Chapter 636: He Wouldn't Lightly Dismiss Some..
The process went smoothly.
Just as Felix Gentry had predicted, Mr. Lewis was determined to be an unknowing accomplice.
Furthermore, given his severe illness and short life expectancy, he would not be required to serve jail time.
The police had verified all these details.
Once the questioning was complete, the officers prepared to leave. Before they departed, they told Fiona that they would contact her if any further issues arose. They even patted her two younger sisters on the head, encouraging them to study hard.
The two little girls nodded obediently.
After the police left, the tension that had been holding Fiona's body rigid finally dissipated.
Under such circumstances, it was impossible not to be nervous.
To be honest, if Felix hadn't been there, her anxiety would have been far worse.
Noticing her emotional state, Felix spoke
gently,"It's over now. Don't worry. If the police contact you in the future, just cooperate with. them."
Fiona nodded slightly.
She wanted to say "thank you" to Felix again, but on second thought, even a thousand "thank yous" wouldn't be enough to express the gratitude she felt.
"Sis, Sis, the gift..."
Behind her, the two younger sisters whispered, gently poking Fiona in the back.
Fiona was still a bit hesitant.
However, Felix heard the muttering and asked, "What is it? Do you have something to tell me?"
"Um..”
" Fiona braced herself. "Actually, we made a small gift together. We wanted to give it to you."
"Hm?"
Felix hadn't expected this at all. A trace of surprise flashed across his eyes.
"Wait a moment."
Fiona ran back to her room and quickly returned with a small box, handing it to Felix.
"We made it ourselves. For you."
As she said this, Fiona didn't dare look at Felix.
She was truly afraid that he might dislike it.
Felix took the box and opened it. Inside lay a string of wind chimes.
It was beautiful, and one could tell that the person who made it had put their heart into it.
Felix's gaze softened. He solemnly closed the lid and said, "Thank you."
Fiona's face turned a bit red. She whispered, "It's not worth much money, but..."
She wanted to say that their hearts were in it.
But after thinking about it, she simply said, "I hope you like it."
"I do. I like it very much," Felix said.
"You have very skillful hands."
He was generally indifferent to things like wind
chimes and didn't particularly care for handmade crafts, but he knew this specific wind chime contained the sincerity of Fiona and her sisters.
He would never lightly dismiss someone's sincere intentions.
A deep sense of joy welled up in Fiona's heart, like a child finally getting the candy they had longed for-sweet and fragrant as it melted on the tongue.
She shouldn't have thought of Felix that way.
How could someone as good as him look down on them?
She wanted to say something more, but Felix's phone suddenly rang.
She swallowed her words back down.
Felix answered the call. The person on the other end said something that instantly coated his brow in a layer of frost.
"Tell him, if he keeps dragging his feet and refusing to come back, I will go and fetch him personally."
His voice was cold, seemingly laced with a touch of ruthlessness.
Fiona couldn't help but shiver.
Since she had met Felix, it seemed she had never seen him like this.
Her father was right; she and Felix were from two completely different worlds.
What she usually saw was just one side of him.
What he was like in the business world, how he treated those who tried to harm him, how he fought against others...
She knew none of it, and likely never would.
Putting down the phone, Felix turned to see the two little girls looking at him timidly.
Realizing his demeanor just now must have scared them, his expression softened again.
"I'm leaving now. Call me if anything happens."
Fiona nodded and walked him downstairs.
She watched his car drive away before turning to go back upstairs.
Inside the car, however, all of Felix's gentleness vanished.
His fingers gripped the steering wheel tightly, trembling slightly.
Jolene's words echoed in his ears.
Did Yannick Gentry really kill his mother?
He had demanded Yannick return to the country to pay respects to his mother, but Yannick kept stalling, refusing to return.
Was it refusal, or was it fear?
If Yannick was afraid...
Then what Jolene said was very likely true.
Felix closed his eyes. He felt as if he were bobbing up and down in a massive tidal wave, trying with all his might to grab onto something, but reaching out only to grasp empty air.
He felt like he was suffocating.
The café near the Thomson Group headquarters had launched a new product.
Before heading into the office that morning, Anna went to the café, wanting to buy a cup to try.
The café was crowded at that hour, filled with people there for the new drink. As soon as Anna walked in and saw the long line, she felt faint.
If she stood in that line, she would definitely be late for work by the time she got her order.
Although regretful, she could only turn around and leave, planning to come back and buy it another time.
Just as she walked out of the café, she heard someone call out behind her.
"Miss, wait a second."
Anna wasn't sure if she was being addressed, but when she turned around, she saw a handsome young man walking out of the café as well. He was looking at her with a smile, holding two cups of coffee.
"Can I help you?" Anna asked politely.
"I saw that you seemed to want to buy coffee just now,' the handsome guy said.
"Did you leave because there were too many people?"
"Yes, I wouldn't make it to work in time."
"Then take this one." The guy handed her one of the cups he was holding. "It's the new drink from this shop. I just bought it."
Anna didn't take it immediately. Instead, she asked suspiciously, "For me? Why?"
The handsome guy explained helplessly, "My colleague asked me to pick one up for him, but right after I bought it, he told me he has a sudden emergency and isn't coming to the office today. I can't drink two by myself. Since you didn't get one, I might as well give it to you so it doesn't go to waste."
His explanation sounded reasonable.
Anna took the coffee and looked at it. It was indeed from that shop, the packaging was normal, and the seal was tight with no signs of having been opened.
This shop's coffee packaging was unique; if it had been opened, it would be obvious.
"How much is it? I'll transfer the money to you."
"No need," the guy said.
"How could I drink your coffee for free? This place isn't cheap," Anna insisted. "I should pay you."
Seeing her persistence, the guy took out his phone. "Then let me add you as a friend."
"No need to add me," Anna said. "Just show me your payment QR code."
Hearing this, the handsome guy's face went stiff for a split second.
"What's wrong?" Anna asked.
"Nothing." The guy smiled and pulled up his personal payment code.
Anna scanned it and transferred the money for the coffee.
"Thanks for the coffee. I'm off now."
After speaking, Anna turned and left.
The handsome guy remained standing there, watching her retreating figure, his gaze growing heavy.
