Chapter 544: The Mendoza Family Owes Her
The Westfall Tower was typically uninhabited.
Most of the time, only basic cleaning was necessary-just enough to keep it presentable in case someone came by.
It was a job that many people would envy.
Yet, Camilla seemed unwilling to accept it.
One of the workers, who had been assigned to the kitchen, couldn't help but speak up.
"Philip, if she doesn't want it, let me take it instead. We can switch, and she can go work in the kitchen."
"I want to switch too," another worker said.
"Let her go do the shopping."
Camilla's eyes brightened at the suggestion.
Both of these tasks were far more convenient for her, compared to cleaning the Westfall Tower.
If she were stuck cleaning there every day, she'd have no chance to interact with anyone in the Mendoza family.
"Yeah, let me switch with them," Camilla said, raising her voice slightly. The room became noisy, and Philip's expression hardened. He snapped, "Quiet down!"
The workers immediately fell silent, sensing
Philip's anger.
He looked at Camilla first, his voice stern as he said, "I've already assigned the tasks for the day. If you want to switch, fine. But what do you think you're doing? What about the rules? Do you think I have all the time in the world to deal with you?"
Camilla lowered her head, feeling frustrated but not daring to show it on her face.
"I've already reported the assignments to Mrs. Mendoza, and she approved them," Philip continued, his tone growing more agitated. "If you insist on switching, then leave! The Mendoza family doesn't need people like you."
The workers went quiet, sweating nervously.
The Mendoza family had great benefits, and getting a job here was something they'd worked hard for.
Getting kicked out now would be a missed
opportunity.
Camilla quickly kept quiet.
She didn't want to be fired.
Staying in the Mendoza family meant having a chance. If she got kicked out, she would lose everything.
"Camilla, do you have anything to say?" Philip asked coldly.
Camilla shook her head immediately. "I understand. I'll go clean the Westfall Tower."
"Good. Now, go back to your tasks."
Philip turned and stormed off.
The workers, relieved but still anxious, began blaming Camilla.
"Look at you. It's all your fault for starting this."
"Yeah, if you hadn't complained about Philip's assignment, he wouldn't have gotten upset."
"You got such a good job, and you're still not satisfied. What do you want?"
"Honestly, she should be cleaning the bathrooms instead."
The room filled with complaints, and Camilla felt her irritation grow.
When she first said she didn't want to go to the Westfall Tower, these people were eager to switch tasks with her.
If they hadn't caused such a ruckus, Philip wouldn't have gotten so upset, and the blame wouldn't have been on her.
But now, she didn't have the energy to argue with them.
She had more important things to do.
The young woman she was working with at the Westfall Tower, barely in her twenties, was cheerful about getting the assignment.
She hummed a tune while they walked toward the tower.
Seeing Camilla's gloomy expression, the girl tried to cheer her up. "Don't be upset. Think about it. This job is one that many would envy.
I'm guessing Philip gave it to you because you're from Orianto. He probably thought it'd be easier for you, and now you're not appreciating it. It's not surprising that he would be upset."
Camilla found the girl annoying and didn't respond, her face cold.
The girl, being optimistic, continued. "As long as we do a good job, a raise is a sure thing. Plus, I've heard that the Mendoza family is really nice."
"Nice?" Camilla scoffed.
"Yeah, aren't they?" the girl asked, confused.
Camilla thought to herself that they \weren't nice to her.
Her parents had caused the Mendoza family a great deal of harm and nearly killed Adeline, but the Mendoza family had given her a second chance, letting her live in peace.
However, she couldn't bring herself to be grateful for that.
All she could focus on was how the Mendoza family had refused to help her.
She should have been living a life of luxury here, but instead, she was working as a maid, cleaning, and constantly facing illness and death threats.
Her mindset was shifting, and she even felt the Mendoza family owed her something.
So, she was determined to get revenge.
The girl didn't realize Camilla's change in attitude and kept talking.
"And I heard that Miss Mendoza is super beautiful and nice. I wanted to work with her, but I didn't get the chance. Well, at least I'm stuck with this easy job."
The mention of Adeline made Camilla even angrier. She couldn't hold back anymore.
“Enough! Shut your mouth!"
The girl was startled, nearly dropping the things she was holding.
"What's with the attitude?" the girl said, feeling wronged. "I just wanted to talk to you. If you don't want to talk, just tell me. No need to snap at me."
She walked away, irritated, and went into the
Westfall Tower to do her work.
Camilla's face was dark with anger.
She couldn't stand hearing people praise Adeline.
And now, this girl had gone right to her sensitive spot.
She walked into the Westfall Tower, seeing the girl already working.
Camilla had no mood to work herself. But since she had just scolded the girl, if she dared slack off, the girl would definitely report her to Philip.
Reluctantly, she started cleaning.
Philip had already told Gracie about what had happened.
"Something like that happened?" Gracie was surprised. "How can she not be happy about getting to work in the Westfall Tower... What's up with that girl?"
"I don't know either," Philip said. "I think she's strange. It was my mistake to hire her."
"It's fine," Gracie waved her hand. "Just bring her to see me."
"Understood."
Philip was about to leave to find Camilla when Gracie suddenly received a phone call.
There was something urgent she had to handle.
"Forget it. Don't bother finding her. I'm going out," Gracie said as she stood up. "In the meantime, just have the others train her."
"Yes, Mrs. Mendoza."
Gracie needed some business to deal with and asked someone to arrange a driver.
However, the usual driver didn't show up today, and his phone was unreachable:
"Mrs. Mendoza, would you like a different driver arranged?"
Gracie, feeling the urgency of the situation, said, "Never mind. I'll drive myself."
She got in the driver's seat and drove off.
