Chapter 413: I Will Fight For Her
Russell didn't dare to even think back to how he felt at that moment.
Fear, sadness, heartache... all feelings rushed to him. He couldn't bear to think about what would have happened if Adeline hadn't been saved.
Russell had never forced her to be with him, only wishing for her happiness, even if it meant he could only watch from afar.
But if Adeline were gone, he would lose his hope of living.
During the chaotic battle, Russell couldn't tell who was on which side. When he saw someone trying to stop Harrison's car from leaving, he had his people help block the way.
After those unknown foreigners retreated, he rushed to the hospital.
Thankfully, Adeline was out of danger.
Though she was injured, and his heart ached for her, the fact that her life wasn't at risk was the only relief.
After exchanging pleasantries with Russell, Alberto said, "I'm going in to see Adeline."
"She's still unconscious," Harrison quickly said.
"Keep it down. Don't wake her."
"Don't worry. I know."
Alberto slowly pushed the door open and stepped into the hospital room.
Adeline was still fast asleep, her pale face making Alberto's heart swell with guilt.
He wondered, "How much has she suffered these past few days?"
Now, she had been shot...
She had been his sister, the one he had promised to protect, and yet this time, she had been hurt again.
Alberto wiped his eyes, afraid his emotions would wake Adeline, and stepped out of the room.
As he walked out, he saw Harrison's red eyes and couldn't help but say, "You should rest. You haven't slept properly since Adeline went missing."
"It's fine," Harrison said. "I'll wait for her to wake up."
He had to be there when Adeline woke up, to hold her, talk to her..
And he needed to explain to her about the call Kira had taken.
"Harrison," Russell suddenly called his name.
Harrison turned toward him.
"Is this how you protect her?" Russell asked.
Those words hit Harrison like a hammer, deeply piercing his heart. Russell stood up, walked toward Harrison, and grabbed his collar.
Alberto rushed over to grab Russell's wrist, trying to calm him down. "This isn't Mr. Thomson's fault. It's our fault. We were careless and didn't protect Adeline well enough."
But Russell seemed to ignore him.
"Harrison, I know she has always been in your heart... I never wanted to come between you two. I know the last time, it was my fault. I dragged her into this." Russell's voice trembled, tinged with a hint of tears.
"But you? I always thought you would protect her."
Harrison's fists clenched so tightly that his nails dug into his palms.
It hurt, but it was nothing compared to the agony in his chest.
Alberto watched, feeling the sting of Russell's words.
Though Russell was speaking to Harrison, the blow hit him too.
He was Adeline's brother.
He, too, was the one who hadn't protected her.
After a long pause, Russell finally let go of Harrison.
He adjusted his cuffs and said, "I know I have no right to blame you, but Harrison, I'm telling you now. I won't step back. From today onward, I'll use every means to stand by her side. If I fail in the end, I'll accept it. But I'm going to fight for her."
With that, he cast a final, intense look at Adeline's room and turned to leave.
Alberto felt a little awkward standing there.
Seeing Harrison's grim expression, he wanted to say something but didn't know what to say.
After a moment, he finally said, "Mr. Hunter is just upset. Don't take it to heart."
Harrison's fists clenched and then loosened.
He said, "No. He's right. I've failed Adeline."
If he hadn't let Kira take that call, maybe he would have gotten there sooner, and Adeline wouldn't have been hurt.
Kira must've gotten more and more anxious after he left, so she told Bruce and had him figure something out.
When Bruce heard what she said, he nearly lost it Without even velling at her. he called Harrison immediately, begging him for forgiveness.
But at that time, Adeline was still in surgery, and Harrison couldn't focus on anything else.
By now, Bruce should've arrived...
Just as Harrison thought of Bruce, he heard footsteps approaching.
He turned around and saw Bruce hurrying toward him.
Bruce's face was flushed with sweat.
When he reached Harrison, he suddenly dropped to his knees.
Both Harrison and Alberto were startled.
"Bruce, what are you doing? Get up!"
Harrison furrowed his brow and quickly reached to help him up.
"Harrison, I... I'm sorry. It's my fault for not teaching my daughter properly," Bruce stammered, his lips trembling. "I had people watching her, but I failed. She still messed things up. I've already scolded her... but please, for all the years l've served the Thomson family, can you forgive her this time?"
Harrison helped him up but said nothing.
His silence made Bruce even more anxious.
"Harrison, how is your girlfriend?"
"She hasn't woken up yet," Harrison replied.
"She's not in life-threatening danger."
Bruce, hearing that Adeline was out of immediate danger, secretly sighed in relief.
He was desperately hoping she'd be fine.
If Adeline had been in serious danger, Kira would never have survived.
"Harrison, it's my fault, and Kira's. When your girlfriend wakes up, I'll bring Kira to apologize to her properly."
Alberto, hearing this, sensed something was off.
"Why apologize to Adeline?" Alberto frowned. "What happened?"
Bruce, lost in his apology to Harrison, had momentarily forgotten that Alberto was standing there.
Hearing Alberto speak, Bruce snapped to attention. "Mr. Thomson, this is..."
"This is Mr. Mendoza," Harrison said. "My girlfriend's brother."
Bruce's mind immediately clicked. Hearing
"Mendoza" and "Adeline's brother," he realized who this was.
He had already heard that Harrison's girlfriend was from the Mendoza family.
So he knew this man must be Alberto.
Bruce's scalp tingled with fear.
Even if he could convince Harrison to let Kira go, what about the Mendoza family? How could he ask for their mercy?
