Chapter 414: Don't Trust Him
Bruce said, "So, it's Mr. Mendoza."
Bruce wasn't some naive rookie fresh out of the world.
Even in such a tense situation, he quickly composed himself, greeting Alberto with a handshake.
But his mind was already racing, calculating solutions.
Harrison might be swayed by his personal relationship, but the Mendoza family certainly wouldn't be.
And, more importantly, Harrison cared far more about his girlfriend.
What Kira did was unforgivable. She would face consequences.
As Kira's father, he already failed in his guidance, and if he continued to shield her, it would only worsen things with both Harrison and the Mendoza family...
After shaking hands with Bruce, Alberto asked, "What exactly happened?"
Adeline's injury was a huge issue for the Mendoza family. If Kira was involved, the family wouldn't sit idly by.
"It's all Kira's fault," Bruce said with a bitter smile.
"She answered Harrison's call... It was Miss Mendoza who called."
He knew Adeline's name, but out of respect for the Mendoza family, he referred to her as "Miss Mendoza" in their presence.
At this point, Alberto probably understood what had happened.
"So, she answered the phone and said nonsense to Adeline?"
Bruce glanced at Harrison awkwardly.
The nonsense to Adeline was secondary.
What mattered was that Kira had answered
Harrison's call, interfering with the communication between Harrison and Adeline, even though it was only for a brief moment...
Harrison spoke up, "Bruce, we're family. If Kira only did something to me, I could overlook it for your sake. But this is different.
What she did affects both me and Adeline. I must do right by Adeline."
Indeed, Harrison didn't intend to blame Kira entirely for Adeline's injury.
As soon as Kira answered the phone, his men had already found the candy house, and he immediately set off to head there.
But Kira's actions were inexcusable.
Just when Adeline had finally made contact with him, hoping to speak, she had heard a woman's voice instead...
Harrison couldn't even imagine how devastated Adeline must have felt at that moment.
This couldn't be overlooked.
Bruce gritted his teeth and said, "Tell me what needs to be done, and I'll make sure Kira follows your instructions."
"What exactly did Kira say to Adeline on the phone?"
Kira's behavior was terrible, and her words determined just how bad it was.
"I don't know," Bruce admitted awkwardly.
He had been so furious when he learned Kira had answered Harrison's call that he immediately scolded her, never stopping to ask what she actually said to Adeline.
But, logically, it couldn't have been anything good.
"We'll wait until Adeline wakes up and then decide," Harrison said.
He had no intention of asking Kira directly.
After all, Kira would never admit to the truth.
"Then I'll call Kira now and have her come over. Once Miss Mendoza wakes up, Kira will need to apologize to her," Bruce said as he took out his phone.
"No need," Harrison replied coldly. "Adeline's injured. She won't want to see Kira right away if she wakes up."
Bruce, understanding the situation, reluctantly put his phone away.
Alberto, who had been quietly listening, felt out of place.
Not knowing all the details, he couldn't say much and had to wait for Adeline to wake up to get the full picture.
Just then, Harrison's phone vibrated.
He looked at the screen.
He recognized the number.
It was Benjamin.
Harrison walked a few steps to the side, his face cold as he answered the phone.
Before he could even speak, Benjamin urgently asked, "How's Adeline? Is she alright?"
"You don't deserve to know," Harrison replied coldly.
Benjamin's heart sank a little.
It seemed like Adeline was alright, or Harrison wouldn't be speaking to him so casually.
"Harrison, this is my fault," Benjamin said. "I had a mole in my team. That's how..."
"Enough," Harrison interrupted. "I don't want to hear your excuses. I'm only answering your call to ask who exactly your so-called enemies are?"
Harrison was out for vengeance.
Benjamin seemed reluctant to share details, muttering vaguely, "It's just a family feud from over a decade ago. The family's already fallen, and what's left is barely a shadow of what it was. I'll handle it."
Harrison sneered.
Since Benjamin wouldn't tell him, he would find out on his own.
Trusting Benjamin was no better than trusting a snake.
And there was still the matter of settling scores between him and Benjamin.
Sensing Harrison was about to hang up, Benjamin quickly added, "Now that Adeline's back with you, can my brother be sent home?"
"You're dreaming," Harrison replied.
Benjamin's unease grew. "What do you mean?"
"I've already handed him over to the police."
"Harrison, you..." Benjamin's rage flared.
"How dare you hand him over to the police?"
"Because he killed someone in Orianto," Harrison said. "I forgot to mention-he's already admitted that he had Amber killed."
"That's impossible." Benjamin's voice was filled with shock.
Unless Lance had lost his mind, there was no way he would admit to something like that.
Of course, Lance was a fool. How could he withstand Harrison's methods?
This was a disaster.
His father was going to be even angrier now.
Benjamin took a deep breath. "Harrison, I admit I made a mistake, but I won't give up. One day, Adeline will be back with me."
"I won't give you a second chance. And instead of making such bold claims, maybe you should worry about yourself. You think just because Adeline's back, I'll let you off the hook?"
Benjamin chuckled darkly. "It's fine. Do what you want. I'll be waiting for you."
After a pause, he added, "And one more thing, I think it's necessary to tell you-I never did anything to Adeline."
He said this not for Harrison, but for Adeline.
He was worried Harrison would start suspecting Adeline, and that would upset her.
And, of course, what he said was true.
Harrison's face remained cold as he hung up the phone.
Honestly, he had never even thought about it that way.
All he cared about was Adeline being safe and free from Benjamin's twisted grasp.
