Chapter 420: She Was His True Saviour
For a moment, neither of them spoke, silently sorting through the events of the past.
After a while, both of them said in unison, "I understand."
"Do you have a photo of Eleanor's father?"
Adeline asked urgently.
"Let me check."
Harrison immediately took out his phone and began searching online.
Maurice had once been a businessman, so his photo was bound to be available online.
It didn't take long for Harrison to find it.
And it was a photo of her father from over a decade ago.
Adeline glanced at it and immediately said,
"That's him-the man I saw talking near the tree when I was hiding behind it."
Actually, after all these years, the man's face should have been blurred in her memory.
But oddly enough, the man had a distinct
birthmark on his right cheek, shaped almost like a star.
That was why Adeline's memory of him was so vivid.
And Maurice had that exact same birthmark.
Harrison's gaze darkened. "Now I understand."
He had pieced together the events from that time.
It seemed that Maurice had actually been working with the kidnappers. He must have teamed up with one of the enemies of the Thomson family.
After Harrison had run away, they had followed him to the area.
But at that moment, young Adeline had spoken to the Thomson family's bodyguards and told them where Harrison was.
The bodyguards rushed to the abandoned building.
Maurice and his accomplices must have realized that the bodyguards were coming and warned him, so Maurice became scared.
The Thomson family's power was formidable.
Maurice began to regret teaming up with their enemies.
So he hurried to stop the kidnappers.
The bodyguards were slightly delayed by the accomplices, so they arrived a bit later than Maurice.
When Maurice arrived, the kidnappers had already begun their attempt.
In the end, Maurice scared the kidnappers off and, in an ironic twist, became Harrison's
"savior."
Harrison tightened his grip on Adeline's hand.
"So, it turns out that Maurice wasn't my savior, Adeline... you were."
If Adeline hadn't spoken up to the bodyguards, they wouldn't have headed in that direction, and Maurice wouldn't have been scared or hesitated.
Even though the bodyguards arrived quickly, if Maurice had tried to fight off the kidnappers, he might have gotten hurt.
"Well..." Adeline awkwardly scratched her cheek.
Although Harrison was right, it was still a bit strange to suddenly become the savior of her own boyfriend.
"But this is just our guess," Adeline said.
"Maybe I misheard, or maybe this is just the surface, not the truth."
After all, these were just speculations based on Adeline's memory.
"Maurice died seven years ago," Harrison said.
"The truth can only be answered by Eleanor."
After the Thomson family stopped supporting the Fraser family, Maurice couldn't hold up anymore. He became desperate, and many projects lost money. The Fraser family quickly fell apart, and in the end, he killed himself.
"Since Eleanor brought this up, it's likely that she knows the truth about what happened back then."
"Hmm."
Harrison raised his voice, calling out, "Rowen."
"Yes, Mr. Thomson." Rowen quickly entered.
"Bring Eleanor in."
Rowen gestured behind him, and a pale-faced Eleanor walked in.
"Harrison.."
"I told you not to call me that."
Seeing the cold look in Harrison's eyes, Eleanor hesitated before saying, "Mr. Thomson."
"Eleanor," Harrison said, "I know everything about what happened back then."
Eleanor trembled uncontrollably.
She looked at Harrison with terror, her lips quivering but unable to form words.
Harrison and Adeline both noticed her reaction.
A cold smile curled at the corner of Harrison's mouth.
Eleanor's reaction said it all.
He was only trying to test her.
Normally, Eleanor wouldn't have fallen for this.
She was a good actress.
But now, Eleanor had no way out.
She was already panicking.
Of course, she couldn't handle Harrison's test.
"Back then, your father was working with the kidnappers who tried to kidnap me, am I right?"
Eleanor wanted to deny it, but she felt like all her strength had been drained. Her legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor.
After a long pause, she suddenly laughed.
But this laughter was filled with bitterness and despair.
"It's over. I've lost everything. My last hope is gone..."
All this time, she had been too afraid to bring up the truth because she felt guilty.
She was afraid that Harrison would know the truth.
Now, she had decided to go all in.
But in the end, she had failed.
Laughing, she said, "I give up, Harrison. Do whatever you want. It was me who sent Lance to kill Amber. It was me... Let me go to jail. I don't care anymore. I don't want to fight anymore."
At that moment, she truly felt like everything was over.
She had schemed so much, and in the end, this was the result.
She was unwilling to accept this.
But there was nothing she could do.
Harrison already knew everything.
She thought, "It was all Adeline's fault. How could it have been so coincidental? Why was Adeline at that place?"
"Who was it that teamed up with your father back then?" Harrison asked.
"The Sargent family," Eleanor said with a pale face. "The mastermind who contacted my father has already committed suicide in prison."
The Sargent family had indeed been in conflict with the Thomson family for a long time.
But the Sargent family collapsed faster than the Fraser family.
The Sargent family had taken many risks to try and bring down the Thomson family.
In the end, they were struck back and sent to prison.
The person who had teamed up with Maurice committed suicide in prison.
The Sargent family had even thought about exposing Maurice.
But they realized that someone like Maurice would eventually bring disaster to the Thomson family.
It was better to let him stay in place.
And it turned out to be true.
Maurice had caused trouble for the Thomson family.
If it weren't for Lorenzo's and Harrison's strength, the Thomson familv wouldn't have been as strong as it was.
Now that the person who worked with Maurice had already died, Harrison lost interest in the matter.
After all, the people who tried to kidnap him were dead.
There was no point in thinking about it anymore.
"Take her away," Harrison said to Rowen.
"Send her back to Orianto and hand her over to the police."
"Yes, Mr. Thomson."
Before Rowen took her away, Eleanor suddenly looked at Adeline.
