to Russell's affairs, so she saw all the news related to him.

She knew he had sued his own father because, many years ago, his father had caused his mother's death.

She had also learned just how complicated the situation in the Hunter family was...

To be honest, her heart ached for him.

But she couldn't say it to his face, afraid of touching his wounds.

The two of them worked together in the kitchen.

Even though it was their first time cooking together, they cooperated quite seamlessly.

It was only at times like this that Russell could allow his heart a moment of peace.

After lunch, Lily's two younger sisters went back to their room for a nap.

Mr. Sparrow had been sleeping in his room and hadn't come out.

Only Lily and Russell remained in the living room.
