Chapter 516 : Join the Group Because of Her
The hallway lighting wasn't very bright, and Adeline was a bit tipsy, so she didn't think much about it. She just assumed Triston was being nice.
She took the drink from him without hesitation.
It tasted sweet and tangy. She wasn't sure if it would actually help, but at least it tasted good.
Triston's eyes lit up the moment he saw her drink it.
He seemed thrilled. Once Adeline had finished about half, he took a deep breath, gathered his courage, and blurted, "Miss Hensley... I only applied for this job because of you."
Adeline's eyes widened in shock.
"Wait, what?"
She thought, "What does that even mean?
Because of me? What did he want?
Triston realized his words sounded off and got so flustered that his face turned red. He quickly explained, "No, not like that. I mean... I really admire you! Like, you're my idol, that kind of admiration. That's why I wanted to work in the same place as you."
Adeline let out a little sigh of relief.
Still, she was curious. "How could I be Triston's idol?"
She couldn't recall ever meeting him before.
Triston went on, "Two years ago, the Thomson Group partnered with my university for an event. I volunteered to help, and that's where I saw you. You were seriously impressive."
Honestly, the first thing that caught his attention was how pretty she was.
When he saw her, Triston had actually thought she was a celebrity hired for the event.
But then he saw her staff badge and realized sne was actually part of the Thomson Group.
He watched as Adeline calmly directed the whole operation. No matter what went wrong, she could handle it. Even when everyone else was freaking out, she always had a solution.
That was when she really stuck in his mind, and he'd looked up to her ever since.
He graduated last summer and wanted to apply to the Thomson Group right away, but some family stuff got in the way.
His parents even tried to pull some strings to get him a job elsewhere, but as soon as he saw the job posting for the president's office, he turned them down and sent in his resume.
Luckily, he made it to the final round of interviews and actually got the job.
And now, he was Adeline's coworker.
Honestly, he'd been so nervous sitting across from her in the interview, but his nerves held.
And honestly, he'd been following everything about the Thomson Group for two years.
Well, just the stuff that was public, of course. No secrets.
But compared to most new hires, he knew a lot. And that's probably why he stood out.
As for why he kept up with Thomson Group?
It was all because of Adeline.
After that first event, he never had another chance to see her.
So he could only follow her news online.
He'd realized during the interview that she didn't recognize him at all.
It was a little disappointing but also understandable.
After all, that event was so busy, and there were tons of student volunteers. She probably hadn't even spoken to him.
No way she'd remember him.
Hearing Triston's story, Adeline vaguely remembered that event, but she reaily had no impression of him.
She'd just been too busy that day to even notice what the student volunteers looked like, let alone remember names.
"So that's what it was," Adeline said, giving him a warm smile.
Triston nodded. "You're honestly amazing, Miss Hensley."
He meant every word.
Adeline shook her head. "I'm really not as amazing as you think. I was panicking too. Just, you couldn't see it."
Okay, that was a little white lie. In reality, she wasn't panicked, just focused.
But she didn't want Triston to put her on a pedestal. She was only human, after all, and bound to make mistakes sometimes. She didn't want to set him up for disappointment.
If he ever saw his "idol" mess up, it would only discourage him.
Triston gave her a gentle smile. "Don't worry, Miss Hensley. I get it. Now that I'm here, I'll do my best. Admiring you is just part of it. The rest is for myself."
Hearing that, Adeline relaxed.
"Alright, let's head back."
The two walked back together. Adeline, used to keeping up appearances, still managed to walk steady even after drinking.
Triston could tell she wasn't quite herself.
led out to steady her, but she subtly avoided his hand.
Adeline knew Triston meant well, but she was spoken for, and it was better to keep her distance from other men.
She could handle herself for now.
Triston didn't push, just walked quietly a step behind her.
When they returned to the private room, nobody thought anything of it. After all, everyone knew Adeline wouldn't mess around, and most of them had a sense about her and Harrison anyway.
The dinner ended, and people suggested going to sing karaoke next door.
Someone booked a huge KTV room right away.
Inside, everyone was singing, dancing, and playing games. But the more Adeline drank, the playing games. But the more Adeline drank, the drowsier she got until she found herself quietly nodding off in the corner.
Suddenly, the door to the room swung open.
Anna was the first to notice, and when she saw who it was, she hurriedly paused the music.
Everyone stopped and looked over at her and then followed her gaze to the door.
Harrison walked in.
Everyone froze for a second, then scrambled to stand up.
"Mr. Thomson!"
"Mr. Thomson, there you are!"
Harrison's eyes landed right on Adeline, who looked like she was about to fall asleep.
"Go ahead, keep having fun. Pretend I'm not here," Harrison said.
As he spoke, he strode across th Adeline.
Before anyone could react, he bent down,
scooped her up in his arms, and carried her out.
Once the door shut behind them, the room went silent for a moment.
Then it exploded into chatter.
"See? I told you there was something going on between them!"
"No way. They're really together?"
"I mean, I always thought there was a weird vibe, but honestly, I thought Mr. Thomson didn't even like women."
"Hey, are you trying to get yourself fired?"
Anna, the only one who actually knew the truth, coughed and said, "Alright, that's enough. Are we really going to gossip abou
Thomson? A word of advice. You'd all beer keep your mouths shut until he makes it official."
