Chapter 473: Even Easier to Handle
On their way to the apartment, Frankie continued chatting with Edward, seemingly unaware of Edward's disinterest.
He kept going on about how devoted Marshall was to him, and the more he spoke, the more uncomfortable Edward felt.
Edward thought, "Why was someone else's son so filial, while my own treated me like a stranger? Sure, I have made mistakes, but I'm back now. Why can't Harrison treat me friendly? If only I had a son like Marshall... No. Never mind. I don't want a sickly child like that anyway."
He really envied Marshall's devotion to Frankie.
But Edward knew he couldn't express it. His current situation, being ousted from the Thomson family, meant he couldn't afford to clash with them any further. So, he endured Frankie's endless chatter, though his patience was running thin.
Finally, the car stopped at the apartment building, and Edward was eager to get out.
But Frankie stopped him.
"Edward, now that you're not living with the Thomson family, Marshall and I don't have many chances to talk. How about we grab a meal together sometime? Just catch up, what do you think?"
Edward almost refused, but something made him reconsider, and he nodded reluctantly. "Alright, you set the time and place."
"Great! I'll have Marshall pick you up," Frankie said, sounding pleased.
Edward got out of the car, and Frankie drove off.
As Edward walked upstairs, he couldn't help but think that despite Frankie and Marshall's low status within the Thomson family, they had been there for years.
He had been away for over a decade, yet they had never left.
Frankie was being overly accommodating, perhaps there was something he could use in this situation.
He hadn't figured out what, but getting close to them wouldn't hurt.
Meanwhile, Frankie, in the car, received a call from Marshall.
"Dad, did you meet him?" Marshall asked.
"I did," Frankie chuckled coldly. "He's got no shame, coming after Myra."
"It's no surprise what he does. Dad, did he notice anything strange about you?"
"No," Frankie replied. "I've been driving a wedge between him and Harrison, and he hasn't noticed. In fact, he's been following my lead. I'm sure that he's pretty upset with his son."
"Harrison doesn't really have any fault in this," Marshall said coolly.
As an observer, he could see things clearly, but Edward couldn't.
Edward, being the selfish person he was, had long forgotten his past mistakes and was now fixated on Harrison not supporting him.
"Do you still plan to go easy on Harrison?"
"Of course not," Marshall laughed. "Dad, we've been patient for years. What's it all for? It's all about getting what we want. And Harrison? He's just a roadblock in our path."
"That's good. I was afraid you'd forgotten our purpose," Frankie said. "Edward's agreed to eat with us. You should contact the restaurant. Remember, book the most expensive one. The more expensive, the better."
"Don't worry. I know," Marshall responded.
Dining at a fancy restaurant would only remind Edward of the luxurious life he once had with the Thomson family.
Once he got that strong desire back, it would be even easier to manipulate him.
Adeline, Georgia, and Rowen were in Harrison's office at the moment.
Harrison sat comfortably in his large chair, listening to Georgia and Rowen report.
"Kyson's sister, Tia Campbell, hasn't had any exit or entry records in the past year, and there are no records of her whereabouts in Orianto," Georgia said. "The person who sent her away was very discreet; it's likely she was smuggled."
If it were smuggling, that would make things more complicated.
"We've checked the phone number Kyson used to contact, and the account he received money from, but the other party has covered their tracks well. We still can't find out who's behind this," Georgia continued.
Harrison lightly tapped his index finger on the desk..
"Looks like this wasn't a job done overnight."
"What about Frankie and Marshall? Have they been up to anything recently?" Harrison asked.
"We've had people watching them these past few days. There hasn't been much activity, but just now, we received some news," Rowen said.
"Frankie went to Myra's place and then... well, he met with Mr. Edward."
Rowen hesitated, unsure of how to address Edward, as he knew about Edward's situation.
As one of Harrison's closer subordinates, Rowen knew all about Edward's fall from grace but kept a respectful tone.
"He went to bother my mother again," Harrison said coldly. "Send some people to
monitor her place. If they see him, just kick him out."
"Understood."
"Did you hear what Frankie said to him?"
"We couldn't get too close, so we couldn't hear clearly, but after Edward got in Frankie's car, Frankie drove him to his current place," Rowen explained.
Hearing this, Adeline furrowed her brows, thinking, "Was Frankie planning something with Edward again? What were they up to?"
"There's one more thing," Rowen said.
"Benjamin's private jet just took off from Mugroaton. Its destination is here."
The mention of Benjamin made Adeline shudder involuntarily.
Benjamin was coming to Orianto again.
Was he planning to look for Adeline?
Just the thought of him made Adeline
tremble in disgust.
"Benjamin's been having a rough time lately. If he's coming to Orianto now, maybe he's thinking about going all in," Georgia said flatly.
Despite the Tillman family's power in Mugroaton, it couldn't withstand the combined pressure from the Thomson, Mendoza, and Hunter families.
Seeing his failures piling up, Benjamin was desperate.
So, the Thomson and Mendoza families had set a trap for him.
Blinded by greed, Benjamin walked right into it, but now he had violated Mugroaton's laws.
It seemed like he would soon face an investigation by Mugroaton's police.
He certainly wasn't having an easy time.
And now, he was coming here...
Georgia's guess was very plausible.
"Keep an eye on him," Harrison said. "Once he lands, watch him closely. Don't let him show up in front of Adeline."
Just as he finished speaking, Adeline's phone rang.
The ringtone made Adeline's scalp tingle.
She had a bad feeling.
She just knew it had to be Benjamin calling.
Harrison, noticing the same, immediately stood up, walked over to Adeline, and took her phone.
Seeing the unfamiliar incoming call, his eyes darkened. He quickly answered the phone.
