Chapter 475: Awaiting the Outcome
At Russell's words, Tessa's heart began to race.
She thought, "He wouldn't ask me to do something difficult, would he?"
"Miss Hensley, Harrison's companion," Russell said coldly, "Don't lay a finger on her."
Tessa froze. "Adeline?"
So, that was what Russell was asking of her.
It made sense-Adeline was Harrison's girlfriend now.
If Tessa wanted to win Harrison's affection, she might have to hurt Adeline in the process.
Russell was clearly worried about that, which was why he warned her so firmly.
She'd heard the rumors: Russell had someone he truly cared about. So it's Adeline after all.
Tessa's realization hit her like a wave. "No wonder Russell was so willing to help me."
If she could truly win Harrison over, Adeline would be single. That would give Russell a chance.
"In a way, I'm actually helping Russell," Tessa thought.
"Russell, I understand," she said with a smile.
"Don't worry, I would never harm someone so precious to you."
Russell gave her a cold, lingering glance, and Tessa quickly closed her mouth.
After a moment of silence, she cautiously asked, "So... how do you plan to help me?"
Russell grabbed something from the side and tossed it to her.
Tessa caught it and looked down at the item in her hands.
It was a model's invitation to a high-profile fashion show.
"This show?" she gasped. "The standards are sky-high. I'm not even qualified for something like this."
But to her surprise, her name was printed on the invitation.
Tessa's heart surged with excitement.
As expected of Russell. In such a short time, he had effortlessly secured her an invitation.
"I've already taken care of things with the organizers," Russell said. "From what I know, Harrison also got an invitation, though he's attending as a guest. The rest is up to you."
"You can count on me," Tessa said, her excitement almost bubbling over.
Russell gave her a cold, scrutinizing look.
Tessa quickly corrected herself, "Not that... I mean, thank you for your help."
After a pause, she added with a flattering smile, "I imagine Mr. Thomson will attend with Miss Hensley, right? If she's there, it might be difficult for me to perform."
Russell lit a cigarette, the red tip glowing but doing little to illuminate the darkness in his eyes.
"I'll make sure everything's arranged for you," he said in his usual detached manner.
"Thank you," Tessa responded.
She could tell Russell wasn't in the mood for
further conversation, so she stood up, said her goodbyes, and left.
Once outside the bar, she eagerly ran her fingers over the invitation in her hand.
She'd once thought there was no way she'd ever meet Harrison.
Now, not only would she have the chance to interact with him, but she'd be attending one of the most famous shows.
Who knew? This could be the start of her rise in the modeling world.
Tessa was elated, but back in the room, Russell showed no signs of joy.
He leaned back against the sofa, smoking his cigarette.
He'd helped Tessa, sure, but deep down, he couldn't decide if he truly wanted her to succeed.
If Tessa succeeded in winning Harrison's heart, wouldn't that mean he betrayed Adeline?
If that happened, Russell might have had a chance, but the thought didn't bring him any
satisfaction.
What he really wanted was for Adeline to find happiness.
And the one who could bring her that happiness would have to be the one she loved most.
Russell's lips curled into a resigned smile.
"Harrison, let's see if you can pass this test."
Of course, Russell knew that no one had ever caught Harrison's eye before, not even Kaylie or Eleanor.
A mere Tessa wouldn't be enough to sway him.
But things were different now.
Back then, Harrison hadn't yet won Adeline's heart.
He had always prioritized her.
But now he had her, and they'd been together for some time.
Would Harrison, perhaps, be growing tired of her? Russell would wait and see.
Benjamin had already arrived in Orianto.
But he didn't take his private jet. He flew on a commercial flight.
Although he had someone tamper with the passenger list, Harrison's people still found out.
They had been waiting at the airport, but Benjamin had prepared for this.
He'd arranged for several of his men to help him slip away unnoticed.
He even used innocent bystanders as leverage, almost causing a commotion.
In the end, he successfully escaped in a car.
But Harrison had already pinpointed a certain area.
He knew Benjamin was hiding nearby, and finding him was just a matter of time.
After Benjamin arrived, Pedro showed up as well.
He still held a grudge against Benjamin and was determined to get revenge.
But he didn't dare disturb Harrison and Adeline.
Instead, he silently prepared for his own plan.
Another evening came.
Edward took a taxi to the address Frankie had sent him.
It was a high-end restaurant with an extravagant but somewhat tacky decor. The more gaudy it appeared, the more it caught Edward's attention.
Frankie and Marshall were waiting for him at the entrance.
"Edward, you made it," Frankie greeted him with a smile, his eyes twinkling as he watched the taxi leave.
"Edward, why did you take a taxi?" Marshall asked, concerned in his voice. "You should have let us know. We could've picked you up."
Edward felt a little awkward but maintained his composure.
"It's nothing. I just happened to see a taxi on my way out, so I hopped in."
"It's inconvenient without a car," Frankie said.
"Don't worry. I'll have one sent to you tomorrow. It'll be mine. Lorenzo and Harrison won't know."
Edward's expression darkened.
Frankie, a mere adopted son of the Thomson family, could casually offer him a car.
Yet, Edward, born into the Thomson family, was in such a position.
Now he had to stoop this low.
Frankie assured him it wouldn't be known to Lorenzo and Harrison, and Edward couldn't help but feel insulted.
He really wanted to refuse, but the lack of a car was a hassle.
He reluctantly accepted.
"Let's go inside, Edward. The private room is ready," Frankie said.
Inside the private room, Frankie immediately had the servers bring out dish after dish of expensive food.
He even had a bottle of wine worth hundreds of thousands opened.
Though he was just an adopted son, Frankie had been part of the Thomson family for years. This kind of money was nothing to him.
But it was enough to make Edward envious.
