Chapter 480: Reluctance to Let Go
The day Adeline left for Aurgville, Harrison took her to the airport.
He had originally planned to send her on his private jet, but Adeline thought it was unnecessary, since the trip was so short.
So, she booked a regular flight instead.
Harrison escorted her all the way to the VIP security checkpoint.
"Stay safe," he said, running his hand through her hair. "If anything happens, don't hesitate to let me know."
"I know," Adeline teased, rolling her eyes.
"You've said many times already.
Harrison smiled helplessly.
He couldn't help it. She had been kidnapped before.
Naturally, he was overly concerned now.
For this trip to Aurgville, he'd sent several bodyguards to follow her discreetly for her protection.
"Go on," Harrison said, watching her walk through the gate.
Adeline squeezed his hand and turned to leave, but just a few steps later, she felt a sudden pang in her heart.
They hadn't fully parted yet, yet she was already starting to miss him.
She spun around and ran back to him, throwing herself into his arms for a tight hug.
Without a word, she pulled away and rushed off again.
Harrison stood there, watching her silhouette disappear into the security area.
Her warmth still lingered in his arms.
He felt a bit lost, a little helpless.
He never imagined he would be so reluctant to leave a woman.
It was just a few days, and yet he was already thinking about her.
"Mr. Thomson." Rowen appeared behind him, "Your car is waiting outside."
Harrison didn't respond at first; his gaze was still fixed on the security checkpoint.
Rowen, confused, glanced over at the checkpoint.
"Wasn't Miss Hensley already inside? Why is Mr. Thomson still staring there?" Rowen thought.
His curiosity piqued, but he didn't dare ask.
After all, Harrison's personal matters were beyond his reach.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Harrison turned and left.
Rowen quickly followed, but still couldn't resist glancing back at the security area.
He still didn't get it and thought, "Is Mr. Thomson actually reluctant to say goodbye to Miss Hensley?"
He had noticed long ago that Harrison's feelings for Adeline were far from ordinary.
But he never imagined Harrison would behave like this during a relationship.
Adeline's flight to Aurgville was a little over an hour.
When she got off the plane and entered the airport, she immediately spotted a young man waving enthusiastically at her.
"Hello, you must be Miss Hensley," the young man said eagerly. "My name is Alvaro Gilmore, my mom sent me to pick you up."
Adeline instantly understood.
This must be Elissa's son.
"We used to see each other when we were little. Do you remember?"
Alvaro pulled out his phone and showed her an old photo.
In the picture were four people.
Adeline immediately recognized her mother and herself from when she was a child.
There was also a mother and son in the photo.
The young man in front of her resembled the little boy from the picture, just grown up.
"You still have this photo?"
Seeing her mother in the picture softened
Adeline's expression.
Alvaro looked stunned.
He was mesmerized by how much Adeline still resembled her younger self.
It took him a moment to snap out of it.
"Yes," he said, "my mom showed me the photo the other day. She was so happy to hear that you were coming. She's been wanting to contact you for years, but never dared to. Finally, when she got sick, she couldn't hold back anymore."
"How is Elissa's health?" Adeline asked with concern.
"She's still very weak; she can't even get out of bed, and she has no strength at all," Alvaro replied, his expression heavy. "Come on, let's go. She's waiting for you at home."
Adeline hesitated for a moment before asking, "Why isn't she in the hospital?"
"The doctor said that hospitalization wouldn't do much. It's better for her to recover at home in a familiar environment. It will lift her spirits."
Adeline nodded slightly.
The two of them headed to the parking lot.
Just as Alvaro was about to guide her to his car, two burly men approached.
"What do you want?" Alvaro jumped back in surprise.
The men ignored him and addressed Adeline respectfully. "Miss Hensley, we are here to drive you to your destination."
Adeline recognized them immediately.
They were Harrison's bodyguards.
It was clear that Harrison wasn't comfortable with her getting into a stranger's car.
"Alright," she replied, "please have your car lead the way, and we'll follow."
Alvaro, seeing that Adeline knew these men, relaxed.
However, he couldn't shake the feeling of disappointment.
He had hoped to be alone with Adeline, to connect and maybe spark something.
The moment he spotted her at the airport, he recognized her instantly.
She still looked the same as she did when she was young, beautiful, and striking.
And yet, there were these two men now, always by her side, giving him no chance.
Her life seemed to be going quite well now.
He had heard them call her "Miss Hensley."
Alvaro didn't keep up with the news, so he didn't know the details of her life.
But from how she carried herself, it was obvious she was doing well.
He thought, "If only I could somehow be with her..."
He started driving, and Adeline followed in the bodyguards' car.
They soon arrived at a residential area.
After getting out of the car, the two bodyguards stayed with Adeline, still following her closely.
They even followed her into the elevator.
The small space of the elevator made things awkward, and Alvaro could feel the pressure.
Sweating slightly, he turned to Adeline and asked, "Why are they still following you?"
Adeline smiled apologetically, but didn't explain.
If she told him it was because of her past kidnapping experience, it might seem like she didn't trust him.
But it wasn't that. She and Harrison just had heightened vigilance after everything that had happened.
Better safe than sorry.
