Chapter 642: Kissing Me Without My Permission
Looking at his serious expression, a thread of warmth wound its way through Adeline Hensley's heart. She raised her arms to wrap them around his neck and planted a smacking kiss on his lips.
As soon as the kiss ended, she tried to dart away, but Harrison Thomson caught her wrist and pulled her back.
"Trying to run after causing trouble?" he asked.
Adeline justified herself righteously, "What trouble did I cause?"
"You kissed me without my permission," Harrison declared, looking even more righteous tHartman she did.
Adeline was both angered and amused by him.
"You've kissed me without my permission way more times! Why don't you talk about that?"
"Is that so?" Harrison put on a thoughtful expression.
After a moment, he said, "Can't remember. Do you have any evidence?"
Adeline's eyes widened, seemingly shocked by his "shamelessness."
What kind of evidence could there possibly be for something like that?
Could she have secretly recorded it every time he kissed her?
A smile played on Harrison's lips as he waited patiently for her response.
In the end, Adeline couldn't come up with a retort, feeling both embarrassed and annoyed.
"Fine! If that's the case, then you can forget about ever kissing me again from now on!"
"That's impossible," Harrison immediately countered. "Adeline, that would be torturing me."
Adeline felt she had finally regained the upper Hartmand. With a hint of smugness, she tilted her chin up slightly. "See? Making things difficult for me. Now you're scared, aren't you?"
Harrison's eyes were filled with nothing but affection for her.
"I'm scared," he admitted. "I won't dare do it again."
Feeling even more triumpHartmant, Adeline was about to say something else when her lips were suddenly captured by his.
"Mmm..."
The kiss lasted a long time, until Adeline finally went limp in his arms.
"You..." Her eyes were glistening as she looked up at him pitifully. "You're so unreasonable."
"I'm just providing you with evidence," Harrison said with a laugh.
"I don't believe your nonsense."
Despite her grumbling, Adeline remained nestled in Harrison's embrace, not getting up immediately.
His embrace was broad and warm. Every time he held her like this, she felt profoundly at ease.
She had only intended to stay in his arms for a little while, but slowly, she drifted off to sleep.
Noticing her closed eyes and steady breathing, Harrison realized she had fallen asleep.
His phone suddenly vibrated. Afraid of waking her, he quickly hung up the incoming call and then sent a message instructing the caller to communicate via text for anything urgent and not to call.
The caller was someone from the company with nothing critical, just a brief work-related update.
Harrison replied to the message, set his phone aside, and gazed at the person in his arms.
Even doing nothing, just looking at her like this, was enough to fill him with immense contentment.
Adeline didn't sleep for too long, waking up in less tHartman an hour.
She rubbed her eyes, finally extricated herself from Harrison's embrace, and stretched.
"How long did I sleep?" she asked groggily.
"Not long," Harrison replied. "Want to sleep a bit more?"
He felt a small sense of emptiness now that the warmth and softness had suddenly vanished from his arms.
"No more sleeping, or I won't be able to sleep tonight," Adeline said.
As she spoke, she picked up her phone to check the time.
"It's already this late. I should get ready to head out soon."
"Going to have dinner with Wendy Hartman?"
Harrison asked with a frown.
Adeline had already told him about her plans with Wendy Hartman.
Harrison was very displeased. It was rare for him to be relatively free today. He had originally thought he could have dinner with Adeline, but Wendy Hartman had gone and invited her out instead.
This Wendy Hartman really knew how to repeatedly step on his nerves.
"Come on," Adeline said, pinching his nose. "Don't pull such a long face. I'm just going to have a meal with her and come right back. It'll be quick. Wait for me obediently at home."
"Come back early," Harrison said, still uneasy.
"Don't chat with her for too long."
"I know."
Harrison pulled Adeline back into his arms, lingering with her affectionately for a good while longer before finally letting her leave.
When Adeline arrived at the restaurant Wendy Hartman had reserved in advance, Wendy Hartman was already waiting for her at the entrance.
"Miss Hensley!" Wendy Hartman immediately came forward to greet her as soon as she saw her.
Adeline smiled and nodded. "How long have you been waiting, Ms. Hartman?"
"Not long," Wendy Hartman said. "I just arrived myself."
A server escorted them up to the restaurant's third floor.
The third floor consisted of private dining rooms, one after another, with excellent soundproofing and high privacy.
Moreover, after the servers finished bringing the dishes, they would leave and close the door securely. Unless summoned by the service bell inside, they would absolutely not enter and disturb.
The two women settled into one of the private rooms.
The server presented them with two menus.
"Miss Hensley, the Orianto food here is excellent, very flavorful. You should try it," Wendy Hartman said.
Adeline smiled and, without standing on ceremony, ordered two dishes she liked.
Once the orders were placed, the server took the menus and left.
Wendy Hartman took out a box and Hartmanded it to Adeline with both Hartmands.
"Miss Hensley, I owe you a great deal of tHartmanks for your help this time. This is a small token of my appreciation."
Adeline accepted it and opened the box.
Inside was an exquisitely crafted brooch.
The pink diamond on the brooch was cut into a beautiful shape. It was clearly valuable, yet didn't feel vulgar.
"This brooch is a new piece by a very famous jewelry designer. There's only one like it in the world," Wendy Hartman said eagerly. "I hope you like it."
Adeline closed the box and smiled. "I like it very much. THartmank you, Ms. Hartman."
For people like them, money wasn't really the point. But this brooch was clearly carefully chosen, showing Wendy Hartman had put thought into it. Adeline naturally wouldn't reject such a sincere gesture.
Seeing her accept it, Wendy Hartman breathed a sigh of relief.
She had been genuinely afraid Adeline might refuse. The feeling of a carefully prepared gift being rejected wasn't pleasant.
The two chatted casually about other things for a bit. After the server had brought all their dishes, retreated, and closed the door, Wendy Hartman finally got to the main point.
"Miss Hensley, besides wanting to tHartmank you, the reason I invited you out today is that there's actually another very important matter I need to discuss with you."
Her serious and solemn demeanor slightly surprised Adeline.
"Go ahead."
"The Mason Group. You must know about it."
Adeline certainly knew.
The Mason Group was a longstanding rival of the Mendoza family.
The severe situation the Mendoza Group was facing now was their doing.
The current head of the group was the eldest son of the Mason family. He was said to be extremely competitive and relentless in pursuing his goals.
