Chapter 412: The Shocking Blood
They did find several boxes of different sizes and moved them to a corner near the wall.
They were stacked just right to form a kind of makeshift staircase.
With these boxes, they could climb and likely scale the wall.
The only risk was jumping down-there was nothing to break the fall, so it might hurt, or they might get injured.
But compared to the danger the enemies outside might bring, a little pain and injury seemed insignificant.
As soon as the boxes were in place, Natalia eagerly started climbing.
She was simply too terrified to wait any longer.
No one argued with her.
In moments like this, arguing would only waste precious time.
It was better to take turns and go one by one.
Natalia struggled to climb, and just as she reached the top, she hesitated to jump. But then, a gunshot rang out from somewhere close, startling her into leaping down, and she cried out in pain.
"Keep it down!" Jessica snapped, now climbing the boxes herself. "Is there anyone outside?"
"None in this area." Natalia gritted through her pain. "Hurry up, you all climb out. I think I twisted my ankle..."
Desmond couldn't help but mutter to Adeline, "We should have just stacked the boxes here earlier and snuck out when we had the chance."
As Adeline followed Jessica up the boxes, she responded, "It's not that simple. Most of these boxes were found by Jessica and Natalia, and they have keys to several rooms. Normally, we wouldn't have the keys to open any of those rooms, and bringing all these boxes in would definitely attract attention."
Plus, even if they managed to escape, they'd surely be spotted by the guards outside.
There were always a few guards
patrolling the house, no matter the time.
Jessica made it over the wall and jumped down.
She was more composed than Natalia, and when she jumped, she landed carefully, avoiding any injury.
It was Adeline's turn now.
She climbed up slowly, but as she was about to reach the top, she suddenly heard Jessica's voice.
"It sounds like there's a new batch of people coming."
"A third group? Is it their reinforcements? Or ours?" Natalia was confused.
"I don't know. It doesn't seem like it's either,"
Jessica replied, her voice uncertain.
Adeline's heart skipped a beat.
She thought, "The third batch of people? Could it be that my rescuers finally arriving?"
But she had just called Gracie...
There wasn't enough time to think about it now.
As she climbed over the top, preparing to jump, a gunshot suddenly rang out, and a bullet flew from somewhere and struck her shoulder.
The sharp pain surged through her, and in an instant, her body lost its balance, sending her plummeting from the top of the wall.
"Miss Hensley!" Jessica and Natalia cried in panic.
Desmond rushed to climb back up, shouting,
"Are you alright?"
Adeline pressed her hand to her shoulder, the intense pain nearly blurring her vision, her head spinning.
She could make out Jessica and Natalia crouching beside her, Desmond jumping down from the wall, speaking to her, his face full of concern.
Adeline tried to respond, but the pain was overwhelming, and her voice failed her. In her hazy state, she saw a tall figure running toward them. She tried to focus on who it was, but darkness quickly consumed her.
At Daltoria hospital, Alberto had just stepped off the plane and rushed straight to the hospital.
Gasping for breath, he reached Adeline's hospital room.
Outside, two tall figures stood by.
One sat on a bench, and the other leaned against the wall.
Alberto approached them and asked, "How is Adeline?"
The one sitting on the bench spoke first.
"The surgery's over. The doctor says she's fine. The bullet didn't hit anything vital, and they removed it. She just needs to rest and heal."
Alberto let out a relieved sigh.
The moment he had received the news, he rushed from Mugroaton without hesitation.
"Thank God. Thank God..." Alberto's voice still shook, a lingering fear in his chest.
When he first heard Adeline had been shot, he almost lost his mind.
Isaac and Gracie had also received the news.
But they were in a distant country, so it would take them a little longer to get there.
"Finally, we found Adeline," Alberto said, patting the shoulder of the man standing next to him.
"You can rest easy now."
The man he patted was Harrison.
Harrison's lips curved into a bitter smile.
Of course, he was happy that Adeline was finally back, but knowing she had been shot made his heart ache.
He hated himself. "If only I have found her sooner... If only I have rushed to her side earlier..."
Alberto turned to the man sitting on the bench.
"Mr. Hunter, we really owe you this one."
Russell stood up, shaking Alberto's hand.
"It's alright. I just happened to be there. Besides, I owe her."
"Her" referred to Adeline.
It was a bit of a coincidence.
Russell had been in Daltoria for business recently.
He didn't know that Adeline had been kidnapped by Benjamin.
Neither the Thomson family nor the Mendoza family had made the news public.
Russell, absorbed in his work, had no idea.
But by chance, he had been invited to a small gathering by a business partner.
At the event, he met a drunk man who mentioned a secret: his friend was about to kidnap a woman with ties to the Mendoza family.
Russell's interest was piqued.
He knew Adeline had recently been returned to the Mendoza family.
"Could it be that Adeline is the woman they are planning to kidnap?" Russell wondered.
Even if it wasn't Adeline, anyone connected to the Mendoza family would have ties to her.
So Russell asked a few more questions.
The man, clearly drunk, spilled more details-though not clearly.
Russell heard something about a candy house in the suburbs.
The man also mentioned that his friend had planted spies in the Tillman family, even near Benjamin, so they could learn the woman's Whereabouts.
Russell didn't fully understand the connection to the Tillman family, but given it involved Adeline, he couldn't ignore it.
He quickly assembled a team and headed to the suburbs.
When he arrived near the candy house, he saw Harrison carrying Adeline to a car.
And then, he saw the shocking, vivid blood.

Hooo! Finally. I hate Kira for this. If she didn't take the phone maybe Harrison would have arrived earlier
