Chapter 415: He's Lost Weight

Adeline groggily opened her eyes.

As soon as she regained consciousness, she immediately heard someone whisper, "Adeline's awake."

Although the voice was soft, the excitement was impossible to hide.

Then, she felt like several people rushed toward her.

A sharp pain radiated from her shoulder, and Adeline furrowed her brow, turning her head.

The first thing she saw was Gracie's concerned face.

"Adeline, how do you feel? Do you want some water?" Gracie asked.

"Mom..." Adeline called out.

The moment she said "Mom," Gracie's eyes welled up with tears.

"Adeline, it's all my fault. I wasn't cautious enough. I couldn't protect you. If only I hadn't taken you to the Livingston family that day..."

Gradually, Adeline regained her composure.

"Mom, it's not your fault. I wasn't vigilant enough either."

Looking around, it seemed she was in the hospital.

And Gracie was right beside her.

So, she was safe now.

The bullet hadn't taken her life.

And she had finally escaped Benjamin's twisted control.

A huge weight lifted from Adeline's chest.

Her gaze shifted to the side, and she saw her father, Alberto, and... Harrison.

The first thing Adeline noticed when she saw

Harrison was that he had lost weight.

He looked so much thinner.

Adeline thought, "How could he have lost so much weight in just a few days?"

When Harrison saw her looking at him, his lips moved, but no words came out.

Gracie saw this and gave Isaac and Alberto a look, signaling them to step outside.

Isaac was reluctant but was pulled out by Gracie and Alberto.

Now, the room was left with only Adeline and Harrison.

Adeline tried to sit up, but as soon as she moved, the pain from her shoulder shot through her, making her gasp.

"Take it slow." Harrison hurried over, gently helping her sit up, then placing a pillow behind her for support.

"I'm thirsty," Adeline said. "I want some water."

Harrison poured a glass of warm water, placed a straw in it, and brought it to her lips.

Adeline drank a few sips.

She looked at him and said, "Harrison." Then suddenly, tears began to fall.

"Man't er" Harrican caid hic vira hreating ac

"Don't cry," Harrison said, his voice breaking as he wiped her tears with his thumb.

"It's all my fault."

"I missed you so much," she whispered.

"I missed you too." Harrison held her hand tightly. "Adeline, I swear I will never let anything like this happen again."

"Benjamin, he... he locked me in a candy house and wouldn't let me leave or contact anyone. I missed you. I missed Dad and Mom, and I missed Alberto..."

Adeline hadn't planned to cry, but the moment she spoke to Harrison, she couldn't hold it back.

She hadn't cried when she was trapped in the candy house.

"I finally got a phone and called you... By the way, where's Desmond?"

At the mention of the phone, Adeline suddenly remembered Desmond.

"Don't worry. He's fine." Harrison reassured her.

When he arrived, Adeline had just been shot and collapsed.

Desmond and the two maids had surrounded her.

Harrison had them all taken to a hotel for the time being.

Desmond had already said that he had been tricked into working as a chef and had teamed up - with Adeline to escape, but they were attacked by enemies at the candy house.

Harrison wasn't sure if that was entirely true, so he had them temporarily placed under protection at a hotel.

Now, seeing how much Adeline cared for him, he believed Desmond's words were probably true.

"That's a relief." Adeline let out a breath of relief.

She and Desmond had gone through so much together.

She certainly hoped he was safe and sound.

Harrison wiped her tears with a tissue, saying, "Adeline, you've suffered so much."

"It's not that bad. I had good food and drinks

every day. It's just that the emotional pain was unbearable," Adeline said. "I finally had someone to talk to, and he gave me a phone. He even risked getting a charger for me to call out... But the first call I made, it was answered by a strange woman."

Hearing this, Harrison felt a wave of guilt rush over him.

"I'm so sorry, Adeline. I'm so sorry," Harrison said, his eyes red as he held her hand. "It's my fault. I missed your call..."

Honestly, Adeline was a little upset with him.

He was her boyfriend after all...

And when she finally turned on her phone, he was the first person she thought to call.

But when she dialed, it wasn't him who answered. It was a woman, who said all those confusing things.

Her heart had sank.

If she hadn't been as calm and collected, she didn't know what would have happened.

But looking at him now, she couldn't stay angry.

He looked so thin and frail.

She'd known him for over five years, and she had never seen him like this before.

These past few days, he must have been through so much searching for her.

And this wasn't necessarily his fault.

She should let him explain properly.

"Adeline, I was in the shower." Harrison said, "I left my phone by the bathroom door. I don't know how Kira got into my room, and she took my phone and answered your call without permission."

"Who's Kira?"

Adeline thought for a moment, but she didn't remember hearing the name.

"Bruce's daughter. You should know him."

As soon as he said Bruce, Adeline recalled.

After all, she had been Harrison's secretary for five years.

She had heard of the head of Daltoria's industry.

But she had never heard of his daughter.

"Adeline, I'm sorry," Harrison said with deep regret.

He only wanted to take a shower to clear his mind.

He hadn't had a good night's sleep in days.

He turned the water temperature down so he wouldn't feel too hot and could be more alert.

He took the quickest shower he could, and that's when Kira snuck into his room and took his phone.

"It's alright." Adeline gently stroked his face.

"This isn't your fault."

"Adeline." He leaned in and gently kissed her lips.

It wasn't a passionate kiss, but it was filled with the longing he had carried for so long.

Adeline recounted everything she had been through over the past few days.

"By the way, l've really got a connection with Desmond," Adeline said. "You should send him back to Orianto. He really wants to see his family. Also, let's help him out in the future, make his life a little better."

"Don't worry," Harrison said. "I'll send him home immediately."

"Good."

"By the way, what exactly did Kira say to you on the phone?" Harrison asked.
