Chapter 499: Trouble at the Movies
By the time their plane landed, it was already late at night.
Luckily, Adeline had napped enough during the day to feel wide awake, awake enough to drag Harrison off to catch a midnight movie.
It was a big-budget film from a famous director, but since it had already been out for a few days, there weren't many people at the late show.
When they entered, a few men were sitting in the third row, and there was a couple in the fifth.
Adeline's and Harrison's seats were in the seventh row.
As they made their way to their seats, they had to walk right past the group of men in the third row.
Adeline caught a strong whiff of alcohol.
The men seemed stunned when they saw her, eyes lighting up instantly.
One of them was already making moves to strike up a conversation.
But before he could take a step, Harrison
stepped in front of Adeline, blocking her from their view.
With just one look, his powerful presence was enough to make those men shrink back in fear.
Harrison was already physically imposing, and with his energy, most people didn't dare challenge him.
So, though they had the guts to stare, none of them had the nerve to actually make a move.
All they could do was sit back down and behave.
After Adeline and Harrison settled in, Harrison's face was stony.
"We shouldn't have come here," he muttered.
Renting out the whole theater, booking a private screening room, even buying out the cinema-none of that would've been difficult for them.
But Adeline, acting on a whim, had simply bought tickets online and dragged
Harrison out to catch a movie like any other couple.
"It's fine." Adeline squeezed his hand with a
smile. "Let's just enjoy the movie and ignore them."
Besides, judging by the look in those men's eyes, they were too intimidated by Harrison to try anything now.
The film started.
Right away, it delivered an explosive action scene, classic blockbuster style.
For the first few minutes, the men in front stayed relatively quiet.
But before long, they started cheering, clapping, and even jumping up from their seats.
Harrison's expression grew darker and darker.
Adeline was getting annoyed, too.
They were about to text someone to step in when the couple in the fifth row couldn't take it anymore.
"Could you guys please keep it down?"
The boyfriend was the first to speak-soft-spoken, glasses-wearing, and polite.
The moment he spoke, all the men in the third row stood up and swaggered over.
The girl started shaking, terrified.
The boy looked scared, too, but he stood up to shield her.
"What... what do you want? I just asked you to be a little quieter. This is a movie theater."
By then, the men had reached them.
"Hey, kid," one man sneered, clapping the boy on the shoulder, "you think you're tough or something?"
"No, I'm not...”
"You complaining about us? We're just hyping up the movie. Don't you get it? If you don't, then keep your mouth shut."
Their words were pure nonsense, but the boy didn't dare talk back, especially with his girlfriend there.
"Alright, I'm sorry, it's my fault, he mumbled, head down.
At that moment, a loud part of the movie drowned him out, and the few men didn't hear him. "What was that?"
The young man repeated his apology, a little louder.
He thought apologizing would be enough to make them leave, but instead, the men just grinned at him, menacing and unkind.
"Sorry's not enough, kid. We were having a good night, and you ruined it. Now, what do you think we should do?"
The boy looked lost, uncertain. That was when one of the men leaned forward, eyeing the trembling girl behind him.
"You know, your girlfriend's pretty cute."
The boyfriend went pale.
"Tell you what," the man smirked, "let her hang out with us tonight to make up for ruining our good mood. How about that?"
That was it.
Even though the boy had apologized,
the second he heard that, he
snapped.
"You must be dreaming," he spat, furious.
"Get lost!"
"You got a death wish, kid?"
But before the men could finish, the theater lights blazed on, flooding the room with white light.
The movie froze on screen.
Everyone in the theater jumped in shock.
"What the hell?"
"Who turned the lights on?"
Within seconds, several burly men strode into the room, heading straight for the troublemakers.
Before the rowdy men even knew what was happening, they were pinned to the ground.
"Who the hell are you?"
"Let us go! Do you know who we are?"
"You guys have a lot of nerve!"
The couple was startled too, but quickly realized muscle-bound newcomers weren't here to hurt them.
The girl was the first to recover, tugging on her boyfriend's sleeve and glancing toward Adeline and Harrison.
Both Adeline and Harrison sat calmly, unfazed.
Harrison was still glancing at his phone, totally unconcerned.
It was obvious these security guys were their people.
The sudden lights and movie interruption had all been arranged by a single message.
The troublemakers' mouths were covered as they were marched out, and the theater manager rushed in with a few staff, sweating bullets, heading straight to Harrison and Adeline.
"Mr. Thomson, Miss Hensley, we're so sorry. We never expected something like this to happen..."
"Next time, don't let just anyone in here,"
Harrison replied coldly.
The whole mood for the movie had been ruined.
The manager looked terrified, barely able to breathe.
Who could've guessed those idiots would try to cause trouble with Harrison and Adeline here?
Adeline was annoyed, but seeing the manager and staff so nervous, she softened a little. "Just remember to beef up your security in the future. For now, you can go. We'll finish the movie."
"Of course, thank you, Miss Hensley. Thank you, Mr. Thomson!"
The manager let out a long sigh of relief and hurried out with his team.
The lights dimmed, the movie resumed, and this time, without any interruptions, Adeline was able to lose herself in the story.
By the end, she almost wished the movie would go on a bit longer.
When the lights finally came up, the couple made their way over to Harrison and Adeline to thank them.
"Thank you so much," the girl said, nearly in tears.
When those men threatened her, she'd been truly terrified.
She knew her boyfriend would do his best to protect her, but against those guys, what could he have done?
If it hadn't been for Adeline and Harrison, they would definitely have been injured.
