Chapter 477: Make Some Moves
Ever since meeting with Russell, Tessa had been eagerly anticipating the upcoming fashion show.
She had already coordinated with the organizers, and she would be walking the runway that day.
While the outfit she was assigned to wear was the least significant, she was still thrilled just to be attending such an important show.
What made Tessa even happier was the chance to be seen by Harrison.
Russell had promised to find a way to keep Adeline away from the show so that Harrison could attend alone.
This would give her a little less competition.
The key was that Russell didn't want her to interfere with Adeline.
Russell was her only ally in this, and if he didn't want her to do something, she couldn't dare to go against him.
So, keeping Adeline away was the best plan.
However, what she didn't expect was that Jasmine would find her.
Her family was distantly related to Russell's mother, so Tessa and Jasmine were technically relatives. According to the family tree, Jasmine should be her aunt.
Tessa hadn't expected Jasmine to look so frail now.
After marrying into the Hunter family, they had barely kept in touch. But from Tessa's memories, Jasmine had always been elegant, well-maintained, and dignified.
The last time she saw Jasmine was about two years ago, but now, Jasmine looked like she had aged ten years.
"Jasmine, you're looking for me? What's the matter?"
"Tessa, it's been years, hasn't it?" Jasmine smiled.
"You've become more beautiful over the years."
Tessa knew Jasmine was just being polite, but it still made her happy.
"You look stunning too, so youthful," Tessa lied smoothly.
Jasmine looked down at her coffee, saying, "No need to flatter me. I know very well what state I'm in."
Russell had kicked her out of the Hunter family, canceled all her cards, and wouldn't let her take anything from the family.
She had to rely on old friends for help, but even they, fearing Russell, could only lend her some money.
Compared to her past life, things had become unbearable.
Tessa awkwardly smiled.
She had once thought about attaching herself to Jasmine, but her family had warned her against getting involved with the Hunter family or the Snider family, afraid of being dragged into something dangerous.
So, she had abandoned that idea.
She never imagined Jasmine would end up like this.
Honestly, Tessa did feel a bit of schadenfreude.
But she certainly wouldn't show it.
Who knew what the future held? Who could guarantee Jasmine wouldn't return to the Juarez family?
"Let's get to the point. Tessa, I heard you met with Russell a few days ago?"
"Uh..." Tessa hesitated. "Yes, we met once."
"I heard he asked you to meet him," Jasmine asked softly. "What did he tell you?"
Jasmine didn't know that Tessa had reached out to Russell on her own.
She assumed Russell had asked her to do something.
Tessa felt uncomfortable.
The situation wasn't something she could proudly admit, so she didn't know how to explain it.
"Nothing much, just a small matter," she awkwardly replied.
Jasmine smiled and grabbed Tessa's hand.
"Tessa, we're family. You wouldn't hide anything from your Aunt Jasmine, would you? Russell may be your cousin, but now he's not exactly loyal to family. Don't you trust me more than him?"
"It's not that," Tessa quickly said. "It's just... I went to ask Russell for help with something personal. Please don't ask me about it."
"What personal matter do you need Russell's help with?" Jasmine asked, her gaze fixed on her.
"Tessa, don't forget, I'm still Mrs. Hunter, and I haven't divorced Rogelio yet. If you don't listen to me, when I return to the Hunter family... You know what the consequences will be."
Jasmine's anger was rising, and she let her words turn sharp.
She thought, "How dare Tessa brush me off after everything I have gone through?"
Tessa immediately grew fearful.
Jasmine had a point. If she ever returned to the Hunter family, she would easily be able to make Tessa's life miserable.
"Alright, let me tell you the truth," Tessa
said. "I actually asked Russell to help me get an invitation to this fashion show. It's one I've always wanted to attend, but the entrance requirements are just too high, and I've never been able to make it... so.."
"Don't try to fool me," Jasmine interrupted coldly.
"You've been a model long enough to know how things work. If you wanted Russell's help, you would have asked him long ago. But now, you think he'll just do you a favor because you ask?"
Tessa's heart skipped a beat.
She'd planned on lying to Jasmine.
But she never expected Jasmine to see right through her.
She had no choice but to tell the truth.
Even if she could come up with the perfect lie to fool Jasmine now, there was no way she could avoid the consequences if Jasmine found out later.
"I... I've fallen for someone," Tessa whispered.
"That's why I asked Russell to help me, to give me a chance to get close to
him."
"Who is he?" Jasmine pressed.
"It's... Mr. Thomson," Tessa admitted.
"Oh?" Jasmine's mind raced as she calculated. "I didn't expect this from you. Your ambitions are higher than I thought."
Tessa coughed awkwardly. "Well, I'm not aiming to marry into the Thomson family. If I could even have a little fling with Mr. Thomson, I'd be satisfied."
Jasmine didn't care about that.
She was more focused on the tangled relationships at play.
Adeline was Harrison's girlfriend now. And Russell liked Adeline...
The connections between these people, all tied together, gave her an idea.
Maybe she could use this to her advantage.
Tessa cautiously watched her. "What are you thinking?"
Jasmine snapped back to reality.
"Oh, nothing," she said, a smile playing on her lips. "It's not a bad thing that you like Mr.
Thomson. But I heard he has a girlfriend. So, what's your plan? With Adeline around, how are you going to get close to him?"
"Russell said he could help me get Adeline out of the way," Tessa replied.
A spark of excitement flashed in Jasmine's eyes.
"Is that so? Well, Russell really is looking out for you..."
Later, when Harrison was having dinner with Adeline at a private dining restaurant owned by an acquaintance, the atmosphere was relaxed.
The restaurant only served ten tables a night, and the dishes were meticulously prepared, even the plating was an art.
Adeline had been having trouble with her appetite recently, so Harrison had brought her here, hoping the food would suit her tastes.
It seemed to work. She ate more than usual.
Just then, Harrison's phone rang.
He answered the call, listened for a moment, and then replied with a brief nod before hanging up.
"What happened?" Adeline asked, noticing his change in expression. "You look troubled."
