Chapter 587: She Would Only Hate Others
Those were the eyes of Jasmine Hunter.
After going abroad with Rogelio Hunter, Jasmine Hunter, despite his objections, insisted on coming to Yewhaina.
Because she knew Adeline Hensley was here.
If she really thought about it, she didn't hate Adeline Hensley that much.
Who she truly hated were Harrison Thomson and Russell Hunter, the ones who had backed her into a corner.
And Adeline Hensley was the woman they both loved most.
So naturally, she focused on her.
Just imagine, if something happened to Adeline Hensley, both Harrison Thomson and Russell Hunter would be utterly devastated, wouldn't they?
Lost in this fantasy, a smile of grim satisfaction curled Jasmine Hunter's lips.
The man accompanying her was one of Rogelio Hunter's subordinates,
Rogelio Hunter was unwilling to come to Yewhaina with her, but he was still worried, so he sent a trusted aide along.
This trusted aide, Warren Chiang, was currently holding her medical reports.
Jasmine Hunter had been feeling unwell since arriving in Yewhaina, so she came to the hospital for a check-up today.
"Madam, there's nothing seriously wrong with you. It's just a mild case of travel sickness," Warren Chiang said to her.
Noticing she seemed distracted, he raised his voice slightly, "Madam?"
Jasmine Hunter snapped out of her reverie.
She flicked her hair and asked, "What did you say just now? My body's fine, right?"
"Nothing serious," Warren Chiang said.
"You'll be fine after resting for a few days back at your accommodation."
"Hmm."
Hesitating, Warren Chiang added, "Madam,
perhaps we should return to Mr. Hunter. Staying in Yewhaina is too unsafe."
"Go back? Go back and hide with him in that godforsaken place?" Jasmine Hunter sneered.
"Rogelio Hunter is a waste! Pushed to this point by his own son, and he doesn't think about fighting back, only about hiding!"
"Madam, you shouldn't speak about Mr. Hunter that way."
Jasmine Hunter let out an icy laugh.
She turned to look at Warren Chiang, suddenly raising an eyebrow. "And what if I do? Are you going to tell him? Warren, all these years... what you feel for me, did you think I didn't know?"
Warren Chiang froze, then fell silent.
He had been with Rogelio Hunter for many years, so he had known Jasmine Hunter for just as long.
Even before Russell Hunter's birth mother had died, he had liked Jasmine Hunter, even entertaining thoughts of pursuing her.
Back then, he was already Rogelio Hunter's
trusted aide, with a certain status, and he believed he was worthy of Jasmine Hunter.
But before he could act, he discovered the relationship between Rogelio Hunter and Jasmine Hunter...
He was so shocked it took him a long time to recover.
Although he knew their secret, he was utterly loyal to Rogelio Hunter and also liked Jasmine Hunter, so he could never reveal it.
He just silently gave up on the idea of pursuing Jasmine Hunter.
Later, Russell Hunter's birth mother passed away.
Rogelio Hunter married Jasmine Hunter.
He could only bury his feelings for Jasmine Hunter deeper in his heart.
He had kept them hidden all these years.
In earlier years, Rogelio Hunter, seeing he was still alone, had tried to set him up with women, but he always refused. Rogelio Hunter found it strange but never pressed the matter.
Rogelio Hunter never imagined he was in love with Jasmine Hunter.
But Jasmine Hunter had noticed.
However, she never told Rogelio Hunter.
"Say something," Jasmine Hunter poked his shoulder. "Warren, I realized you liked me a long time ago. And I... l've always had a bit of a soft spot for you too. But by the time I knew how you felt, I was already married to Rogelio Hunter. There was nothing to be done."
Warren Chiang said, "I understand. And I would never betray Mr. Hunter."
"Oh, so loyal to him, are you?" Jasmine Hunter scoffed. "In the past, he was the lofty Chairman Hunter, so it made sense for you to serve him. But now? What is he? Forced out of the country by his own son, too scared to even come to Yewhaina..."
Warren Chiang's face stiffened. "No
matter Mr. Hunter's status, I will remain loyal to him."
"And what about me?" Jasmine Hunter asked.
"You are Mr. Hunter's wife, so naturally I..."
Before Warren Chiang could finish, Jasmine Hunter suddenly grabbed his hand.
He was startled and tried to pull back, but she tightened her grip.
"You can stop thinking of me as Rogelio Hunter's wife right now," she said, her thumb lightly stroking the back of his hand. "Let me ask you, are you willing to pledge your loyalty to Jasmine Hunter, the person?"
Warren Chiang's Adam's apple bobbed twice.
Then, he nodded.
Jasmine Hunter smiled slightly. "Good."
She turned her head.
Naturally, Adeline Hensley was long out of sight by now.
After a moment's thought, she said to Warren Chiang, "Go find out why Adeline Hensley is at this hospital. Is she sick, or did something happen to someone close to her? Don't be too obvious, don't let anyone discover who you are. I'll wait for you in the car."
"Are you sure? Ms. Wen-" Warren Chiang started to advise against it.
But before he could finish, anger flashed in Jasmine Hunter's eyes.
He had no choice but to stop.
"What more do I have to fear, being where I am now?" Jasmine Hunter said venomously.
"I've lost everything... money, status, and.." She looked down at her abdomen.
She had lost forever the chance to be a mother!
If only, during that pregnancy, she hadn't tried to frame Russell Hunter...
But she would never blame herself for her mistakes.
She would only hate others.
Hate Russell Hunter, hate Harrison Thomson, hate Adeline Hensley!
Tears welled up in Jasmine Hunter's eyes.
She looked at Warren Chiang pitifully. "You said you were willing to be loyal to me. Won't you even help me with this small thing now? Even if we fail in the end... at least we can die together!"
Looking into her red-rimmed eyes, Warren Chiang finally nodded.
Meanwhile, Adeline Hensley was in Isaac Mendoza's hospital room.
Harrison Thomson was also there.
Isaac Mendoza was awake. His injuries were severe, and even after many days, he still couldn't get out of bed.
However, every time he saw Adeline Hensley safe and sound, he felt deeply relieved.
At least his daughter hadn't been hurt, and they had managed to rescue his wife safely.
He felt that as long as his family was safe and sound, even his severe injuries were worth it.
He looked at Harrison Thomson, who was pouring a glass of water for him.
Isaac Mendoza had fully accepted him now.
In truth, Isaac Mendoza knew himself that his previous bias against Harrison Thomson had been somewhat unreasonable.
After going through so much, Isaac Mendoza saw things clearly now.
Harrison Thomson could stand by Adeline Hensley in times of wealth and comfort, and also through hardship and danger.
He felt completely at ease entrusting Adeline Hensley to Harrison Thomson.
Harrison Thomson brought over a glass of warm water. Adeline Hensley took it and patiently fed it to Isaac Mendoza using a straw.
After he finished drinking, Isaac Mendoza asked her, "When do you two plan to return to Orianto?"
"We'll have to wait until you and my brother are discharged from the hospital," Adeline Hensley said, putting the cup down and gently tucking in his blanket. "I won't feel reassured until I see both of you fully recovered with my own eyes."
