Chapter 603: She Wants to Move Out of the Me...
"Connie will believe me," Alberto Mendoza said.
"Perhaps... But right now, the most important thing isn't that, but whether she's still willing to stay by your side," Monica said. "What if, after thinking it over, she decides not to be with you?"
Alberto's heart twisted sharply with pain.
He had considered this possibility himself.
But hearing someone else voice it aloud still hurt terribly.
"I will respect her decision," Alberto said, his expression cooling. "But there's one thing I must make clear to you. Whether Connie is willing to be with me or not, it's impossible for you and me."
Although Monica kept insisting she "didn't want to come between him and Connie," he could vaguely sense her underlying intentions.
He didn't want to harbor too much ill will towards Monica, given they shared a child.
But he had to be clear with her.
He could offer her a comfortable life, ensure her peace and security for the rest of her days.
But love, marriage... he couldn't give her that.
In this lifetime, his love, his marriage, could only belong to Connie Miller alone.
Hearing his words, Monica looked embarrassed.
She considered herself reasonably attractive, even bearing a slight resemblance to Connie Miller. So why was Alberto Mendoza so resolutely cold towards her? Of course, deep down, she didn't actually have feelings for Alberto.
She was doing all this for her child.
If she failed to get close to Alberto Mendoza and truly integrate into the Mendoza family, what would happen if those people harmed her child?
Even with the Mendoza family's
protection now, she didn't dare take the risk.
Moreover, if the Mendozas found out she had deceived them along with that group, they would surely abandon the child!
So she had no choice but to continue trying to get closer to Alberto.
"So, do you accept my proposal?" Alberto Mendoza asked again.
Monica took a deep breath. "This matter isn't really just for the two of us to decide, is it? Pharrell is our son, but he's also Mr. and Mrs. Mendoza's grandson. What if they want Pharrell to live in the Mendoza residence, to be raised by the Mendoza family?"
"I will talk to my parents about that."
"Alberto, the child is still very ill, it's serious. Mr. and Mrs. Mendoza must be very worried.
Bringing this up with them now will only add to their troubles," Monica said sincerely.
"Wouldn't it be better to wait until Pharrell has recovered?"
Alberto Mendoza's attitude, however, remained firm.
"Pharrell's illness must be treated, of course. But I also want to settle this matter sooner rather than later."
Suddenly, Monica covered her face and began to cry.
"I understand your resolve, but we must consider Pharrell's feelings. When he recovers and grows up, if he asks me why our family of three couldn't live together, what should I tell him? Should I tell him he was an accident, that he wasn't wanted by his father?"
Alberto was taken aback.
"I didn't mean..." he started, but then didn't know how to continue.
To be honest, this child truly wasn't expected or wanted by him.
Because it wasn't his and Connie's child.
But now that the child was born, he had to take responsibility as a father. He would also love his child wholeheartedly.
"Alberto, I want to wait and see about Pharrell's treatment. He's so young, and with this illness, it's still uncertain how to treat him, whether he needs surgery now, or
hospitalization. So I was thinking we should wait and see... If Pharrell needs to stay at the Mendoza residence first, could I go with him?" Monica pleaded. "We can discuss the future later. But, at least until Pharrell recovers, if he goes to the Mendoza home, I want to be by his side."
Alberto's face showed hesitation and inner conflict.
Connie Miller was currently staying at the Mendoza residence.
If Monica moved in too, Connie would definitely move out.
And once she moved out, whether she would ever return was uncertain...
The thought made Alberto's heart ache dully.
But, before Pharrell recovered, Gracie and Isaac Mendoza would undoubtedly be unwilling to let him leave.
If hospitalization wasn't required, they would certainly bring Pharrell back to live at the Mendoza residence.
"I just can't bear to be apart from Pharrell. I know the Mendoza family will give him the best care, but I am his birth mother. I can't let him go, Alberto. I hope you can understand a mother's heart."
Hearing Monica say this, Alberto found it impossible to refuse outright.
"I understand," Alberto said, rubbing his temples.
"I will discuss this matter carefully with my family."
Monica secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Judging by Alberto's attitude, she knew there was a chance.
As long as she could move into the Mendoza residence, it would be much more convenient for her to carry out her plans later.
"You should go now," Alberto said, his emotions complex. "I need to rest."
"Alright, you rest. If you need anything, just call for me," Monica said as she stood up.
Alberto gave no response.
Monica had no choice but to turn and leave.
Adeline Hensley received a call from Joyce
Monroe.
"It's not good, Qingli!" Joyce said anxiously.
"Connie just came out of her room with a suitcase! She says she wants to move out of the Mendoza home first! We tried to stop her, but we couldn't... What should we do now?"
Connie Miller's determination to leave was absolute.
And they were also worried that forcing her to stay would only cause her more pain, so they didn't dare to physically restrain her.
By now, Connie was almost at the main gate of the Mendoza estate.
Hearing this, Adeline's brow furrowed deeply.
"She..." Adeline felt equally anxious.
None of them wanted Connie to leave the Mendoza home.
But forcing her to stay wasn't the right approach either.
"Let it be. Let her go out and have some space for now," Adeline said to Joyce over the phone.
"I'll arrange for someone to follow her discreetly."
It wasn't to track her movements, but to protect her.
After everything that had happened recently, they were still on edge.
Connie was already suffering enough; she shouldn't have to face any further harm.
"Alright then..."
After hanging up, Adeline quickly sent a message arranging for someone to discreetly follow and protect Connie. Then she went to inform Alberto Mendoza about Connie leaving the Mendoza home.
Hearing the news, Alberto's expression grew increasingly somber.
Just moments ago, he had been worried that if Monica moved into the Mendoza home, Connie might move out.
He never expected Connie would move out so soon, and on her own accord.
But at this point, he could only respect Connie's decision.
Forcing back the moisture gathering in the corners of his eyes, Alberto said to Adeline,
"Qingli, could you please arrange for some people to protect her....
"I already have. And we're family, why talk about it being trouble?" Adeline said with a bitter smile.
"I've always..."
She had been about to say she had always seen Connie as her sister-in-law.
But thinking better of it, she stopped, realizing that saying so now would only twist the knife in Alberto's heart.
