Chapter 406: Keep an Eye on Kira
Cody flinched, not daring to say another word.
Kira wasn't one to just talk; she could back up her threats.
No matter what trouble she caused, she was Bruce's daughter.
If she threw a tantrum, Bruce might actually fire him.
Cody couldn't afford to lose his job.
But he didn't know how to explain this to Harrison.
"Miss Goodwin, you can stay here, but if you're going to follow Mr. Thomson, just quietly observe him from a distance. Don't bother him, alright?" Cody pleaded, "If you don't listen, not only will you be in trouble, but Mr. Goodwin could get dragged into it too."
"I got it," Kira replied, but in her mind, she couldn't care less.
Her father was one of Lorenzo's top operatives.
He'd been running Daltoria's business for the Thomson family for years.
Kira thought that Harrison wouldn't fall out with them over a woman.
She shoved Cody aside and walked straight into her room, slamming the door behind her.
Cody felt so nervous that he almost sweated all over.
What a nightmare! He'd rather take on a super difficult project than have to deal with Kira's childish tantrums.
Just then, his phone rang.
Cody glanced at his phone, seeing it was Bruce calling. He quickly answered, "Mr. Goodwin."
"I saw that you tried calling me," Bruce said, "Is there something important?"
"Mr. Goodwin, Miss Goodwin has been sticking around Mr. Thomson, and when I tried to get her to leave, she refused. What should I do?" Cody asked, hoping for guidance.
He needed to ask Bruce before he did anything, so if Kira caused any trouble, he wouldn't be blamed.
"What? Kira? This girl is really too spoiled," Bruce said in frustration. "Looks like everything I told her didn't get through."
"Mr. Goodwin, should I force her to leave? But she seems pretty upset, and if I take her by force..."
Bruce, too, worried Kira might do something reckless.
"Forget it. She's definitely not going to go with you," Bruce said.
"Why don't you come over and take her yourself?" Cody asked.
"I'm tied up here. Alright, you stay there. Keep an eye on her. Don't let her disturb Harrison. Watch her closely-if she tries to cause trouble for him, that could be a disaster."
Cody said, "Uh... but there's some work back at the office..."
Bruce said, "The office stuff doesn't matter. Let someone else handle it. Your job is to keep an eye on Kira."
Cody sighed heavily, reluctantly agreeing.
He thought he'd be free once Bruce called.
But now, he had a much bigger problem on his hands.
Cody thought, "Keep an eye on Kira? How's that possible?”
If he pissed her off, she'd probably slap him across the face.
Cody felt sure that Kira would end up causing trouble.
She was Bruce's daughter, and Bruce would definitely protect her.
And when that happened, who would take the fall?
Of course, it would be poor Cody, the assistant.
When that day came, not only would Harrison not spare him, but Bruce would likely have his head too.
Cody was fuming. "What kind of mess was this? What have I done to deserve this?
Rowen asked him to go get Kira-that was understandable. After all, he was Bruce's assistant and made a good salary, so this was part of his job.
What really pissed him off was Kira, this spoiled idiot who wouldn't listen to anything.
And now, she was dragging him down with her.
But Bruce had given him orders, and he had no choice but to comply.
He went to the hotel front desk and booke room right across from Kira's.
He had to keep an eye on her. He couldn't let this troublemaker cause a bigger mess.
Adeline stood by the living room window, watching Benjamin walk toward the front door.
She felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
As long as Benjamin wasn't in the same room with her. she felt free.
And with him gone, she could finally start her escape plan with Desmond.
As Benjamin reached the door, she saw him talking to a few guards standing outside.
The guards nodded and glanced toward the house.
Adeline could guess what he was doing.
Benjamin was probably reminding them to keep an eye on her.
She knew, too, that the guards outside weren't the only ones watching her.
There were likely more inside, making sure she didn't slip away.
But Desmond might not be under such strict surveillance.
Even though they'd confiscated his communication devices, they wouldn't be watching him as closely as they watched her.
Maybe, just maybe, they could find an opportunity.
Adeline headed toward the back yard to check the small gate again.
Sure enough, it was locked.
The fence was high, and there was no way she could climb over.
She had only just arrived here, but already, Jessica and Natalia came rushing toward her.
"Miss Hensley, what are you doing here?" They were out of breath from running.
"Please come back with us. It's cold outside, and you're not even wearing a coat-you'll catch a cold."
Adeline knew they were just keeping an eye on her.
It was getting windy, and indeed, it was cold.
She turned away and looked out at the blue sky beyond the fence.
She wondered when she would have the freedom she longed for.
In the evening, Adeline again used the excuse of practicing cooking with Desmond to head to the kitchen.
As they prepared the ingredients, they purposely exchanged snide remarks.
Then, Adeline turned to Jessica, who was standing by the door. "Jessica, when I was reading in the study this afternoon, I spilled some juice on the floor. Could you go clean it up?"
Jessica glanced at Desmond and said, "I'll go in a minute."
"No, go now." Adeline feigned displeasure, furrowing her brows.
"I'm a bit of a clean freak. Just thinking about the juice stain makes me feel uncomfortable. I can't even eat now."
Jessica hesitated. Natalia had gone off to do something else, and the guards weren't allowed in the house unless there was an emergency. If she left, that would leave Adeline and Desmond alone in the kitchen...
But neither of them could contact the outside world, so she figured it would be fine.
Jessica said, "Alright, I'll go clean it up. But if this man tries anything, you shout immediately."
"Don't worry."
Hey, what could I possibly do to her? I'm not crazy," Desmond muttered, irritated.
Jessica didn't respond, giving him a sharp look before heading out.
