One night stand with my president(chapter 595)

Chapter 595:  Blaming You Is Pointless

Adeline Hensley reasoned that before the paternity results were confirmed, Monica had likely been wary of all of them. She feared the Mendoza family wouldn't believe her and might harm the child.

But now the paternity results were out.

The Mendoza family knew this was Alberto

Mendoza's child.

Monica probably felt  that, no matter what, the Mendozas would protect their own bloodline.

That's why she now dared to entrust the child to them.

Gracie Mendoza held the child, her heart a whirlwind of conflicting emotions.

There was joy and excitement, but also worry and guilt.

The confirmation that she was now a

grandmother sparked irrepressible happiness and excitement within her.

But thinking of Connie Miller, she couldn't indulge in that feeling wholeheartedly.

Alberto and Connie's wedding had been on the horizon.

And now this happened.

Alberto suddenly had a child.

Expecting Connie to simply accept all this and stay by Alberto's side would be far too selfish.

But letting Connie go would undoubtedly devastate Alberto...

A throbbing pain pulsed at Gracie's temples.

However, her immediate concern was the child's illness. A life was at stake, and such a young one at that.

Now that Monica was willing to let her take the child, she could finally have the hospital doctors perform a thorough examination.

Monica initially wanted to follow.

But glancing at Alberto Mendoza, she hesitated, stopped, and watched with reluctant eyes as Gracie carried the child away.

Adeline Hensley observed this and said calmly, "Go with them if you want. You're the child's mother. It's perfectly normal for you to be present during his examination."

. She had said the same thing to Monica before, assuring her she could stay during the check-up, but Monica, distrustful, had clung tightly to the child.

It was only after the paternity results came out that she was willing to let go.

Monica gave an awkward laugh and said, "It's alright, I don't need to go. Madam is Pharrell's grandmother; she would never harm him. If I insisted on following, it would seem like I don't trust her."

Adeline smiled. "Suit yourself. But you're right, my mom would never hurt the child.

He's her grandson; she'll only dote on him excessively."

Monica nodded, her gaze shifting back to Alberto Mendoza.

Alberto didn't so much as glance her way; his entire attention was fixed on Connie Miller.

His internal conflict and struggle were evident.

Although he had repeatedly begged Connie not to leave him...

If she truly insisted on going, would he stop her? No, he wouldn't.

Because he truly loved Connie.

He couldn't bear to let her go, but he also couldn't bear to make her endure this pain.

Connie remained silent, but Monica walked over to the two of them and spoke first.

"Miss Miller, please don't blame Alberto," Monica said, her eyes reddening. "What happened that night was an accident, and he didn't even know it happened. I was the one who decided to have the child on my own. If you must blame someone, blame me."

A wave of irritation washed over Alberto. He didn't want Monica speaking to Connie, but remembering she was the child's mother and that he was ultimately responsible, he refrained from harsh words.

So he just said to Monica, "You should go rest."

Monica shook her head. "I feel too uneasy. Miss Miller, ..."

"Blaming you is pointless," Connie finally spoke.

"As a woman myself, I don't want to make things difficult for you, especially since you're a mother who clearly loves her child."

Monica continued, "I won't come between you and Alberto. I know you truly love each other, and I'm not worthy of him anyway.

But... I really can't bear to be separated from my child. This child belongs with the Mendoza family. When the time comes, even if I have to work as a servant in the Mendoza household, I'd be content just being able to see my child every day."

"Could you please stop saying these things?"

Alberto's brow furrowed, a hint of anger flashing in his eyes.

Wasn't Monica's words just twisting the knife in Connie's heart?

Moreover, Connie had never once given her a hard time, yet Monica persistently played the nitiful virtim in front of her pitiful victim in front of her.

Alberto was really finding it hard to stomach.

"Alberto..."

Monica's eyes welled up with fresh tears.

Adeline Hensley stepped forward. "Let me take you to rest now."

"But I, I still..."

"Whatever you want to say can wait," Adeline said. "Isn't the most important thing right now Pharrell's illness? Or have you stopped caring about your child?"

"No!" Monica said quickly. "I'd do anything for Pharrell to get better."

Hadn't she done all this...

All for her child?

Just then, Harrison Thomson arrived.

His gaze swept over the scene.

Monica immediately flinched, trembling slightly.

"Then I... I should go be with Pharrell," she said timidly.

She didn't really know Harrison Thomson's specific status, only that he was probably Adeline Hensley's boyfriend.

But she was inherently afraid of him.

Probably because of his innate, intimidating presence.

Just one look from him was enough to make

Monica's blood run cold.

Adeline had someone escort Monica to where Gracie Mendoza and Pharrell were.

After Monica left, Connie said to Alberto, "You're still injured. You should go back to your room and rest."

"What about you?" Alberto asked.

Connie gave a bitter smile. "I'm very tired, Alberto. I want to go home for a while. I've been at the hospital for so many days; I'm exhausted." •

Alberto's lips moved, but he couldn't bring himself to ask her to stay.

He knew her exhaustion wasn't from staying at the hospital; it was from this sudden, overwhelming situation.

What right did he have to insist she stay, to not let her go?

He owed her some space, time to think things through properly.

"Alright," Alberto released her hand. "Go home and rest."

"I'll go with you," Adeline said.

Connie nodded, not refusing.

At a time like this, she really did need a friend by her side.

Even though this friend was also Alberto's sister, Connie believed that in this matter, Adeline wouldn't blindly take Alberto's side and simply urge her to endure it all.

After exchanging a look with Harrison Thomson, Adeline left with Connie.

Harrison Thomson stayed behind to keep an eye on Alberto, lest he do something rash in his despair.

Alberto watched Connie's retreating figure and murmured, "Connie... if you truly decide to leave me, I won't force you to stay. No matter what, I only want you to be happy..."
