Chapter 536: It's Better If You Don't Know
Adeline quickly put on her clothes and shot Joyce a glare. "God, you're such a perv. You've never changed, have you?"
"Why are you covering up? We've known each other for so many years, and I've seen every inch of you," Joyce scoffed, rolling her eyes.
As she said that, Joyce took a step forward, trying to mess with Adeline.
Adeline immediately started tickling her, and the two of them playfully wrestled for a while.
"Enough," Adeline said, pushing Joyce away.
"I need to change. What are we doing today?"
The last time she stayed in Yewhaina, she had already explored all the nearby spots.
"I don't know," Joyce replied. "Let's go shopping. I've been wanting to buy a new bag."
"Alright."
Joyce had been on a bit of a bag shopping spree lately.
With Sam's wealth, she obviously didn't have to worry about the cost of a few bags.
Before she came to Yewhaina, he had given her a bank card, telling her to buy whatever she wanted without worrying about the price.
He even joked that if she didn't spend it all before returning, he'd be mad.
Joyce had never encountered such unreasonable demands.
Since that was the case, she decided to buy more.
Truth be told, Joyce knew full well that Sam had sent her to Yewhaina to help Harrison with some things.
He didn't want her to worry.
Giving her the card and saying those things was his way of distracting her and letting her focus on shopping.
As she spent, Sam would be notified.
If she bought a little more, it would show Sam that she was enjoying her time in Yewhaina.
That would give him some peace of mind, too.
Joyce and Adeline finished breakfast and prepared to go out.
They asked Connie if she wanted to join, but she said she had to go to work.
She was working at the Mendoza Group now, though just in a lower-level position. Alberto had wanted to bring her closer to him, but Connie refused.
She said she wanted to stand on her own at the company. If she went straight to Alberto's side right after joining, people would think she was just a useless person relying on him.
Alberto couldn't persuade her and reluctantly agreed to let her be.
Before Adeline and Joyce left, Alberto received a call.
After listening to the call, Alberto hung up. He turned to the two ladies and said, "They really gave Callan a beating last night. Do you want to go see him?"
"What kind of beating?" Joyce asked, curious.
Last night, she knew Alberto's men would make sure Callan suffered.
But she didn't know what exactly they had done to him.
She had forgotten to ask, just glad that Callan was getting punished.
At her question, a strange smile suddenly appeared on Alberto's face.
"You're better off not knowing," he said.
Joyce fell silent.
Looking at Alberto's smile, she couldn't help but shiver.
Since Joyce had met Alberto, he had always been kind to her, probably because she was Adeline's friend.
This was the first time she had seen such a smile on his face.
And it looked eerie.
"Alberto, you've scared Joyce," Adeline said, noticing her friend's discomfort.
Alberto quickly wiped the smile off his face.
"If you don't want to see him, I'll have him released."
Joyce thought for a moment, then shook her head. "I don't want to see him. I really don't want to look at that face again."
"Alright."
Alberto nodded and sent a message to his men, telling them to release Callan.
Of course, Callan couldn't escape on his own now.
The men didn't spare him a glance as they left.
However, they at least left him his phone.
Callan weakly picked up the phone and called his men.
When his men arrived and saw the scene before them, they were shocked.
"Callan. What happened? How did this..."
"Shut up," Callan snapped, veins bulging on his forehead. "Just get me out of here."
This place was a nightmare, no, it was hell.
He never wanted to be here again.
He probably wouldn't even want to go near any other warehouses.
His men didn't dare ask any more questions and hurriedly helped Callan into the car. But Callan was too weak to sit properly, so they had to make him lie down on the seat.
One of his men started the car and asked carefully, "Callan, you really don't look so good. Should we take you to the hospital?"
"No," Callan immediately responded. "No hospital, or else..."
He gritted his teeth. "Take me back to the hotel, then get a doctor to check me. It has to be someone tight-lipped."
"It's fine, nobody here knows us..."
"Shut up!"
After yelling at him, Callan ran out of energy and lay back on the seat, breathing heavily.
His men didn't dare say anything further and drove in silence.
After a while, Callan murmured darkly, "Tell everyone not to spread any news. Understood? Or else, I'll have your lives."
After all, Callan was Jamarion's son, and the subordinates still feared him, so they quickly nodded.
"Don't worry, Callan. We won't say a word about this."
In truth, they didn't even know how to explain this to anyone.
Callan felt somewhat relieved that they wouldn't go against his orders, but at that moment, his thoughts turned to Joyce.
The one who had taught him a lesson was
Adeline's brother.
Maybe he would tell Joyce what happened last night.
He wondered how Joyce would see him then.
He was already a disgrace in her eyes.
If she found out about last night, she'd probably hate him even more.
For a moment, Callan's eyes and face turned red.
He wanted to sit up and yell out the window, but every time he moved, pain shot through him, so he had to give up.
Meanwhile, Adeline and Joyce were shopping happily.
Both of them had things on their minds.
But since they were out enjoying themselves, there was no need to show it.
Besides, it wouldn't help to dwell on the trouble.
It only made things worse.
It was better to try to enjoy themselves.
"What do you think of this bag?" Joyce pointed to a new style in the display.
"It's nice, but it looks a bit hard to match," Adeline replied.
"No worries, buy it. How about this one?"
"Ugly."
"It's ugly, but it has character. Get it."
"How about this one?"
"This one's nice. Looks good."
"Nice? Get it."
Joyce kept buying.
The sales clerk's smile was practically glued to her face.
