Chapter 464: A Lifetime of Repentance
Harrison's chest felt tight.
He remembered, of course he remembered.
"Then think again, the reason they targeted Miss Hensley is because of who?" Russell said with a slight smile. "Because of you."
Harrison didn't respond.
It wasn't that he had no words; he was just reflecting on the fact that, in the past, he had indeed wronged Adeline.
"But I have no right to criticize you," Russell said as he stubbed out his cigarette and threw it in the trash. "Miss Hensley was also schemed against because of me, so I have no grounds to blame you. I just want to remind you, you and I aren't much different. Right now, you're speaking - so boldly only because she likes you. But what if one day, she doesn't like you anymore?"
Harrison thought he was talking nonsense.
Whether Adeline liked him or not was not something Russell could decide.
"If you think you can do it, then try," Harrison said. "But Russell, I warn you, my patience is
limited. I won't allow you to keep harassing my girlfriend over and over again."
This was the final warning.
After saying that, Harrison turned and got into the car.
Russell watched the car fade into the distance, his expression growing darker.
The word "harassment" felt like a sharp stab to his heart.
But what could he do?
Harrison was Adeline's boyfriend now.
He had every right to say that.
All he could do now was try to maintain his composure in front of Harrison and bring up the past.
Since Adeline was now with Harrison, it meant she didn't want to dwell on the past anymore.
What right did he have to say anything?
It was iust his unwillingness to admit defeat in front of Harrison.
At that moment, footsteps approached from behind.
It was his assistant.
"Mr. Hunter, Jasmine's here," the assistant said. "I don't know how she found out you were here tonight, but she came to see you. Our people have already stopped her."
"Tell her to leave," Russell said coldly.
The assistant nodded and turned to leave.
Russell lit another cigarette.
He was smoking heavily now.
It seemed the only time the haze in his heart cleared was when he was inhaling smoke.
Right now, he had no intention of letting Jasmine off the hook.
First, he would expel her from the Hunter family.
Then, he would keep Rogelio under watch, not allowing them to meet.
Slowly, he would cut off Jasmine's access to all her cards.
He would also block any business dealings for the Snider family.
Now, the Snider family couldn't even find a location to open a shop.
He had even set a trap.
He made the Snider family lose a lot of money.
But that was still not enough.
In the past, although he resented Rogelio and Jasmine, he had never thought of doing anything to them.
But Jasmine dared to scheme against him, without any regard for the fact that he was her own nephew.
This woman was so foolish.
Did she really think that by causing trouble between him and Rogelio, she could defeat him?
Look at the result now.
Rogelio was not Russell's opponent.
Rogelio couldn't even send money to Jasmine now.
Jasmine, who had lived a life of luxury in the Hunter family, was suddenly expelled.
How could she handle that?
But Russell felt no sympathy for her whatsoever.
He was no longer the person he used to be.
On the way back, Harrison remained silent.
Adeline thought it must have been an unpleasant conversation with Russell.
She gently patted the back of Harrison's hand and said, "Don't think about him."
Harrison shook his head and said, "It's not about him. I was just thinking about some things from the past."
"Hmm?" Adeline was confused.
Harrison turned to look at her and said seriously, "Adeline, I realize now that I've caused you a lot of trouble in the past."
Just the schemes of Kaylie and Eleanor against her were enough to cause Adeline trouble.
Although Adeline was smart and solved things quickly, it still made her upset.
And back then, even though he didn't believe Kaylie's and Eleanor's words, if it weren't for him, Kaylie and Eleanor wouldn't have targeted Adeline.
Now that he thought about it, Harrison felt deeply guilty.
Adeline didn't expect him to suddenly say this.
She was stunned for a moment before nodding.
"Hmm, it seems that way."
Harrison felt even more guilty.
"But their actions weren't something you could control, and you've helped me too, haven't you?" Adeline continued, "Back when we weren't together, Mateo owed money, and I was forced to pay. It was you who lent me the money. When that blind date harassed me, you helped me out."
And even when they were in a cold war, Harrison chased her all the way to Yewhaina.
When she was kidnapped, Harrison spent days without food or rest searching for her.
She could see how much he cared for her.
Adeline spoke the truth.
But Harrison always felt that these were things he should do.
He reached out and held Adeline tightly, saying, "we agreed not to dwell on the past, when I think about it, I still feel guilty. Adeline, I swear I will spend my life making up for the wrongs you've suffered."
In fact, Harrison had said similar things before.
And he had been fulfilling his promise.
Adeline smiled and said, "Mm, I believe you."
Joyce had been very happy these days.
She had been traveling around the world with Sam.
Sam had originally planned to tell her about his past relationships, but Joyce thought about it and decided not to listen.
She wasn't really interested in his past.
As long as he was devoted to her in the future, that was enough.
However, she wasn't sure whether he would be completely faithful.
After all, he had been quite a flirt in the past.
And they had only just started dating.
In Joyce's mind, he was still under evaluation.
She did like him. But if her boyfriend couldn't be wholeheartedly devoted to her, she wouldn't settle for less.
These days, they were in Lubrea.
Sam told her a friend had recommended a great bar in the city.
Since they couldn't sleep that night, they decided to visit the bar.
The bar was indeed great, with a nice environment, not too noisy, and the bartender made excellent drinks.
After sitting for a while, Joyce felt like she needed to use the bathroom.
When she came out, she unexpectedly saw a beautiful Lubrea woman standing next to Sam, seemingly flirting with him.
And Sam was smiling so widely it looked like he was about to burst into laughter.
Joyce's gaze darkened.
She didn't immediately walk over.
Instead, she stood aside, hiding in a discreet spot.
Sam and the Lubrea woman were chatting happily, and Sam didn't even notice she had come out of the bathroom.
