One night stand with my president(chapter 549)

Chapter 549: They're Waiting for You

Edward's heart soared.

He hadn't expected it. He hadn't even opened his mouth yet, and Lorenzo had already brought it up.

The joy made him blind to any signs of something being off.

"If it's him, then that should work," Edward said.

"Though he doesn't know much about the company, at least he grew up in the Thomson family. And he and his son have always been straightforward. I don't think there'll be any mistakes."

Lorenzo smiled faintly.

Unfortunately, Edward was too caught up in the thrill of potentially seizing power to notice the deeper meaning behind Lorenzo's smile.

"You can leave now," Lorenzo said, closing his eyes and leaning back in his chair. "I'm a bit tired and need to rest for a while."

Edward thought this was Lorenzo's approval.

Pleased, he said, "Okay, Dad, you rest. I'll wait for your instructions."

What he didn't know was that, after he turned to leave, Lorenzo opened his eyes and watched his retreating figure.

In his eyes was a deep sense of disappointment.

As Edward stepped out of Lorenzo's study, he was practically beaming with joy.

The servants who saw him couldn't help but feel confused.

"How strange... with such a huge mess going on, why does he still seem so happy? What did Mr. Lorenzo really say to him?"

"Could it be that Mr. Harrison isn't in trouble at all, and that's why he looks so pleased?"

The servants pondered this, and it seemed the only explanation that made sense.

Otherwise, they couldn't imagine why Edward would be so happy under the circumstances.

Soon, Edward left the Thomson family.

There was no car waiting for him at the gate.

After walking for a good while, he finally climbed into a car parked at the side of the road.

Inside the car were Frankie and Marshall.

"Why did you park so far away?" Edward complained.

"We didn't want to be seen," Frankie replied tersely.

Then, unable to wait any longer, he asked, "So? What did Lorenzo say?"

"Lorenzo agreed," Edward said, his voice brimming with pride. "Soon, he'll hand over the company to me. Lorenzo also said he'd have you assist me."

"You're serious?" Frankie's heart swelled with the satisfaction of years of plotting finally paying off.

"Of course," Edward grinned.

But Marshall wasn't as thrilled as the other two.

"Lorenzo agreed that easily?" Marshall frowned.

"Something doesn't sit right with me."

He turned to Frankie. "Dad, don't you remember that night when lorenzo suddenlv called me to that night when Lorenzo suddenly called me to play chess with him? He might already know what we've been up to. Even if he doesn't know about Edward's involvement, how could he just casually ask you to assist him?"

A flicker of doubt crept into Frankie's mind.

Edward laughed. "You're overthinking it.

Right now, Harrison's been taken away. As for the other younger members of the Thomson family, most of them are lazy and useless, whether they're here or abroad. Who can we really count on? Ashton's wife already caused trouble, and Lorenzo can't possibly trust him. Sure, Lorenzo has a few loyal men, but none of them carry Thomson's bloodline. Who's more reliable than us?"

"Now that Harrison's been taken, Lorenzo is obviously panicked," Frankie said. "The company can't afford to be without leadership, so maybe Lorenzo's just grasping at straws."

However, Marshall felt that while their words seemed reasonable at first, something about them didn't sit right when he thought about it more carefully.

Moreover, their plan had gone too smoothly this time.

He hadn't expected Harrison to be taken so directly.

Edward and Frankie likely sensed this too.

But they'd wanted this day for so long that they were using their excitement to numb themselves.

"Stop overthinking it," Frankie said. "We still have a backup plan." He paused. "By the way, have you followed up with Yewhaina?"

The last part was directed at Edward.

"I called them before I came over," Edward said helplessly. "They still haven't captured Adeline, but they did manage to get her mother."

"That's something," Marshall said.

"Adeline's mother is Harrison's mother-in-law. If Harrison ignores her safety, Adeline will have a problem with that."

The three of them laughed, but the atmosphere in the car was far from cheerful.

Deep down, they all harbored fears they weren't willing to admit.

The Mendoza family still hadn't found Gracie.

However, after many years in Yewhaina, they weren't completely helpless. While they hadn't located the organization's headquarters, Isaac and Alberto had managed to get in touch with a few key members.

But when they tried calling, the members hung up as soon as they heard who was on the other end.

When Adeline heard about this, she immediately understood.

They were waiting for her.

It made her seethe with anger.

But now, there wasn't much she could do.

After all, Gracie was still in their hands.

Adeline had to make sure Gracie was safe first.

The rest of the Mendoza family understood this.

They definitely wouldn't let Adeline risk her life.

But making a phone call? That was something they could allow.

So when Adeline asked for the contact information, Alberto handed her the phone number of one of the members.

Adeline dialed the number.

On the other end, a gruff male voice soon answered.

"Hello."

Adeline spoke calmly, "This is Adeline."

There was a brief pause on the other end.

Then the voice replied, "Hold on."

It sounded like he was walking somewhere.

Adeline didn't rush and waited patiently.

In situations like this, she couldn't afford to be impulsive.

Soon, a young man's voice came through the phone.

"Hello, Miss Hensley."

Adeline froze for a moment.

The young man wasn't speaking in the Yewhaina dialect, but in fluent Orianto language.

But she quickly regained her composure.

She asked, "Is that the leader of the organization?"

The man on the other end chuckled softly.

"Yes, it is," he replied. "What do you want to discuss, Miss Hensley?"

Adeline's lips tightened.

The way he addressed her as "Miss

Hensley" instead of "Miss Mendoza" meant that he was likely well aware of her history in Orianto.

"What do you think?" she asked coldly.

"Where is my mother?"
