Chapter 508: He's Still a Kid
Anna's words really did hit home for Adeline.
She honestly hoped the executive office would stay calm and peaceful, with no more drama or trouble.
She'd been especially careful with this round of hiring.
Everyone who made it to the final interview had been thoroughly background-checked.
So far, nothing had turned up.
It was almost nine-thirty.
Adeline, Anna, and a senior colleague from the executive office arrived early in the interview room to serve as the panel.
All the morning, the candidates were already there.
Adeline skimmed over their résumés again.
Everyone was from a top university, each one more impressive than the last.
"Wow, Miss Hensley, this one's kind of cute," Anna whispered, showing Adeline a
candidate's résumé.
The photo was of a young guy, definitely good-looking, sunny, and fresh-faced.
Adeline checked his details. He had just graduated from college this year.
"He's still just a kid," Adeline teased, "Don't you start thinking about him."
"Oh, please, I'm only a couple years older than he is," Anna grinned.
Adeline joked back a little, but she didn't give it much thought.
After all, they were here to pick talent, not pretty faces.
By a little after eleven, the interviews were over.
When Adeline got back to the executive office, a colleague nervously told her, "Miss Hensley, Mr. Thomson just arrived, and he doesn't seem to be in a good mood."
Nobody dared go near Harrison when he was in a mood.
Their only hope was Adeline.
Adeline was baffled. "Harrison is upset? Why?"
She hadn't brought her phone to the interviews.
Back at her desk, she picked up her phone.
It was bombarded with messages from Harrison.
First, he'd woken up and complained that she didn't wake him. Then, he whined because she didn't wait to come to work with him, and after she still didn't reply, he sent even more texts asking why she was ignoring him.
Adeline scrolled through the whole list, half amused, half exasperated.
The only reason she hadn't woken him up was that she felt bad for him.
This guy really didn't know how good he had it.
Still, just reading his needy little rants made her feel distressed. She headed to the pantry, ground some coffee herself, and brought it to his office.
As soon as she walked in, she saw Harrison typing away at emails.
His long fingers tapping on the keyboard looked ridiculously attractive.
Every now and then he'd push up his gold-rimmed glasses, which somehow made him look even sexier.
It made Adeline instantly remember biting his shoulder last night, unable to hold back.
Her cheeks warmed up.
Harrison obviously knew she'd come in, but he kept his poker face, ignoring her and staring at his screen.
Adeline knew he was all bark and no bite, so she smiled, walked over, and set the coffee on his desk.
"Your coffee, Mr. Thomson."
Harrison was about to keep up the act.
But the sound of her voice broke him.
He couldn't help it and finally looked up at her.
Adeline leaned in and gave him a quick kiss.
It was just a light peck.
But it nearly stopped Harrison's heart.
He stared at Adeline's smiling face for a long moment before saying, "That's against the rules."
"What? How is that against the rules?"
Adeline said innocently. "Are you saying it's wrong to kiss my own boyfriend?"
Harrison cleared his throat, "This is the office."
"Oh, stop it," Adeline reached out and pinched his cheek.
He had kissed her plenty of times right here at work.
Saying that now was just plain unconvincing.
Harrison was a little flustered.
So, of course, he changed the subject.
"Why didn't you wake me up this morning?" he accused, "And why didn't you wait to go to work together?"
Adeline laughed, "I just wanted to let you sleep a little more. You looked so tired last night. You really don't appreciate my kindness, do you?
"I'm not tired."
Then Harrison reached out and pulled her onto his lap.
"Let me show you just how not tired I am."
Before Adeline could protest, Harrison had already pressed his lips to hers.
His kiss was intense, and Adeline had to clutch his shirt to keep steady.
And, sitting on his lap, she could very clearly feel certain changes in his body.
She tried to push him away.
Office flirting was one thing, but she definitely couldn't let this go any further here...
But Harrison caught her wrist, trapping her.
Adeline panicked, ready to bite his lip, when suddenly someone knocked at the door.
Harrison heard it too.
He loosened his grip just enough.
Adeline quickly wriggled off his lap, out of breath, "Someone's knocking."
Harrison's temple twitched.
His voice was low and dangerous. "Who is it?"
The comer was intimidated, and after a beat, said, "Mr. Thomson, I'm here to drop off some documents."
"It's Anna," Adeline said.
Harrison was clearly annoyed.
Adeline could tell and smiled, "Come on, it's office hours. Your secretary delivering paperwork is totally normal. Don't be unreasonable." With that, she straightened her clothes and got up from his lap.
"I'm going back to work."
"Lunch together," Harrison said.
"Alright."
As she opened the door, she saw Anna clutching a stack of files.
Anna looked nervously at Adeline, making wild eyes.
Harrison's voice had sounded so harsh just now, which had her worried.
She was scared.
Adeline whispered, "Don't worry. It's fine."
After what she'd just said to Harrison, there was no way he'd take it out on Anna.
With Adeline's reassurance, Anna relaxed a little.
And sure enough, when she walked in to deliver the files, Harrison just looked at her in his usual cold way, not angry at all.
Anna breathed a sigh of relief.
But then, suddenly, she noticed something.
Anna thought, "Miss Hensley's lips look a little swollen. And Mr. Thomson's lips... Is that lipstick smudged on them? Oh god, I've totally walked in on them making out."
And she'd interrupted them.
Realizing this, Anna wanted to slap herself.
Of all the times to bring files, she had to pick the exact moment the office lovebirds were getting cozy.
No wonder Harrison had sounded so pissed just now.
