Chapter 534: Want Some Ice Water
After all the commotion, Adeline wasn't as tired anymore.
She took a shower and returned to her room, lying on the bed to text Harrison, rambling on about everything that happened that day.
She especially focused on mentioning Ronan.
Adeline knew that even if Harrison didn't say it, he still cared about Ronan.
It was early morning in Orianto, and she thought Harrison would probably still be asleep, so it would take a while for him to see her messages.
To her surprise, as soon as she sent them, Harrison replied.
And he responded to every single message she sent.
Adeline was happy, but also slightly worried.
"How come you're awake so early?" she asked.
"Did something happen?"
"No," Harrison replied. "I just miss you so much that I couldn't sleep."
A smile tugged at Adeline's lips as she said, "All sweet talk."
"It's true. Don't you miss me?" Harrison responded.
Adeline's heart stirred with mixed emotions.
How could she not miss him? The moment she boarded the plane, she had already begun thinking about him.
The next moment, Harrison video-called her.
Adeline turned on the bedside lamp and answered the call.
On the screen, Harrison was sitting at his desk.
Wearing gold-rimmed glasses, he was signing a document, his hands looking so elegant.
Suddenly, Adeline's thoughts drifted to those hands, imagining what they might do when they were in bed together. Her face flushed.
As soon as Harrison finished signing the document and looked up, he caught sight of her blushing.
He raised an eyebrow, his voice teasing.
"What's on your mind? You're blushing."
Adeline quickly covered her face, trying to deflect. "I'm not blushing. It's just the lighting. You must be seeing things."
Harrison chuckled softly, knowing she was lying but not pressing the issue.
His gaze softened as he looked at her through the video.
She was half-reclined against the bed, wearing a white, low-cut nightgown.
He knew all too well what lay beneath that nightgown.
Just thinking about it aroused him.
"Wait a second."
After telling Adeline, he got up, and when he returned, he was holding a glass of water.
Looking closely, Adeline noticed there were some ice cubes in it.
Adeline frowned and said, "Why are you drinking ice water so early? It's bad for your stomach."
"It's fine," Harrison said, "I just felt like having some."
"No." Adeline was firm. "If you drink ice water, I'll be mad and won't talk to you anymore."
"Adeline," Harrison sighed, "Just let me have one drink, okay?"
Adeline hesitated for a moment.
There was something off about his voice.
It sounded slightly hoarse, with a hint of seduction.
She was all too familiar with this voice.
Whenever he was emotionally stirred, it would sound just like this.
Adeline shot him a glare and muttered, "What are you always thinking about?"
"I can't help it," Harrison said. "I saw you, and that comes to my mind."
"Then you can have just a tiny sip," she said.
"A tiny sip might not be enough."
Harrison tipped his head back and drank the entire glass of ice water in one go.
As he drank, his throat worked, and Adeline couldn't help but watch.
Suddenly, she felt hot and parched.
At that moment, she realized what he had been feeling.
She also wanted a glass of ice water...
Harrison finished the glass of water, and only then did he seem to feel a little better.
"Alright, you should probably go to work now, right? I'm going to sleep," Adeline said.
She feared that if she kept talking to him, she'd end up running back to Orianto right
now.
"Alright," Harrison said.
Adeline hesitated for a moment, stealing a few more glances at him before hanging up the call.
Though she had just told Harrison she was going to sleep, she tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep at all.
Her mind was full of images of him sitting at his desk, signing documents.
Slowly, it turned into thoughts of him without clothes...
Finally, Adeline couldn't take it anymore. She sat up, grabbed the room's phone, and asked the servant to bring her a glass of ice water.
After finishing the video call with Adeline, Harrison headed to work.
The driver parked the car in the Thomson Group parking lot, and not far away, another car was parked under a tree.
The man sitting in the driver's seat coldly watched as Harrison's car entered the parking lot.
He waited until the car was completely out of sight before pulling out a cigarette, lighting it.
If he hadn't left the Thomson family back then, he would be the one running the Thomson Group now.
As he smoked, Edward's mind wandered, thinking about what his life would have been like if he had stayed with the Thomson family all those years ago.
Lorenzo had always favored him, and just before he left, he was already holding an important position at the company.
In a few years, Lorenzo would've probably handed over the company to him.
But Harrison, as good as he was, is still just his son.
He wouldn't hand over the company to Harrison just yet.
Now, Harrison would probably still just a manager, maybe even managing just a branch.
But now, Harrison was sitting in the position that should have been his.
It was laughable. Edward was fighting for the position against his own son.
But he had no choice.
Harrison had watched Lorenzo kick him out of the Thomson family and didn't even care.
Edward didn't think he had any fatherly affection left.
He should've never run away with Britney.
Honestly, Edward couldn't remember why he would do that.
All he remembered was the crazy yearning for freedom, and how he met what he thought was true love.
Admittedly, the past decade had been good for him.
But since returning to Orianto, he thought money and power were within his grasp, yet he still couldn't get it.
He wasn't content. He wanted what he thought was his, and he was willing to do anything for it.
For that, he didn't hesitate to bury the woman who had been with him for over a decade.
Even though that woman had given him a daughter, he had no regrets.
Back then, Edward had done anything for freedom.
Now, he would do anything for money and power.
Edward murmured, "Harrison, don't blame me. You'll only spend a few years in prison. You're still young. Even if you go to jail for a few years, it won't matter."
As he unknowingly flicked another cigarette from the pack, his phone rang.
"Where are you? I've been waiting for you for a while," the man on the other end asked.
Edward snuffed out the cigarette in the car's ashtray. "I'm on my way."
He hung up the phone and started the car, driving away.
Edward's car stopped in front of a coffee shop.
As he walked into the private room, the table was already filled with snacks.
Sitting at the table was Frankie.
