Chapter 444: Make It Official?
Adeline had no time to react-Harrison pulled her straight onto his lap, catching her completely off guard.
The next second, she was met with a kiss so urgent and fiery that it stole the breath from her lungs.
Her heart pounded wildly, mostly from the fear that someone might walk in and witness this very compromising scene. She tried to push him away, but the man was immovable.
Then again... who would dare barge into
Harrison's office without knocking?
So Adeline let herself enjoy the kiss, just for a little while.
By the time Harrison finally released her, she was leaning against his chest, panting softly.
"This is the office," she said between shallow breaths.
"I know," he murmured, brushing her hair back.
"But I missed you."
Adeline looked up at him with a smile. "We were apart for less than twenty minutes."
He said, pinching her cheek, "Even a second without you feels too long."
"So what now? Should I move my desk into your office?"
His eyes lit up. "I wouldn't mind."
"In your dreams," she said with a light punch to his chest. "What would the staff think if they saw that?"
His smile faded as his eyes narrowed with mock danger. "What? You want to keep our relationship a secret?"
Adeline didn't respond.
It wasn't that she wanted to keep it hidden.
She just didn't want to be the center of gossip.
The last time there were just rumors, the whole company practically went into a frenzy.
If everyone found out they were officially dating, she'd be dealing with office gossip day in and day out.
Her silence made Harrison pout, his
voice tinged with grievance. "So you really don't want to make it official?"
Adeline chuckled, cupping his face and playfully squeezing it. "Who said that? You've already met my parents, and now you're accusing me of not making it official?"
"But your parents are overseas," he said pitifully.
"If you dump me now, I don't even have anyone to complain to."
"Oh? That's the angle you're going with?"
she teased, reaching out to pinch his waist.
But just then, someone knocked on the door.
Startled, Adeline jumped up from his lap like she'd been electrocuted and quickly smoothed out her clothes, standing at attention like nothing had happened.
Harrison gave her a wounded look. "And you say you want to make it official?"
"We're at work," she whispered. "We need to be professional."
Flirting was fine when they were alone, but now?
What if someone walked in and caught them like that?
Seeing her expression, Harrison sighed and let it go.
His tone cooled instantly. "Come in."
Several department heads walked in to give their reports.
Seeing Adeline already there, no one thought anything of it.
As Harrison's chief secretary, it made perfect sense.
"T'll leave you to it," Adeline said calmly before exiting.
Harrison gave her a brief glance, then nodded.
"Mm."
Some of the executives felt like something about the atmosphere was... odd.
But none of them dared say a word.
The thought passed, and within moments they were focused on their presentations.
After all, this was Harrison Thomson they were reporting to-one wrong look and he didn't even need to speak.
The soft thump of his pen on the desk was enough to make them sweat bullets.
When the meeting was over, Harrison called Adeline through the internal line.
She rolled her eyes. He clearly didn't need anything.
Instead of answering, she hung up and sent him a message.
"Get back to work. Stop thinking about nonsense."
He replied instantly, "But I miss you."
Adeline sighed. She never would've guessed that Harrison-Harrison-would be this clingy in a relationship.
They were already living together, and he still acted like they were newlyweds in a drama.
But she couldn't denv it made her heart flutter.
So her next message came a little softer.
"Alright. Focus on work. We'll have lunch together later."
He immediately responded with an enthusiastic, "Yes, ma'am."
"What do you want to eat?" she asked.
"Anything's fine," he replied, "As long as it's something you like."
Classic Harrison-always putting her first.
But since he was so accommodating, she felt like she had to consider his preferences too.
Cafeteria food was too public, but eating takeout in the office was a little boring.
So she opened her chat with Anna and typed, "Know any good new restaurants lately?. Preferably something light. Nothing too spicy."
She knew Harrison didn't care for strong flavors.
Anna replied quickly, sending two addresses of recently opened restaurants nearby.
Both looked promising.
Then Anna's curiosity kicked in. "Miss Hensley... wait, are you going on a date?"
And before Adeline could reply, another message came through:
"Oh my God. Is it with Mr. Thomson??"
Adeline groaned. Busted.
"Keep it low-key," she wrote back.
Anna immediately sent a flurry of excited screaming GIFs.
Adeline glanced over-Anna's face was flushed bright red. Clearly, she was trying very hard to contain herself. If they weren't in the executive suite, she probably would've screamed out loud.
"Miss Hensley," Anna messaged again, "are you two... like, married already?"
Adeline's eye twitched. This girl has quite the imagination.
"Not quite there yet," she replied. "But he's officially my boyfriend now."
And then, Anna actually screamed.
Everyone in the office jumped.
"What happened? Is something on fire?"
"Was that an earthquake?"
Adeline spun around and shot Anna a glare, mouthing, Keep it together!
Blushing furiously, Anna bowed her head.
"Sorry! Sorry! My bad! I'll... I'll buy coffee for everyone this afternoon!"
Everyone laughed it off, cracking a few jokes before returning to work.
But Anna wasn't done. Typing wouldn't cut it anymore.
She jumped up, grabbed Adeline by the wrist, and dragged her into the break room.
"Miss Hensley," she said breathlessly, practically vibrating with excitement, "you and Mr. Thomson spill! I need all the details!"
To her, both Harrison and Adeline were high above-two untouchable, godlike figures.
Now the gods were dating.
