Chapter 528: Ask for Trouble
Rogelio spoke with palpable anguish, "Children? We won't be having any more children."
"What?" Jasmine froze. "What do you mean by that?"
"I mean, we're not having any more children." Rogelio ran a hand through his hair, his face etched with sorrow. "After your miscarriage, the doctor told me that you won't be able to get pregnant again."
For Jasmine, it felt like a bolt from the blue.
She had been planning to use a child to hold onto Rogelio.
But now, Rogelio was telling her she could never have children.
She couldn't accept that.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Jasmine's voice became sharp as she shouted.
"You had just lost the baby, and your health was poor, mentally and physically. I thought I'd wait until later to tell you. But I didn't expect that Russell would be so relentless."
What surprised Rogelio more was that he was completely powerless against Russell.
He had always known that Russell was formidable. Since taking over the Hunter Group, Russell had made it thrive, and his personal wealth was beyond reckoning.
Rogelio knew it was best not to cross Russell.
But he never imagined that when Russell struck, he would be left utterly defenseless.
To think that his own son could control him, Rogelio felt utterly ridiculous.
Jasmine's mind raced, her breaths becoming rapid as she forced herself to calm down.
This was a crushing blow for her, but now wasn't the time to focus on that. The most pressing thing was to get out of the detention center.
"Even if I can't have children anymore, we ve been together for years. For the sake of our bond, could you think of a way to get me out of here?"
Rogelio hesitated, his voice tinged with uncertainty. "The only thing I can do right now is make your time in detention a bit more bearable. I can't do more than that."
"Rogelio!" Jasmine's voice cracked with fury and disappointment. "What do you mean? Are you just going to leave me to rot? After all these years, you're just going to walk away from me?"
"It's not that I don't care. I can't." Rogelio's voice broke, barely holding it together. "Do you think Russell's only targeting you? He's after me too. In a few days, I have to leave the country. He's forcing me into this."
After all, Russell was his own flesh and blood.
He still showed Rogelio some respect.
It was just that he was being forced to leave Orianto.
Of course, his life abroad wouldn't be as carefree as it was here.
"You're going abroad?" Jasmine muttered, her voice thick with disbelief. "No, absolutely not..." Suddenly, she moved closer, lowering her voice, her face twisted with anger. "You think you can just leave me here alone? Not a chance! Rogelio, listen to me. If you walk away, I'll expose everything from back then. We'll both go to prison, but at least we'll have each other for company."
At her words, Rogelio's face drained of color.
"You... you've lost your mind. Didn't we agree never to bring that up again? Are you trying to destroy yourself?" Rogelio's face was pale. "Don't act on impulse. You're being charged with theft, and the amount isn't that much. Even if Harrison and Russell pull every trick in the book, you'll only spend a few days in jail. But if you bring that up, it's all over."
"So what if it's a dead end?" Jasmine's laugh turned cold. "If I have you for company on this road to ruin, then I'm not afraid."
Rogelio stared at Jasmine in shock.
He realized that Jasmine was dead serious.
In that moment, he felt that Jasmine was a complete stranger.
But then again, he was the same.
He was also too scared to fight for her.
But he would never let Jasmine expose what happened all those years ago.
Otherwise, he would be done for.
"Don't be rash," he said, his voice low and desperate. "I'll think of something. Even if it costs me my life, I'll figure out a way to get you out. Just please, don't do anything impulsive."
Hearing this, Jasmine smiled smugly.
She knew that once she played this card, Rogelio would have no choice but to yield.
Of course, that incident from the past was serious. She wouldn't bring it up unless there was no other way out.
But now, she had no other choice.
"Darling, I knew you'd always take care of me," Jasmine purred, using the same sweet, syrupy tone from before.
But now, Rogelio felt no warmth toward her.
In fact, a deep sense of disgust welled up inside him.
The plane landed at Yewhaina Airport.
Alberto and his girlfriend Connie were there to meet Adeline and Joyce.
Isaac and Gracie were supposed to come as well.
But something came up at the last minute.
Adeline told them not to worry and to go take care of their business. After all, they were family.
There was no need for all the formalities.
As for Joyce, she had already accepted Gracie as her godmother, so she was family too.
Watching Alberto and Connie, who had clearly reconciled and were all lovey-dovey, Adeline smiled happily.
On the ride back, Alberto said to Adeline,
"The Livingstons have been going crazy trying to find Pedro. They lost contact with him recently, and they still haven't found him."
"Really?" Adeline replied casually. "Maybe Pedro just went off somewhere to relax."
Alberto glanced at her through the rearview mirror, his expression knowing. "But Pedro went to Orianto. He disappeared there."
Adeline smiled, "Pedro really is careless."
Seeing her calm demeanor, Alberto felt reassured.
He hadn't been to the mainland recently and wasn't sure about the situation there. He had been worried that Pedro's troubles would involve Adeline.
After all, Benjamin had also fled there.
But then he remembered that Harrison and Adeline weren't the types to be easily dragged down.
He realized he had been overthinking.
As the car neared the Mendoza's estate, Joyce suddenly asked, "Why is there someone crouching over there?"
Adeline glanced over.
The person looked familiar.
Alberto's voice turned cold. "It's Camilla. She's been coming by our house a lot lately, crying and begging to see her mother. We can't get rid of her. She's such a nuisance."
Alberto had lived through that difficult period.
Even though he was young, those memories were still fresh in his mind.
Naturally, he felt no sympathy for Camilla, the daughter of the woman who had caused so much trouble.
At that moment, Camilla saw the car approaching.
She quickly ran over and blocked their path.
Alberto slammed on the brakes just in time.
"She's completely out of her mind," he muttered.
