Chapter 510: Alondra Came to Find Her
"Adeline!"
The little girl was Edward and Britney's daughter, Alondra.
Adeline had thought it looked like her from the car.
She reached out, gently pulling Alondra up, her tone full of concern. "What are you doing here by yourself? Are you all alone?"
There really wasn't anyone with Alondra.
Head down, Alondra mumbled, "I came here by myself. Please don't be mad."
Adeline frowned. She was not angry but genuinely shaken.
Alondra was still so little, and she'd only just come back to the country. Everything was unfamiliar to her.
What if she'd gotten lost, or something bad happened on the way?
Thankfully, she'd made it safely here.
"Come on, let's go inside first," Adeline said.
"Okay, thank you."
Adeline brought Alondra home, poured her a glass of juice, and waited until she'd finished half before gently asking, "Why did you come all this way by yourself?"
Alondra's eyes turn red at the question.
She shot a cautious look at Adeline and whispered, "There's no one at home I can talk to. just feel so lonely. And every time I call Dad, he sounds really weird. I'm scared, but I don't know who to talk to."
There were plenty of maids around, sure, but they just did their jobs, and sometimes whispered about her and her mom, thinking she couldn't hear, but she did.
Lorenzo loved her, but he always felt a little distant, so she never dared talk to Lorenzo about much.
The loneliness just piled up, and all Alondra wanted was someone to be there with her.
Of course, the first person she thought of was her mom.
But Edward said her mom was already back in Yewhaina.
There was no way she could go there by herself.
Then she thought of Adeline.
Alondra hadn't seen Adeline that many times.
But every time, she felt close to Adeline.
So, she asked one of the maids where Adeline lived.
Then she snuck out, grabbed a taxi, and came straight to Shurford Residence.
She was young, but she knew how to get a cab.
Listening to Alondra, Adeline felt a pang of guilt and sorrow. "Poor kid, she's really had it rough."
"But you can't just run off by yourself. If you want to see me, you can always call me. I'll come get you or bring you over here. What if your family realized you were missing? Imagine how worried they'd be."
While talking, Adeline was already texting the Thomson family to let them know.
She had to let them know where Alondra was, so Lorenzo wouldn't panic.
Hearing Adeline's words, Alondra hung her head in shame. "I'm sorry. I won't do it again."
At the time, she'd felt so stifled that she just wanted to see Adeline, and she hadn't thought about anything else.
Now that Adeline said it out loud, she realized she'd messed up.
Lorenzo really did care about her. She was still a kid, but she knew who treated her well.
If she disappeared, Lorenzo would definitely be worried.
But, at that moment, Lorenzo actually had no idea Alondra was missing.
The maids who were supposed to watch her hadn't told him a thing.
They just assumed Alondra was off
somewhere in the huge house, playing as usual.
After all, the Thomson villa was massive.
Alondra often skipped rope in the backyard.
So the maids just didn't take it seriously.
It wasn't until hours later that they realized something was wrong.
When they searched the entire villa and couldn't find her, they finally panicked.
Alondra was Edward's illegitimate child, and Edward wasn't even at the villa anymore.
But she was still Lorenzo's granddaughter.
And Lorenzo actually doted on her.
The maids were terrified, wondering how they could ever explain to Lorenzo.
Just then, Lorenzo got a call from Adeline.
When Adeline told him Alondra was safe with her, he was stunned.
Lorenzo thought, "How did Alondra end up at Adeline's place? When did she leave?"
Adeline picked up on his confusion and explained, "She's been gone for hours already. Looks like the people who were supposed to watch her aren't doing their job."
She wasn't trying to rat out the staff for no reason.
They were getting paid handsomely by the Thomson family, but they couldn't even keep track of a child.
Did people like that really deserve to keep their jobs?
She was just stating facts.
Lorenzo instantly understood.
Furious, he immediately told the butler to fire all those maids and hire new, reliable people to look after Alondra.
Then, he turned back to Adeline. "Thank you for all this, dear.”
Adeline laughed, "You're welcome. It's really no trouble. And I love having Alondra here. By the way, it's already late, so how about she just spends the night?"
Lorenzo agreed at once.
If Alondra had gone all the way to see Adeline, it meant she really wanted to be with her.
After hanging up, Lorenzo started to reflect.
Maybe he really hadn't been paying enough attention to his granddaughter these past few days.
After finishing the call, Adeline turned to Alondra and said, "Are you hungry? Want anything to eat?"
Alondra looked a little embarrassed and shook her head, but her stomach immediately rumbled.
Adeline reached out and ruffled her hair. "You don't need to be shy here."
Alondra's face was bright red. "I'll eat anything. I'm not picky."
Adeline texted to have food delivered, making sure to order extra dishes little kids might like.
Then she turned on the TV and put on some cartoons for Alondra.
She was allowed to watch at the villa too, but somehow, sitting with Adeline, she just felt extra happy and smiled a whole lot more.
Adeline also messaged Harrison to let him know Alondra was there.
Harrison didn't mind at all. He just said, "Do whatever you think is best."
Soon, the food arrived.
Adeline opened the boxes. There were cola chicken wings, corn with pine nuts, shrimp with eggs-kid's favorites.
Honestly, she liked those too.
Alondra was thrilled, devoured much, and still licked her lips wanting more.
After the meal, Adeline finally asked, "You said your dad seemed weird lately when you talked on the phone. What did you mean?"
