Chapter 502: Do You Have a Death Wish?
Adeline had really worn herself out. She was fast asleep in Harrison's arms.
As they got into the elevator, she mumbled something in her sleep and shifted a little.
Harrison thought she was waking up, but she just snuggled deeper into his chest, settling into a more comfortable position, and kept on sleeping.
He couldn't help but smile, lowering his head to look at her soft lips. He really wanted to kiss her hard, but he was afraid he'd wake her, so he held back.
Still... what had she just said? He hadn't caught it.
When they stepped out of the elevator, Adeline started talking in her sleep again.
This time, he heard her clearly.
"Alberto, don't hit Harrison... Harrison was speechless.
He thought, "What kind of dream is she having? Am I really getting beat up by Alberto?"
There was only one reason Alberto would ever hit him, which was he must've done
something to hurt Adeline.
So, in her dream, he'd let her down.
Harrison thought, "What's that crazy stuff?"
Back in the bedroom, he gently laid her down on the bed, brushed her hair off her face, and pressed a soft kiss to her cheek.
Just then, his phone screen lit up.
He glanced at it, then picked it up and quietly left the room, closing the door behind him.
He poured himself a glass of whiskey, walked over to the window, and made a call.
"Talk."
"Mr. Thomson, they've started making moves."
Harrison's hand tightened around the glass.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, but they're being very careful. No one else has noticed yet."
"Are you sure he's involved?"
There was a pause on the other end, and then the voice replied cautiously, "Yes."
Harrison let out a cold laugh.
The person on the phone fell silent, barely daring to breathe.
After a long moment, Harrison finally said, "Good work."
Then he hung up.
Harrison downed his drink in one shot, and for a moment, something almost like sadness flashed in his eyes.
He could see some things coming a mile away, but when they really happened, it still stung.
Adeline was finally woken up around noon by her phone vibrating nonstop.
She was still half-asleep when she felt someone next to her reach for her phone on the nightstand.
"Who is it?" Adeline mumbled sleepily.
"Don't worry. Go back to sleep," Harrison soothed her.
After checking the caller ID, Harrison answered the call with a frown, snapping, "Daphne, do you have a death wish?"
"Huh? Oh come on, are you two still in bed at this hour?" Daphne's cheerful voice chirped through the phone. "Get up already! The sun's halfway up the sky!"
"If it's nothing important, I'm hanging up,"
Harrison said coldly.
"Wait, wait, don't hang up! I need something." Daphne hurried on, "You're with Adeline, right? Hey, remember I wanted her to be my model? I've been thinking about it nonstop. Harrison, for the sake of all these years we ve known each other, help me out, please! Ask her to be my model, will you?"
"Handle your own business," Harrison said flatly.
"And don't call to wake her up again. She's still sleeping."
With that, he hung up, ignoring Daphne's wail on the other end.
But Adeline was already awake, yawning as she burrowed into his arms.
"Was that Daphne?"
"Yeah."
With Adeline in his arms, Harrison's mood instantly improved. He passed along Daphne's message.
"Right... I did say l'd model for her sometime if I had a free day."
Harrison said, "If you don't want to, just say no. You don't owe her anything."
Adeline laughed. "I really don't mind. I've just never done anything like that. But if it's just for Daphne's private shoot, not anything professional, then why not? Could be fun to try something new."
"You really don't mind?" Harrison double-checked.
"Really. Trust me, l'd never force myself."
She grabbed the phone from him and texted Daphne to set a time.
"Looks like l'm free this afternoon. Let's just do it today."
She'd made up her mind, so Harrison didn't push.
"Then get some more sleep." Harrison said, "Let her wait."
Adeline shook her head. "If I sleep any longer, I'll never get to bed tonight. And I have work tomorrow."
After confirming plans with Daphne, she got up to head to the bathroom, but Harrison pulled her right back down.
"Don't rush," he murmured, voice low and husky, hugging her tightly. "Stay with me a little longer."
"Alright," Adeline agreed, wrapping her arms around his waist. "What time did you fall asleep last night? I don't even remember getting out of the car."
She didn't need to ask. Of course it was Harrison who'd carried her up.
Honestly, she only felt safe enough to fall
asleep in the car because he was there.
Thinking of that, Harrison suddenly remembered her sleep-talking from earlier.
"What were you dreaming about this morning?" he asked.
"Huh?" Adeline blinked in confusion. "Why are you asking that?"
What had she dreamed this morning? She had to think.
Harrison repeated what she'd said in her sleep.
As soon as he finished, Adeline's memory clicked.
Oh, right. In her dream, she and Harrison had argued over something, and Alberto had walked in.
Alberto thought Harrison was bullying her and ended up punching him.
In the dream, Harrison just let Alberto hit him and didn't even fight back.
She'd gotten so anxious, so she'd actually muttered "Don't hit him" in her sleep.
"That's what you get for picking a fight with me," Adeline grumbled. "Alberto went easy on you."
Harrison laughed, "How could I ever dare pick a fight with you now?"
"You did that day," she said stubbornly.
"When you called me on the phone."
"I was pretending."
"Still not allowed," Adeline said, reaching over to pinch him. "Say you're sorry."
Her pinching didn't hurt, but it definitely tickled.
Harrison caught her mischievous hand, grinning,"Okay, I'm sorry."
Even though he'd apologized, Adeline still wanted to mess with him.
"Your punishment? You're not allowed to sleep in my bed tonight.”
The second the words were out, she immediately regretted it.
Sure enough, Harrison's eyes narrowed dangerously.
"Not allowed to sleep in your bed?"
He pulled her even closer, bodies pressed tightly together.
Neither of them was wearing anything, and Adeline could feel the rapid change in his body.
