Chapter 463: Are You Afraid?
At that moment, Harrison's voice seemed to freeze Waylon in his tracks.
Waylon regretted it deeply.
He wished he could slap himself.
He thought, "Why hadn't I controlled my mouth just now?"
"Mr. Thomson, I won't do it again. I was out of my mind that I spoke nonsense."
After Waylon spoke, Harrison didn't say a word, just coldly stared at him.
But that one look alone was enough to frighten Waylon into submission.
He had always been afraid of Harrison.
And at the same time, he secretly envied Harrison.
From the day he joined the executive office, he had envied Harrison.
He had imagined countless times how much better life would be if he were sitting in Harrison's position.
But dreams are sweet, and reality?
Brutal.
When he snapped back to reality, he realized he could only continue secretly envying Harrison.
When he heard from Adeline that she was dating Harrison, all the jealousy he had been suppressing finally erupted.
In his eyes, Adeline was untouchable-perfect, out of his league.
The thought that Adeline had become Harrison's girlfriend completely drove him crazy.
And that's when the words slipped out.
Waylon realized that pleading with Harrison was useless.
So, he turned to Adeline for help.
Maybe her heart would soften.
"Miss Hensley, I'm so sorry for what I said.
Please forgive me."
After speaking, he bowed deeply to Adeline.
Adeline was initially unwilling to acknowledge him, but after a moment, she finally spoke.
"Are you regretting now? Is it because you regret what you said, or because you regret not controlling yourself and letting your true feelings slip out?"
Adeline's question hit the nail on the head.
Waylon felt a chill run down his back.
In truth, he didn't actually feel his words were wrong.
Deep down, he still believed that Adeline was a gold-digger and that she was with Harrison for his money.
He even thought that if Harrison didn't have money, Adeline might have chosen him instead.
His regret now wasn't for his thoughts but for not keeping them to himself.
"I... I..."
Waylon didn't know how to answer
Adeline's question.
He steeled himself, raised his hand, and slapped himself hard.
"I'm sorry. Mr. Thomson, Miss Hensley, please forgive me, don't take it to heart."
He really slapped himself hard, and soon his face was bruised from the blows.
Harrison didn't want to witness his pathetic display any longer.
He spoke coldly, "Go to the finance department tomorrow and settle your pay."
Someone like Waylon could no longer stay in the executive office.
After saying that, Harrison turned and left with Adeline.
Waylon stopped slapping himself, on the verge of tears.
He had worked so hard to get into the executive office.
The perks there were great, and it was a place that many people had dreamt of getting into.
He had been working there for over two years and had finally settled in.
But now, because of his own reckless words, he had lost everything.
There was nothing he could do.
No one could change Harrison's decision.
What's more, it was he who had first spoken those. disrespectful words to Adeline.
For Harrison to allow him to settle his pay was already showing mercy.
Waylon couldn't face going back to the roast lamb dinner.
So, he covered his face and fled in disgrace.
The other colleagues were unaware of this incident.
After Harrison and Adeline returned, they didn't mention it to anyone.
The things Waylon said felt so dirty that they didn't even want to repeat them.
Alter dinner, everyone dispersed, heading home.
Adeline and Harrison were the last to leave.
A breeze blew through, causing a few leaves to fall from the trees.
One of them landed on Adeline's head.
Harrison reached out and gently removed it.
Looking at her, he couldn't help but bend down and kiss her.
"What are you doing..."
The kiss was sudden, catching Adeline completely off guard.
She instinctively turned her head, checking if anyone else was nearby.
When she turned around, she was stunned to see Russell not far away.
Adeline froze for a moment.
She hadn't expected to run into him
here.
But seeing that there was a restaurant next to the farmhouse, she soon figured it out.
Russell was likely eating at the nearby restaurant.
At that moment, Russell had a cigarette in his hand.
The flame was bright and red.
His eyes seemed a little red, too.
It was obvious that he had just seen Harrison kiss Adeline.
His hands were now clenched into fists.
Adeline met his gaze for a few seconds before looking away.
Harrison didn't immediately pull Adeline away, nor did he try to act overly intimate to assert his dominance.
He simply asked in a soft voice, "Do you want to say hello?"
Adeline hesitated before shaking her head slightly. "Better not."
Since she didn't want to give him any hope, it
would be better to keep her distance.
After all, things were different now.
She was with someone else.
This would be better for Russell.
If she continued to be cold, maybe he would finally give up.
"Let's get in the car," Adeline said.
"You go ahead," Harrison said. "I need to talk to him."
Adeline felt a bit worried at this.
"You're not planning to hit him again, are you?"
Harrison smiled. "What? Do you think I'm that impulsive?"
Adeline was speechless.
It was rich of him to say that.
Wasn't he the one who punched Russell the last time?
Harrison could tell by the look in Adeline's eyes
what she was thinking.
With a helpless sigh, he said, "Don't worry. I really won't."
He didn't want to argue with Adeline anymore.
Since he had promised, Adeline believed him.
So, she walked over to the car, opened the door, and got in.
Once she was inside, Harrison turned to look at Russell.
Russell was looking at him, too.
There was a silent tension between them.
As their eyes met, the air was thick with hostility.
"Don't bother her again," Harrison said, his gaze darkening.
Russell took a drag from his cigarette and chuckled.
"What's wrong? Are you scared?"
"Ridiculous." Harrison sneered. "I just don't want anyone causing her unnecessary stress."
"As for causing her stress, who can compare to you?" Russell scoffed. "Harrison, how did you treat her back then? Do you want me to remind you?"
"What happened between us in the past is none of your business."
"You don't want to talk about it?"
"I'm too lazy to listen."
But Russell, as if he hadn't heard Harrison, continued, "How many women were there around you back then? Kaylie, Eleanor, and Amber... but I won't mention her. She's gone."
He looked up at Harrison, his smile cold.
"But surely you remember how much trouble Kaylie and Eleanor caused Miss Hensley, don't you?"
