One night stand with my president(chapter 594)

Chapter 594: Are You Worried I Would Harm My…

Gracie Mendoza had just finished preparing soup at home when she heard about a woman showing up with a child for Alberto Mendoza.

"Madam, they say that woman keeps insisting her child is the Young Master's!"

Having lived for decades and seen much of the world, Gracie Mendoza's initial shock quickly gave way to a measure of calm. As she transferred the soup into a thermal flask, her mind raced, strategizing how to handle this situation.

First and foremost, having a grandchild would naturally bring joy.

Although she had never pressured her son heavily about marriage or children, at her age, the idea of doting on a grandchild was certainly appealing.

But then she thought of Connie Miller, and her heart felt conflicted.

There was no question-she was very fond of Connie.

My When Alberto and Connie broke up the first time, she had been quite displeased and even felt like scolding Alberto. But seeing how despondent he was, she couldn't bring herself to do it.

Later, when Alberto and Connie reconciled, she was happier than anyone.

In her heart, Connie was the daughter-in-law sne had already accepted.

And now, somehow, Alberto might have fathered a child.

How could Connie possibly be happy about that?

As a woman herself, Gracie could naturally understand how Connie must be feeling.

But her own flesh and blood, her potential grandson, couldn't be ignored either.

Gracie Mendoza frowned deeply, her heart tangled in conflicting emotions.

This matter required careful consideration.

Carrying the prepared soup, she hurried to the hospital.

Isaac Mendoza was already asleep.

She found Adeline Hensley to discuss how to handle this situation.

"Mom, honestly, no matter how much we discuss it, it might not change much,"

Adeline said helplessly. "In the end, it depends on what my brother, Connie, and also Monica decide."

Monica was the child's mother; she couldn't be completely sidelined.

"Ah... That wretched boy, Alberto!" Gracie

Mendoza couldn't help but curse. "I told him long ago to drink less when he's out! It leads to trouble! And he never listened! Now look what's happened-he might even have a child!"

After venting, Gracie asked, "And Connie? How is she holding up?"

"She's with my brother right now," Adeline said.

"We probably shouldn't disturb them."

Gracie nodded, then couldn't resist asking, "And the child? Where is the child? I want to see him." That could be her very own grandson!

Just the thought made Gracie excited.

"I'll take you."

Adeline brought Gracie Mendoza to see Monica.

Having previously worked at the Mendoza Group, Monica recognized Gracie immediately.

She stood up, holding the infant, and addressed her timidly: "Madam."

As Monica had been just a low-level department employee before, Gracie had no recollection of her. She nodded slightly, then her gaze fell upon the infant in Monica's arms.

Eagerly, Monica said, "Madam, this is Alberto's child, your own grandson..."

For some reason, Gracie Mendoza felt no immediate sense of closeness to this infant.

But then, she had never been a grandmother before. She figured this reaction was probably normal for a first meeting, especially under such sudden and shocking circumstances.

"Let me hold him," Gracie said, reaching out.

Her expression and tone were normal, even carrying a note of grandmotherly affection.

But Monica's face suddenly changed. She pulled the infant closer against her chest.

It was an instinctive reaction.

And Adeline Hensley noted it carefully.

"What are you doing?" Gracie Mendoza asked, puzzled. "You said it yourself, this is my grandson. Can't I, his grandmother, hold him? Are you worried I would harm my own grandson?"

"N-No, it's not that," Monica said with an awkward laugh. "It's just... I've never let anyone else hold him before. I'm just not used to it yet. Of course you can hold him, you're his grandmother."

With that, she carefully handed the child over to Gracie Mendoza.

Gracie took him, cradling him in her arms.

Looking at the baby's small face, Gracie's heart softened considerably. But then she frowned.

"This child... why is his complexion so pale?"

"The child is ill," Monica said.

"What illness? Has he been examined by a doctor?"

Adeline Hensley glanced at Monica and said quietly to Gracie, in Chinese, "Before you arrived, I suggested having the doctors here examine the child. But she seemed very distrustful and absolutely refused to let anyone take the baby away."

"Why? This hospital is one of the top in all of Yewhaina, and it has many expert physicians. Did you tell her that?"

"I did. She adamantly refused. She's the child's mother; I couldn't force her."

Mother and daughter were speaking in Chinese.

Monica couldn't understand, and could only watch nervously as Gracie Mendoza held the infant.

"Could she be lying? Maybe the child isn't sick at all?" Gracie Mendoza frowned deeply. "But the child really does look very unwell."

"I think something must have happened before," Adeline speculated. "Perhaps this child was harmed, or nearly harmed, in the past. That would explain her extreme protectiveness now."

Gracie Mendoza nodded, finding Adeline's analysis reasonable.

"Madam, could I have the child back now?"

Monica asked cautiously. "He might not be used to being held by others. I'm afraid he might start crying. His health is already poor; if he cries too much, it might make his condition worse."

Gracie Mendoza didn't comment and handed the child back to her.

"When will the paternity results be ready?"

Gracie asked next.

Adeline checked the time. "Probably a few more hours."

Gracie raised a hand to massage her temple, smiling wryly. "At times like this, you really feel how slowly time passes."

Just then, someone knocked on the door-it was a food delivery. Adeline, having faintly heard Monica's stomach rumble earlier. had arranged Monica's stomach rumble earlier, had arranged for some food to be sent over.

Monica seemed surprised that Adeline had gotten food for her. Her eyes suddenly reddened, and she looked at Adeline as if she wanted to say something but hesitated.

"Did you want to say something?" Adeline asked.

Monica glanced down at the child in her arms.

"It's nothing... I just wanted to say... thank you."

After an anxious wait, the paternity test results finally arrived.

The results indicated that Alberto Mendoza was, indeed, the biological father of the child

The moment he learned the result, a loud ringing seemed to fill Alberto's ears.Instinctively, he gripped Connie Miller's hand tighter, terrified she would simply walk away.

Connie, however, seemed much calmer now.

She didn't leave immediately, but she hadn't spoken a word either. She iust stared blankly at the floor, lost in her thoughts.

Monica, meanwhile, seemed different from before.

Her eyes red, she said, "Now it's confirmed. This child is a Mendoza. Please, I'm begging you, save him. Don't let him leave this world so young.."

After speaking, she proactively offered the child for Gracie Mendoza to hold.
