Chapter 416: She’s Injured
Adeline frowned slightly.
Then she said, "What did she say? She told me not to keep dreaming, that the person beside you is her..."
It wasn't anything pleasant, and she couldn't be bothered to remember the rest.
Harrison's eyes darkened.
Just these two lines were enough to make his blood boil.
But he didn't show it in front of Adeline.
"I understand," he said, planting a kiss on her forehead.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
Harrison stood up to open it.
When the door opened and he saw who it was, his face darkened.
It was Russell, and he was holding a bouquet of flowers in his hands.
The lilies were blooming beautifully.
When he saw Harrison, Russell's lips curled into a provocative smile.
Harrison said, "Oh, Mr. Hunter hasn't left Daltoria yet."
Harrison didn't seem to intend to let him in.
"Adeline is still here, so I won't leave,"
Russell said frankly. "She's injured, and I can't just leave her."
"I'm her boyfriend," Harrison said. "I'll take care of her."
"Really? Harrison, do you think you're still in a position to say that?"
Russell's words pierced through Harrison's chest like a knife.
After speaking, Russell bypassed Harrison and entered the room.
As he passed Harrison, he deliberately shoved Harrison's shoulder.
Adeline hadn't expected Russell to come, so when she saw him, she was a little surprised.
"How are you feeling?" Russell gently set the flowers on a table and asked softly.
"Much better," Adeline replied politely, her eyes involuntarily drifting to Harrison.
She knew that Harrison had always minded how close she and Russell were.
And now, Russell was here in the hospital visiting her.
Adeline wondered, "Would Harrison feel jealous?"
She hadn't expected Russell to be in Daltoria.
Russell's gaze fell on her injured shoulder.
The bullet had been removed, and her shoulder was bandaged, but since she was in a hospital gown, the bandages were hidden.
His eyes showed clear concern.
Adeline understood it but pretended not to notice, instead politely saying, "Mr. Hunter, please have a seat."
Then, she extended her hand to Harrison as he came back into the room.
Harrison froze for a moment, his gaze locking on her bright smile.
He reached out and took her hand, feeling a mix of emotions.
He understood she was defending him, showing Russell where her loyalties lay.
But seeing her like this only made him feel more guilty.
He hadn't protected her well.
Russell glanced at their joined hands, his face unreadable, and then he simply chatted briefly with Adeline, reminding her to rest well before leaving.
"You should see Mr. Hunter off," Adeline said to Harrison.
In her mind, Russell was a guest, and Harrison was her boyfriend. Adeline was injured, so it was Harrison who should see him off.
Harrison had no choice but to rise and walk
Russell to the door.
"Harrison, she really cares about you," Russell suddenly said.
His tone was hard to read, a mix of envy, jealousy, or maybe something darker.
Before Harrison could respond, Russell added, "She's so kind to you. Do you really deserve it?"
Just then, the Mendoza family arrived.
They had assumed that Harrison and Adeline would have enough time alone, so they went to buy some oatmeal. When they arrived, they saw Harrison and Russell standing outside talking.
"Why are you standing outside?" Seeing the tense atmosphere, Gracie quickly stepped in with a smile to defuse the situation.
Russell greeted the three of them and then said, "I have to leave now. I have something to do."
"Alright, take care. Thanks again for all your help. You're not returning to Orianto anytime soon, right? If you have time, let's have a meal together," Isaac said, shaking Russell's hand.
"You're too kind, Mr. Isaac," Russell smiled.
"Adeline's matter is my business."
Isaac chuckled, his stance neutral.
After Russell left, the three of them entered the room to talk to Adeline.
Harrison stood alone in the hallway.
He rubbed his temples, took out his phone, and called Bruce.
After hearing what Adeline said about the phone call, he knew exactly what to do.
Even though Kira secretly answering his call hadn't caused any major consequences, her actions were downright despicable. And worse-she did it with malicious intent.
Kira knew full well how urgent the situation was.
Yet, she still sneaked off with Harrison's phone and picked up the call behind his back.
And then she had the audacity to say those bad things to Adeline.
It was obvious-Kira never wanted Harrison to find Adeline in the first place.
She never once considered how much pain Adeline must have endured, being torn away
from her loved ones after being kidnapped.
Kira was cruel.
There was no way this would be let slide.
Bruce had been waiting for Harrison's call.
The moment his phone rang, he answered immediately.
After listening to everything Harrison had to say, Bruce furrowed his brows, but after a moment of thought, he let out a sigh of relief.
"I got it, Harrison," Bruce said. "I promise you. In a week, 'll take Kira to the hospital."
As soon as he hung up, Kira came running over.
"Dad, was that Harrison on the phone? What did he say?" she asked anxiously.
"In a week, you're coming with me to the hospital to apologize to Miss Mendoza," Bruce said grimly.
Kira, who had been on edge, instantly erupted.
"Apologize? To that woman? For what? She's back safe and sound, isn't she?"
"For what?" Bruce felt his head spin with rage.
"Don't you know exactly what you did?"
"But..."
"No buts. You're coming with me in a week. End of discussion!" Bruce shouted.
Harrison's demand wasn't just an apology.
But judging by Kira's reaction, just mentioning the apology was already enough to set her off...
If he told her the rest, she'd throw an all-out tantrum.
Better to wait until the day came-get her to the hospital first, then deal with the rest.
Kira wiped her tears and huffed, "Fine, I'll apologize. But why wait a whole week? Why not just get it over with now?"
"Did they really expect me to spend an entire week dreading this?" Kira thought.
Bruce let out a cold laugh. "Because Miss Mendoza just got back. She's injured. Harrison doesn't want you showing up too soon and ruining her mood. Do you get it now? In Harrison's eyes, you're not even worth a single strand of her hair."
Kira burst into even louder sobs.
Bruce didn't enjoy stabbing his own daughter in the heart.
But if he didn't make things clear now, she'd never let it go. She might even cause more trouble.
And one disaster like this was already more than enough.
Late at night, in Mugroaton, a woman staggered through a dark alley, running as fast as she could.
Her hair was a tangled mess, and her feet were bare, caked with dirt.
She was almost at the alley's exit, but just as she was about to escape, several men appeared, blocking her way.
"Miss Fraser," one of them said with a smirk.
"Don't struggle. Just come with us quietly."
