Chapter 422 :Joyce Is in Daltoria
"I should have left later." Joyce kept muttering on the road, regretful. "If I could have gone to the Livingston family's banquet with you, I could have stayed by Adeline's side. Maybe then they wouldn't have succeeded."
"Don't think like that," Gracie said with a smile.
"It's no use keeping regretting. What we need to do is learn from what's already happened."
In truth, she wasn't saying this to Adeline but to herself.
After all, she had let her guard down when visiting a friend's house.
She hadn't even noticed when her daughter was kidnapped.
The Mendoza family had searched Adeline for over twenty years.
If something really happened to her this time, Gracie wasn't sure she could bear it.
Joyce, sensing Gracie's emotions, chose not to push the subject and instead talked about the sights and experiences of her travels to cheer Gracie up.
By the time they reached the hospital, Adeline was already asleep.
Joyce couldn't help but feel emotional as she gazed at Adeline lying in the bed.
She felt like crying, but she held back, not wanting to wake Adeline.
After sitting by her side for a while, Joyce left the room.
Outside the room, she spotted Harrison.
"Mr. Thomson," Joyce greeted him.
"Miss Monroe." Harrison nodded politely.
The conversation between them was brief, mostly revolving around Adeline, and soon there was nothing more to say.
So Joyce went back to chatting with Gracie.
Harrison watched her retreating figure, then lowered his head and sent a quick message to Sam.
"Joyce is in Daltoria."
Though the Mendoza family was concerned about Adeline, they knew enough to give Harrison and Adeline space, leaving the majority of the time for them to be alone.
So, Isaac and Alberto were busy dealing with the Tillman family, while Gracie took Joyce to try some local dishes in Daltoria.
Although they were both preoccupied with worrying about Adeline and didn't have much appetite they decided to at least try something since they were already in Daltoria.
Gracie had made reservations in advance.
As soon as they arrived at the restaurant, a server greeted them and led them upstairs to a private room.
Gracie was accompanied by a translator who was fluent in the Daltoria language, so they didn't worry about communication.
"We'll take some of it to go after we're done," Gracie said to Joyce.
"That's what I was thinking, but Adeline should only be able to eat light food right now, "Right."
They chatted as they walked upstairs.
At that moment, a few men were coming down the stairs.
One of them seemed to be from Orianto.
He had been talking to his companions, but when his eyes casually landed on Joyce, he froze for a moment.
Then he stared at her more intently.
Joyce noticed and felt uneasy, but she said nothing and just furrowed her brow.
The man seemed to realize he had been rude and, after muttering an apology, left with the others.
"Do you know that man?" Gracie asked.
"No, l've never seen him before," Joyce shook her head.
"Maybe he thought you were pretty, so he just stared for a bit?" Gracie teased.
"Stop joking around," Joyce said helplessly.
Neither of them knew that after the man left the restaurant and got into his car, he immediately picked up his phone and made a call.
The phone rang for a while before someone picked up.
"Who is this?" a slurred voice came through the speaker.
"Callan, are you drinking again?"
"Hmph... just get to the point," Callan said.
"I've got good news for you," the man smiled.
"Guess who I just saw?"
"I don't care who you saw..."
"I saw Joyce, the one you like."
Callan suddenly became alert. "Joyce? Are you sure?"
"Of course. You showed me her photo before and said she was the one you would only. marry. How could I forget? I made sure to look closely-it's definitely her."
"Where are you?" Callan asked urgently.
"I'm in Megaville, Daltoria," the man said.
"Alright, I'll be there right away," Callan said.
Hanging up, Callan felt the effects of his alcohol vanish.
He immediately booked a flight, quickly took a shower, changed clothes, and packed a few things.
As soon as he stepped out, he ran into Jamarion.
"Where are you going?" Jamarion asked, frowning as he looked at Callan's small suitcase.
Callan knew Jamarion could easily check his schedule, so he didn't bother hiding it.
"Daltoria," Callan said casually. "I've got a friend there who ran into some trouble, so I'm going to see if I can help."
Jamarion laughed.
"I don't even have much of a network in Daltoria. What can you possibly help with?"
Callan stayed silent.
Jamarion added, "You're going to find Joyce, aren't you?"
Callan had been making a big show of searching for Joyce recently, so Jamarion knew exactly what he was up to.
"Yes," Callan admitted. "I finally got news of her, and I can't miss this chance."
"Didn't I tell you to stop..."
"You said it, so what? Do I have to listen to everything you say? Where were you when I was struggling as a kid? Why didn't you do your job as a father and teach me then?"
Jamarion fell silent.
Every time Callan brought up the past, Jamarion couldn't say anything.
After all, it was his failure as a father.
Callan ignored him and dragged his suitcase away.
When Adeline weke up and saw Joyce, she was very happy.
The twe of them chatted for hours as if there was ne end te the conversation.
Just as they were laughing, the deer to the room opened, Harrison walked in first, followed by a man.
Joyce's eyes involuntarily swept over, and when she saw the man behind Harrison, she froze.
It was Sam.
Sam must have just arrived, as he had a weary, rushed aura.
Joyce had thought that when she saw him again, she wouldn't feel anything.
But at that moment, her heart still skipped a beat.
Adeline glanced at Joyce and smiled. "Mr. Juarez, what brings you here?"
"Well, Miss Hensley, I heard you were hurt, so I came to check on you," Sam said.
Adeline smiled and thanked him, but she knew better.
While she had been on good terms with Sam in the past, it didn't make sense for him to have come all the way from Orianto to Daltoria just to check on her.
Clearly, he was here for Joyce.
