Chapter 584: You Are No Longer Needed Here
Finally, they spotted "Adeline Hensley" in one of the cars.
By this time, the car was already on its way to the airport.
Upon receiving the news, Joel Baxter grew impatient and eager to set off.
But as soon as he reached the door, he saw Killer.
Killer looked calm, casually adjusting his cuff.
"You're going too?" Joel asked, startled and displeased.
Hearing this, Killer gave him a cold look.
"Joel, don't overstep."
Joel turned his head away irritably.
He knew perfectly well that if Killer took action personally, he would have no chance to kill Adeline Hensley directly.
Killer wanted her alive.
But if he didn't take this opportunity to eliminate Adeline Hensley now, once Killer
brought her back, she would be heavily guarded.
By then, he would have even less of a chance.
His face dark, Joel secretly resolved.
Later, no matter the cost.
He must kill Adeline Hensley!
Since Joel stopped his noisy protests, Killer said nothing more.
However, at that moment, Catherine Dillard suddenly approached.
She had been pushing through her injuries, handling various matters, and now looked particularly frail.
For some reason, she felt a deep sense of foreboding.
Summoning her courage, she grabbed Killer's arm.
"Boss, there's no need for you to go personally," Catherine said, a plea in her eyes. "Let Joel take men and go."
Killer felt annoyed.
First Joel, now another talkative one?
"Let go."
Catherine's lips moved, but she ultimately remained silent and released his arm.
"Boss... you must come back safely."
Killer said indifferently, "You should go home and recuperate from your injuries. You are no longer needed here."
With that, he left without looking back.
Catherine watched his retreating figure, tears gradually blurring her vision.
He still wanted her to leave.
It seemed he truly didn't want her by his side anymore.
But, it didn't matter now.
Things had reached this point; she only hoped he would be safe.
The organization members were all chasing the car with "Adeline Hensley," completely unaware that the real Adeline Hensley was still inside the Mendoza estate.
The earlier scene-the four gates opening simultaneously with multiple cars leaving from each-was all just to confuse the organization.
Witnessing that would make them believe
Adeline had truly left the estate.
If it weren't to protect Adeline, to prevent them from identifying which car she was in, why would the Mendoza family go to such elaborate lengths
Meanwhile, Adeline Hensley was sitting at a desk.
Trying to calm her mind, she held a book, reading.
But she soon realized that, at a time like this, her heart truly couldn't be calm.
She was worried about Sonia Blackburn, and also worried about... Harrison Thomson.
To avoid raising the organization's suspicions, Harrison Thomson had gone out with Sonia Blackburn.
After all, Sonia was disguised as Adeline Hensley.
If Adeline were to leave the estate, how could Harrison Thomson possibly not accompany her?
Although they said they had made all possible preparations...
But in this world, what is ever absolutely certain?
Moreover, she knew that organization wasn't easy to deal with, especially Killer.
Suddenly, someone knocked twice on the study door.
The door was open. Adeline turned to see Gracie Mendoza standing there, holding a glass of milk.
"Mom."
Gracie Mendoza smiled, walked over, placed the milk in front of her, and sat down beside her.
"I knew you wouldn't be settled," Gracie said.
"Drink some milk."
Adeline nodded, picked up the glass, and took a few sips.
The milk was warm.
Drinking it seemed to genuinely soothe her restless anxiety a little.
Gracie patted the back of her hand and said, "I remember when we were reclaiming control of the Mendoza family all those years ago, we also went through moments just as perilous."
As she spoke, her gaze grew distant, as if lost in memory.
"Of course, it was different from this situation, but the level of danger was similar," Gracie said.
"Back then, your father was also afraid I'd be in danger, so he forbade me from joining him in the action."
At this point, she gave a bitter smile.
"Actually, at the time, I felt it would be better if I went with him. At least, no matter what happened, I could face it and shoulder it together with him."
These words resonated deeply with Adeline.
To be honest, at this moment, she really felt it would be better if she were by Harrison Thomson's side.
"But think about it, they truly don't want us to take the risk with them," Gracie said. "It's not that they don't trust us, or think we'd be a hindrance. It's precisely because they care so much that they don't want us to bear even the slightest risk."
Adeline nodded silently.
"And what we need to do now is trust them," Gracie said, tightening her grip on Adeline's hand. "Trust that they can overcome any situation, and in the end, will definitely return safely to us."
Adeline's eyes reddened slightly, and an image of Harrison Thomson before he left surfaced in her mind.
He had gently patted her head and said with a warm smile, "Wait for me to come back."
He said he would come back.
So he definitely would.
Even so, worrying about a loved one is instinctive.
Because of this, Adeline couldn't sleep the entire night.
The sky was already bright when Joyce Monroe knocked on her door, asking if she wanted breakfast.
Adeline felt a tightness in her chest and couldn't eat anything.
Joyce understood how Adeline was feeling and didn't insist.
Just as Adeline was picking up her phone for what felt like the umpteenth time...
It suddenly vibrated.
An incoming call.
And the caller ID showed it was from Harrison Thomson.
Adeline's heart pounded violently as she quickly answered.
"Harrison Thomson! Are you okay? What about Sonia Blackburn?"
Harrison Thomson's voice on the other end sounded slightly tired.
"I'm fine, Adeline, don't worry," he said. "I'm perfectly alright. Sonia Blackburn sustained minor injuries, nothing serious. Our plan... was a success."
Even though he said this, Adeline still couldn't completely let her guard down. She remembered how Alberto Mendoza had been injured before but lied to Connie Miller saying he was fine.
She was afraid Harrison Thomson might be like Alberto Mendoza, hiding the truth to keep her from worrying.
"Really?" she asked urgently. "Harrison Thomson, we agreed before, if something happened, you wouldn't hide it from me."
Harrison Thomson chuckled softly. He knew what she was thinking. "I'm really fine. I'll be back soon, I'm just calling you first to let you know I'm safe. And Sonia Blackburn, her injuries are very minor, she doesn't even need to go to the minor, she doesn't even need to go to the hospital. Memphis Shannon has already bandaged her up.
She'll come back with me shortly."
Hearing this, Adeline finally felt relieved.
"Did you capture Killer?"
