Chapter 411: Enemy Attack
As the gunshots rang out, the lights in the house suddenly went out.
The night had already fallen.
When the power cut off and the lights went out, the entire house was plunged into darkness.
"Adeline, what's happening over there?" Gracie's terrified voice came through the phone. "I think I just heard gunshots."
"Mom, I don't know yet. Don't panic..."
Just as Adeline spoke, she heard two sharp beeps.
Her phone died-automatically shutting off because it had run out of battery.
Since the charger and the driver's phone weren't compatible, it was charging slowly, but it had worked long enough to let her use it for a while.
But now, with the power cut, the little bit of charge couldn't last.
And so, the phone died again.
Meanwhile, the sound of gunfire continued outside.
"Could it be someone had come to rescue me? No... something felt off. ..." she thought.
Suddenly, there was a frantic knocking on the door.
"Miss Hensley." Jessica's tense voice called out.
"You need to come out! There's an attack happening here. It looks like it's the enemies of the Tillman family!"
Adeline quickly unplugged the charger, tucked the phone in her pocket, and rushed to the door, opening it.
As soon as she opened the door, Jessica grabbed her and yanked her out, pulling her down the stairs.
It was clear Jessica didn't care about anything else right now.
"What's going on?" Adeline asked.
"I'm not sure, but a bodyguard just came in and said there's an attack happening, and from the weapons they're using, it looks like they're from an enemy family of the Tillman family. They're likely here for you. We need to hurry and escape through the back door."
Adeline was momentarily speechless.
Come to think of it, she was indeed an enemy of Benjamin's, forced to be locked in here by him.
"Why would the Tillman family's enemies come after me?" she thought.
"Desmond! We need to get Desmond!" Adeline hurriedly called out as they ran.
She and Desmond had been through a lot together.
With gunfire echoing everywhere outside, leaving him alone in here could be dangerous.
Even though they weren't targeting him, Adeline didn't know if they were ruthless enough to hurt anyone in their way.
Adeline couldn't just leave Desmond behind and run off.
"But..." Jessica didn't understand why Adeline cared so much about Desmond.
"Didn't they fight every day?" Jessica wondered.
Adeline didn't have time to explain. She shouted, "Where's Desmond's room?"
"That way..." Jessica pointed in that direction.
Adeline immediately ran towards it.
She didn't expect Jessica to come with her.
While they had been getting along well recently, their positions made it impossible for them to become friends.
She couldn't waste Jessica's time. Jessica needed to focus on escaping.
Adeline reached Desmond's room.
The door wasn't locked, and she pushed it open.
To her surprise, the room was empty.
"Where is he?" Adeline called out instinctively.
Just then, the wardrobe door creaked open.
Desmond was hiding inside.
"It's you! You scared me!" Desmond said, clutching his chest. "What's with all the gunshots? Get in here. Let's hide together."
"Stop hiding," Adeline said, rushing over and pulling him out of the wardrobe. "If those guys break in, do you think they won't search the wardrobe? Come on, let's go out through the back door."
Desmond didn't waste any time and immediately followed Adeline out.
As they ran, Desmond asked, "How did the phone call go?"
"I just told my mom the location," Adeline said, her voice breaking. "Now, we need to leave."
She still had the phone and charger on her.
Maybe there was a chance to contact her family again.
"My God, what is going on here? This place is too dangerous!" Desmond wailed as they ran.
The two of them burst out of the room and into the backyard.
Adeline immediatelv spotted the small door
had noticed earlier.
Jessica and Natalia were already by the door, with two more bodyguards standing guard.
Adeline and Desmond reached the door.
"What's going on?"
"There are enemies outside by the back door too," Natalia said, panic in her voice.
Her words seemed true, as Adeline could clearly hear more gunfire coming from the outside.
It seemed like Benjamin's bodyguards were in a firefight with the enemies attacking the place.
"What do we do now?" Desmond cried, clutching his head, eyes red. "Am I really never going to see my family again?"
The more Desmond panicked, the calmer Adeline became.
She took a deep breath and then asked one of the bodyguards, "How many enemies are out there, and how many of your men are here?"
"Including the two of us, we have seven men
guarding the back door," the bodyguard answered. "The others are at the front, fighting the enemy."
"We've already reported this to Mr. Tillman," another bodyguard added.
Adeline could tell this bodyguard was trying to comfort her.
She held back the urge to roll her eyes.
Benjamin couldn't provide her any sense of security.
If that damn man hadn't locked her up here, she wouldn't even be dealing with this right now.
Just then, there was a loud banging on the door.
Someone was trying to break through the small door.
Natalia screamed in fear.
Jessica quickly covered her mouth.
"Have our men been defeated?" one of the bodyguards said, his face pale.
"There are too many of them," another bodyguard said, gripping his gun tightly. "If they keep slamming against this door, it won't hold much longer."
"You all should go back inside and hide," the bodyguard urged.
Adeline looked around, thinking quickly.
"Is there a ladder?" she asked Jessica. "If we have a ladder, maybe we can find a hidden spot, climb over the wall, and get out. The enemies are focused on the front and back doors, and they're engaged with the bodyguards. They might not notice other areas."
"We don't have a ladder," Jessica said, her face pale. "Mr. Tillman didn't allow us to prepare one."
After all, a ladder would give Adeline another way to escape.
Benjamin would never allow that.
Cursing Benjamin under her breath, Adeline said, "Then let's go inside and see if we can find something else to climb on-anything, a chair, a crate, anything to help us escape."
With that, she sprinted toward the house.
Jessica, Natalia, and Desmond quickly followed.
Adeline knew they had to figure out a way to escape. If they stayed hidden inside, they'd just be sitting ducks.
