Chapter 513: They Already Have a Kid?
Alondra wasn't stupid. She knew Harrison was actually looking out for her.
She picked up her fork and moved a fried egg into her bowl, feeling a lot less nervous.
Honestly, Harrison was just a little cold on the surface. He was actually really nice.
No wonder Adeline wanted to be with him.
Alondra hadn't really understood what "being together" meant. She'd just overheard the housekeepers whispering about it, something about Miss Hensley and Mr. Thomson being a perfect match.
After breakfast, Harrison and Adeline had to head out.
He had business to take care of, and she needed to be at the office to welcome the new hires in the executive suite.
There were two newcomers starting today, and as the chief secretary, it was only right for her to go meet them.
Adeline didn't feel great about leaving Alondra home alone, but she also worried she'd be bored at the office, so she picked up her phone and called Joyce to come over and keep Alondra company.
These days, Joyce was pretty much just chilling at home with nothing to do.
In fact, last night she and Sam had been up way too late, so when Adeline's call came through, Joyce was still in a total daze. Even after the call ended, it took her a minute to process. "Wait, Adeline wanted me to go to Shurford Residence? Why am I supposed to go over there again? Is it... to babysit? No, that couldn't be. Whose kid would that be?"
She nudged Sam, still half asleep, and muttered, "Adeline and Harrison already have a kid?"
"What?"
The second Sam heard that, he was wide awake, bolting upright in bed.
"Miss Hensley's pregnant? Since when?"
"I don't know," Joyce said, still confused.
"She just said to come over now."
They both realized at the same time. If Adeline really was pregnant, that was explosive.
They scrambled out of bed, got ready in a rush, skipped breakfast, and hurried straight to Shurford Residence.
As soon as the doorbell rang, Adeline went to open it.
Standing outside were Sam and Joyce.
Joyce marched in and immediately reached out to touch Adeline's stomach.
"How many months along are you??"
Adeline stared at her, completely baffled.
"What?"
"Aren't you and Harrison having a baby?" Joyce asked.
Adeline nearly burst out laughing. "What? I said I needed you to come help watch a kid."
"Huh?" Joyce blinked in confusion. "Whose kid?"
Right then, both Joyce and Sam caught sight of Alondra, sitting quietly on the living room sofa, looking shy and uncertain.
In an instant, they both figured it out.
Sam was practically family with Harrison, so of course he knew about Edward's whole situation.
Joyce knew the backstory, too.
The moment they saw Alondra, it all clicked.
This was Harrison's little half-sister.
Sam shot Joyce a helpless look. "Seriously?"
Joyce cringed, "Guess I heard wrong."
"You really missed the mark on that one."
"Come on, I was barely awake..."
Adeline laughed, "Harrison's busy. I have to go to the office, and I don't want to leave Alondra alone. So I want you guys to come keep her company today."
She'd really only meant to ask Joyce, but since Sam was here too, she figured why not.
It was not like he was busy.
Plus, seeing the two of them so close made
Adeline genuinely happy.
"No problem," Joyce said with a wave. "Just go do your thing. We'll take great care of Alondra!"
Joyce flashed Alondra a big smile as she walked over to say hi.
Alondra was a little nervous meeting strangers at first, but remembering what Adeline said about Joyce being super nice, she slowly relaxed.
Adeline headed to work, while Sam made himself comfortable on the couch and played video games with Alondra.
At first, she was still shy, but after a few rounds, she started to warm up, laughing louder and louder.
Joyce, meanwhile, was half-watching a movie, half-watching those two, thinking, "Wow, Sam's actually great with kids. If we ever have one, he'll be a fantastic dad."
Since Adeline had to wait for Joyce to arrive before leaving, she got to the office a little later than usual.
By the time she reached the executive suite, the two new hires were already there.
Anna was chatting with them.
As soon as Anna spotted Adeline, she waved.
"Good morning, Miss Hensley!"
The two newcomers-a guy and a lady, both freshly graduated from top universities and full of youthful energy-turned at the greeting.
They'd both met Adeline during interviews, and honestly, they'd heard her name long before that.
They quickly chimed in, "Good morning, Miss Hensley!"
Adeline smiled and nodded. "Morning."
Anna had already covered most of the basics, so Adeline gave a few words of advice, then had the lady shadow one of the experienced staff, and told Triston to stick with Anna.
Both newbies looked a little disappointed when they found out they wouldn't be working directly with Adeline.
After all, she was the chief secretary.
Working with her would be a goldmine of experience.
But then again, chief secretaries rarely had time to personally mentor the new hires.
So, they both buckled down and went off with their assigned mentors.
Harrison didn't come in until the afternoon.
Adeline brought the two new hires to his office for a quick introduction.
After all, it would be odd if the CEO didn't at least meet the new members of his own team.
Harrison said very little. He just nodded after Adeline's introductions and sent them on their way.
Adeline was about to leave too, but then she heard Harrison's perfectly serious voice.
"Miss Hensley, stay for a moment."
His tone was so businesslike. Adeline thought it must be for something work-related. But the second the others left and the door closed, he stood up, walked straight over, and reached out for a hug.
Adeline sighed, "I thought you wanted to talk about something serious."
"A hug with you isn't serious?" Harrison replied, utterly shameless.
"Give me a break." Adeline rolled her eyes. "I'm busy, you know."
She turned to go, but Harrison grabbed her from behind.
"What do you think about moving your desk into my office?"
Adeline almost laughed out loud. "Keep dreaming."
"I think it's a great idea," Harrison insisted.
"That way, every time I look up, I'll see you right there."
It was true. They already spent almost every minute together at work, but for Harrison, it still wasn't enough.
If he could, he'd keep her at his side every second, never apart.
Adeline shook her head. "Moving my desk in here is out of the question, but..."
"But what?"
"I think it's time we made things official. Let's announce to everyone that we're together."
