Chapter 509: What Kind of Kink Is This?
Anna stumbled out of Harrison's office, looking completely defeated.
Adeline was a little surprised to see her like that.
She couldn't help asking, "Did Mr. Thomson say something to you?"
"No," Anna said, on the verge of tears, "but honestly, l'd rather he just yelled at me."
Adeline was speechless and thought, "Seriously, what kind of weird kink is that?"
At lunch, Adeline got a bunch of photos from Daphne.
They were all from the shoot yesterday afternoon.
Daphne texted, "I barely even retouched them. Adeline, you were amazing! Except for the first few where you looked a little stiff, the rest are all fantastic!"
Adeline wasn't a professional by any means, but even she could see that these pictures turned out great; for a second, she almost felt like she was looking at a magazine cover.
She was just about to share them with Harrison when she noticed he was already sitting there, completely zoned out, staring at his phone.
That look on his face was rare.
Curious, Adeline leaned over to peek at his screen.
Turns out Daphne had just sent him the photos, too.
Harrison was staring so intently at them. It was like the rest of the world had faded away.
Adeline leaned in, rested her chin on his shoulder, and asked with a playful little smirk, "Aren't I gorgeous?"
"Gorgeous," Harrison answered immediately.
To him, she was breathtaking.
Why else would he be staring at her for so long? Adeline was about to tease him when she saw Harrison suddenly save every photo Daphne sent.
Then he made one his lock screen, another his home screen, and another the chat background.
Adeline couldn't help but laugh.
His phone background had always been her picture.
But now, his entire phone was basically a shrine to her.
"You're really going all in with this?" Adeline asked, holding back a laugh. "What if someone sees it..."
"Let them see," Harrison said, completely unfazed. "Shouldn't a guy's phone be full of pictures of his girlfriend?"
"You..." Adeline pinched his cheek, "You're nothing like the guy I met at the beginning."
Back then, she'd thought Harrison was some cold, unapproachable CEO, the kind who didn't even know how to smile.
And, well, he still kind of was around other people.
But with her, he was totally different.
Harrison just smiled and slipped his arm around her waist.
"And you've started acting more and more like the girl I first met."
He thought, "That lively, smiling, carefree girl."
She didn't treat him with that professional distance anymore.
He loved it.
Adeline couldn't help but give him a kiss.
Harrison was just about to deepen it when her phone chimed with a new message.
She checked and saw it was another text from Daphne.
"Adeline, are you going to Yewhaina soon? I'm planning a trip, and if you're going, maybe we could go together."
Daphne knew Adeline's family was all in Yewhaina, so she was reaching out.
If they traveled together, at least she wouldn't have to go alone.
Honestly, Daphne sounded a little nervous.
She clearly needed someone familiar by her side.
She wasn't planning to bring any of those handsome assistants.
Adeline was already planning to go back this weekend, and she'd discussed it with Harrison a few days ago.
She missed her family, and besides, she wanted to deliver the lucky charms to them in person.
"I'm going home this weekend," she texted
Daphne back.
A moment later, Daphne replied, "Great, I'll come with you."
Adeline agreed and didn't ask anything more.
She had a feeling that Daphne wasn't just going for fun. There must be something else.
But since Daphne wasn't saying, Adeline didn't push.
After all, it could be something private.
"We'll bring Daphne with us to Yewhaina this weekend," Adeline told Harrison.
They were planning to take Harrison's private jet anyway, so bringing Daphne along was no big deal. Harrison obviously didn't mind.
That afternoon, Adeline was back doing interviews.
When everything was wrapped up, she discussed the candidates with the rest of the exec office, settled on two, and brought their résumés and interview notes to Harrison for review.
She thought both were good; Harrison agreed without argument.
So Adeline had Anna send out job offers to the two candidates.
Anna was thrilled because one of them happened to be that cute guy she'd pointed out earlier.
Of course, they didn't choose him for his looks. It was his performance that stood out.
Plus, his résumé was impressive and his background squeaky clean.
So, he got the job.
Anna happily sent an offer to the young man, whose name was Triston Mercado.
They'd already told everyone at the interview that if one passed, he could start tomorrow.
Triston would be coming in first thing.
"Miss Hensley, can I be the one to show him the ropes?" Anna asked eagerly.
Adeline gave her a look and laughed, "Why do I get the feeling you're up to no good?"
"What? Me? Never!" Anna protested. "It's just... If there's a good-looking guy around at work, it'll make my days brighter. That way I'll be even more productive!"
She said it with a totally straight face.
Adeline nodded. "Fair enough. Just don't let
'flirting with the new kid' get in the way of actually working, Okay?"
"Never!" Anna promised, hand over her heart.
Adeline was just messing with her anyway.
knew Anna was too professional to let a pretty face distract her from her job.
"Fine, you can show him around tomorrow."
"Thanks, Miss Hensley!" Anna grinned.
That evening, Harrison had a dinner meeting.
Normally, Adeline would go with him.
But tonight, Harrison absolutely insisted she stay home.
For one, he didn't want her getting tired.
For another, he was sick of guys at those things staring at her.
Even if everyone was usually intimidated by Harrison's reputation, there were always a few who dared to sneak looks at Adeline.
Every time he saw it, it pissed him off.
So this time, he just told her to go home and rest.
Honestly, he could skip this kind of dinner
whenever he wanted.
But tonight, he decided to go.
"You really don't want me to come with you?" Adeline asked.
"I really don't," Harrison insisted.
He held the car door for her and waited for her to get in.
Adeline nagged him, "Don't drink too much."
"Don't worry," Harrison smiled. "I'm not drinking tonight."
If he didn't want to drink, nobody would dare make him.
Since he said so, Adeline was reassured.
Harrison closed her door, and the driver started the car.
When she got back to the Residence, Adeline suddenly noticed a tiny figure by the main gate.
She thought it looked familiar and immediately told the driver, "Stop here for a second."
The driver pulled over at once.
Adeline got out and walked over to the little figure.
It was a little girl, crouched on the ground, staring blankly at something on the pavement.
When she heard footsteps, the little girl slowly lifted her head.
And when she saw Adeline, her face lit up.

Hmmm, she's Harrison's little sister and she so much in want of seeing Adeline. Since her mother's out of the way, and her father driven out of the Thompson's luxury estate, it's just only Adeline to go to when feeling lonely and in dare need of companion. Poor little girl.
