Chapter 578: Bewitched by Beauty
Marshall let out a bitter laugh. "Looks like you really care about her, don't you?"
At this point, he had no reason to hide the truth anymore, so he confessed. "I did let her go on purpose. I thought once she escaped, she'd find a way to deal with Harrison. But I didn't know she'd be so useless. I gave her the chance to escape, and she still couldn't manage to get away."
The truth was, he never really expected Milania to be Harrison's match.
He just wanted her to cause some trouble for him, but she couldn't even manage that.
All his efforts had been in vain.
And now, he started to realize that Harrison had probably started suspecting him the moment Milania escaped.
In hindsight, this move had been a complete failure.
"I get it," Ashton said calmly. "You should focus on your recovery."
Ashton stood up, ready to leave.
"Is that it?" Marshall asked, confusion in his eyes.
"I just needed to clarify everything related to her," Ashton replied flatly. "After all, she was someone I loved and lived with for years."
Ashton wasn't sure what the point of asking was, but he had to get answers.
Marshall sneered, "Well, the Thomson family really does know how to love. You and Harrison, both of you. It's a shame. Edward, that useless fool, can't do anything right..."
If only he could've found someone to capture Adeline, Harrison wouldn't be so bold now.
Ashton didn't respond, turning to leave.
Marshall coughed roughly, his chest tightening.
His illness, which had been under control for a while, seemed to be returning with a vengeance.
If he had been taken care of properly, there wouldn't have been an issue.
But now, he had suffered a severe blow, ended up in custody, and even threatened to take his own life...
He knew his own body best. He could feel it.
His illness seemed to be creeping back, ready to strike again.
If he had been able to get through this unscathed, he would have continued to live in luxury, relying on Lorenzo's connections to secure the best treatments.
He could already feel the death creeping in.
The following morning, after breakfast, Harrison led Adeline to meet a woman with short hair, just as Joyce stood nearby.
When Joyce saw the woman, she couldn't help but exclaim, "You two look strangely similar."
Adeline blinked in confusion. "Really?"
She hadn't noticed the resemblance herself, but since Joyce pointed it out, maybe there was some truth to it.
The woman was tall and athletic, her arms
muscular. She looked like someone with combat training.
"Who is she?" Adeline asked.
"She's one of Memphis's people," Harrison replied. "Her name's Sonia Blackburn."
Adeline nodded.
The moment she saw Sonia and noticed their slight resemblance, she realized what was happening.
Their body types were almost identical.
"She'll be staying with you from now on,"
Harrison said. "She'll need to imitate your habits to help us draw out Killer."
Adeline hesitated. "But... isn't this dangerous for her?"
Sonia, sensing Adeline's concern, smiled reassuringly. "I'm well-trained and have years of experience. I can handle any danger that comes my way. And..."
She paused, her eyes softening. "Mr. Thomson saved me and my fiancé once. If it weren't for him, we would have died back then. So, this mission is my way of repaying him."
"Don't worry," Harrison added, holding Adeline's hand. "We'll ensure Sonia's safety."
Now, Killer's target was Adeline.
The only way to draw him out was to make sure he saw her.
But there was no way Harrison would use
Adeline as bait.
He couldn't bear it, and while Adeline was smart, her skills were no match for a professional mercenary.
As soon as he arrived in Yewhaina, Sonia reached out to him.
Memphis's men knew the organization was watching Adeline, and Sonia was no exception.
Sonia suggested the plan.
Harrison thought it could work, though it was risky, so he'd spent the last couple of days calculating the chances of success.
After considering all angles, they realized the plan had a high chance of working.
So, Harrison gave his consent.
Over the past few days, Harrison had been making preparations.
They would do everything possible to ensure
Sonia's safety.
"Miss Hensley, I hope you'll give me the chance to repay my debt," Sonia said calmly.
"If I don't do this now, I'll never have peace."
At her words, Adeline's eyes softened. She took Sonia's hand and said, "Thank you. Really, thank you."
Sonia smiled faintly.
"No need to thank me," she replied. "If my fiancé knew what I was doing, he'd be proud of me."
From then on, Sonia was by Adeline's side at all times.
Adeline didn't have to teach her
anything; she just went about her usual routine, and Sonia followed her lead, picking up on her
Meanwhile, Harrison had arranged for a famous makeup artist to come.
The artist was known for his uncanny ability to create disguises.
Adeline and Sonia already looked a little alike.
With the makeup artist's skills, they'd be nearly indistinguishable if one didn't look closely.
That night, Adeline would sleep with Sonia.
As for Harrison, he'd have to sleep in another room.
But this was for a good cause, so Harrison had no complaints.
Later that evening, as Adeline and Sonia chatted before bed, Adeline learned that Sonia's fiancé had gone missing six months ago during a mission.
Sonia showed her a photo of him-an incredibly strong and handsome man.
"After Mr. Thomson saved us, I really thought
we'd be together forever," Sonia said. "But life had other plans. After he went missing, both the boss and I searched everywhere for him, but we never found a trace."
Adeline's heart ached as she listened.
"But I believe he's still out there," Sonia said firmly. "As long as I haven't seen his... body, I believe he's still alive."
