Chapter 552: Unable to Escape Her
"Honey, what happened?" Jasmine asked, her voice full of urgency.
Rogelio couldn't stand her persistent nagging any longer, so he sighed and said, "The Thomson Group's involved in illegal activities. Harrison's been taken for questioning."
"Really?" Jasmine's face lit up with excitement.
"Serves him right," she grinned. "To think that arrogant Harrison is finally getting his comeuppance."
She couldn't help herself. "Why don't we stay in Orianto a few more days? I can't wait to see Harrison's downfall."
"Are you crazy?" Rogelio looked at her like she was out of her mind. "You just got out of detention, and now you want to stay here? Do you want Russell to catch wind of this and have you arrested again?"
His mention of Russell sent Jasmine into a fit of anger.
"How pathetic are you?" she snapped.
"You're his father, but you're scared of him? He tells you to leave, and you do it. He orders you around, and you obey. You're so spineless, people will laugh at you behind your back."
Rogelio felt a pang of shame, but he didn't say anything.
"Russell's already out of my control," Rogelio sighed with a bitter laugh. "He's more capable than I ever was... If I were younger, going up against him, I'd probably be even more helpless.”
He paused, then added, "He's just like his mother."
As soon as the words left his mouth, he regretted them.
Jasmine immediately exploded. "What do you mean by that?" Her eyes were sharp and filled with fury. "You're saying his mother was strong, and now that he's like her, he's strong too, right? Are you saying I can't compare to her?"
"I didn't mean that..." Rogelio began to defend himself, but Jasmine cut him off with a chilling smile.
"If that's the case," she said coldly, "then why did you choose me in the first place? Why did you sneak around behind her back to be with me?"
"Stop it!" Rogelio snapped.
He noticed that the driver had been sneaking glances at them in the rearview mirror.
This driver wasn't one of his trusted men.
Russell had gotten rid of all his loyal people, and this one was just a temporary hire.
Such things were better left unsaid.
Even though they would never cross paths with this driver again after they left the country, he still didn't want anyone to hear about it.
"You started it," Jasmine hissed. "So you think I'm not good enough, huh? Rogelio, you heartless bastard. How could you do this to me?"
With that, she launched herself at him, slapping and hitting him in a frenzy.
Rogelio quickly grabbed her wrists, holding her in place.
"Stop it,' he said, trying to calm her down.
Luckily, Jasmine was weak from her time in detention.
She panted, her anger spent, and suddenly burst into tears, her sobs turning into laughter.
"How pathetic," she laughed bitterly. "Ever since I was little, everyone said she was the stronger one, that I could never compare to her. I've been living in her shadow. And even now, after all these years, I still can't escape it."
Rogelio felt a knot in his stomach, frustrated by the situation.
But seeing her on the verge of losing control, he softened his tone to calm her down.
"I didn't mean it that way,' he said, trying to soothe her. "In my heart, you're a thousand times better than her. You know how much I've loved you all these years, don't you?”
Despite his words, Jasmine remained silent, staring blankly out the window, lost in thought.
Rogelio, frustrated, turned his attention back to the view outside, leaving her to brood.
After a long silence, Jasmine spoke again.
"Harrison's been caught, but what about Adeline? She's his top secretary. Doesn't this involve her?"
Rogelio thought for a moment before shaking his head. "I haven't heard anything about her. She's not in Orianto, and it doesn't seem like she's involved in this mess."
"Too bad." Jasmine clicked her tongue.
"Would've been fun to watch her fall along with Harrison."
"Don't need to worry about her," Rogelio said impatiently. "Just take care of yourself for now. Even if the Thomson family falls apart, Adeline will be fine. She's from the Mendoza family. There's no way they'd let anything happen to her.".
Jasmine raised an eyebrow. "Where are we going?"
"We'll start in Mugroaton and then figure out where to go from there," Rogelio said tiredly.
He honestly felt like he couldn't keep going much longer. He just wanted to find a place to settle down and escape the chaos.
And, deep down, he knew he couldn't face Russell anymore.
Jasmine's mention of their past was enough to stir his fears.
If Russell ever found out, Rogelio didn't know how to handle it.
For now, at least, there was still a small flicker of fatherly affection between them.
But if Russell ever found out the truth, that would be the end.
What he didn't know was that Jasmine didn't see things the same way at all.
She was far from satisfied.
She had always believed that Rogelio could deal with Russell.
That's why she put on so many acts before.
But now, Rogelio had done nothing but back down, unable to handle Russell.
Now, the Snider family was ruined, and so was she.
Jasmine looked down at her stomach, a wave of bitterness sweeping over her.
She would never be able to have children again.
She had sacrificed so much, and for what?
Nothing. She couldn't accept it.
But she would never share these thoughts with Rogelio.
After all, whatever she wanted to do, he would always stop her.
The future was long. As long as she was still alive, she was going to settle the score with Russell, Harrison, and Adeline.
Isaac and Alberto weren't amateurs. In a very short time, they had destroyed several of the organization's strongholds and captured several key members.
But these members kept their mouths shut.
No matter how they were questioned, no one could give up the boss's whereabouts or Gracie's location.
In fact, two of them had even committed suicide when they thought no one was looking.
Despite all this, their actions had still dealt a heavy blow to the organization.
When Krauss, covered in blood, staggered out of the basement, Joel and Catherine were waiting for him outside.
Seeing him stumble, Catherine rushed to help him and shot Joel an accusing look.
"Didn't you see what happened to Krauss? Why aren't you helping him?" Catherine scolded. "If it weren't for you, the boss wouldn't have punished him."
Joel grunted, turning his back on them, refusing to acknowledge the situation.
"I told you. I can handle it. He helped me, so now it's my turn," Krauss said.
"You..." Catherine wanted to say more, but
Krauss stopped her.
"Enough, don't say anything more," he whispered weakly.
"Krauss, something big has happened," Catherine said anxiously.
