Chapter 393: You're At Best a Villain
"I just want you to pass a message to your brother," Adeline said. "If he really cares about Eleanor, he should stop enabling Benjamin. Otherwise, neither of them will end up with a good outcome."
Benjamin raised an eyebrow, closed the magazine in his hands, and smiled. "So, you're not saying I won't have a good outcome either?"
Adeline said nothing.
But her expression clearly agreed with Benjamin.
She randomly clicked on a movie.
Benjamin turned to look at the screen.
Then he said, "I've never lost. This time will be no different."
Harrison was indeed a formidable opponent.
But Benjamin still didn't think he would lose.
He couldn't control Adeline's heart, but even if he couldn't win her love, he would still win her body.
That way, he wouldn't really be losing.
Adeline didn't feel like talking to him anymore and focused on the movie.
She had only been killing time anyway, not planning to actually watch it.
At first, her mind kept drifting-thinking about how to escape this place or how to contact the Mendoza family and Harrison.
But after a few minutes, she suddenly noticed that the movie's plot was about the male lead using the female lead as a replacement for someone else.
The male lead's first love had passed away. He was heartbroken for years, and then, at an event, he met the female lead, who looked strikingly like his lost love. He couldn't help but get close to her.
Upon seeing this plot unfold, Benjamin became focused.
At first, the female lead didn't know she was just a stand-in.
The male lead kept getting closer to her, treating her kindly, and the female lead couldn't help but start to fall for him.
But after dating for a while, just when they were about to meet their families to discuss marriage, the female lead discovered the truth: the male lead had been using her as a stand-in.
She was devastated and confronted him.
The male lead admitted it, even showing her pictures of him with his first love.
The female lead slapped him and broke up with him.
But after a series of melodramatic twists and turns, love, hate, and grudges, the couple ended up back together.
Benjamin smiled, satisfied with this ending.
Meanwhile, Adeline was nearly falling asleep.
"Did you see that?" Benjamin asked.
"See what?"
"The male and female leads ended up together."
"So?" Adeline smirked. "You don't actually think you're the male lead, do you? Don't kid yourself, you're at best the villain."
"Why would I be the villain?" Benjamin asked. "I just want to win back my true love."
"Villains never think they're villains," Adeline said coldly.
Benjamin actually paused, considering her words.
Then he nodded. "Hmm, that makes sense."
Adeline thought she had gotten through to him.
But the next moment, Benjamin said, "It's fine. I'm willing to be the villain."
Adeline couldn't hold back a roll of her eyes.
She stood up and headed upstairs.
Staying with Benjamin was suffocating her.
When she reached the second floor, the maid was cleaning the hallway.
Adeline asked where the study was, and then went there to read.
The study was filled with books from her own country, probably to make it easier for her to read.
If this had been anyone else, in any other situation, she would've found it thoughtful.
But this was Benjamin...
He wasn't being considerate; he just wanted to keep her locked up here.
Adeline rummaged through the books and picked out a horror novel.
She was quite into horror novels.
Just as she was starting to get lost in the story, a soft voice interrupted her.
"Why are you reading this?"
Adeline jumped, her hand shaking as the book dropped to the floor.
If she hadn't been so calm, she would've screamed.
Benjamin bent down and picked up the book.
"What's wrong with you?" Adeline snapped.
"Didn't you know it's rude to disturb someone when they're reading?"
"Sorry," Benjamin apologized, looking genuinely contrite.
He looked down at the book in his hands and said, "I was just thinking, she never liked horror novels or horror films. She'd be scared."
Adeline laughed bitterly. "So, I'm not her. Haven't you figured that out?"
She snatched the book from Benjamin's hands.
"You want to use me as a stand-in and still want me to cooperate? Sorry, I love horror novels."
If she'd known this, she would've watched a horror movie earlier.
She flipped to the page she had been reading and continued.
She read while Benjamin watched her.
Adeline didn't care, completely ignoring his gaze.
After a while, Benjamin spoke up. "Don't get too absorbed. Lunch is ready."
Adeline didn't respond.
Benjamin walked away.
Actually, Adeline couldn't keep her focus on the story anymore.
She turned to look out the window.
That was when she noticed that, from the study's window, she could see the back of the house.
There was a small door in the backyard.
She wasn't sure if any guards were watching it.
From her angle, she didn't see anyone.
Maybe, just maybe, she could try to slip out through that door in the afternoon.
Adeline thought, "Though it seems unlikely... But what if I could escape through that little door?"
If she got out of here, she could hide for a while, avoid Benjamin's people, and then find a chance to return to the city and contact the Mendoza family and Harrison.
The thought made her heart race.
She couldn't focus on the book anymore.
Instead, she stared at that little door, mentally retracing the path she had taken earlier.
After a while, there was a knock at the study door.
The maid's voice came through, "Miss, lunch is ready."
Reluctantly, Adeline tore her eyes away from the door and left the study.
The dining table was filled with dishes.
Adeline looked over the dishes; they all seemed to be on the bland side.
"Mr. Tillman said you were feeling nauseous on the plane yesterday, so your stomach might be upset, or maybe you're pregnant. He asked the chef to prepare some light dishes for you."
Adeline was speechless.
Did Benjamin not realize that it wasn't stomach issues or pregnancy that made her sick? It was the effects of the drugs he'd given her.
She hadn't eaten much for breakfast, and now she was actually hungry.
She sat down at the table, picked up her fork, and heard the maid say, "A doctor is coming this afternoon."
"Why is the doctor coming?"
"To draw blood."
Adeline was speechless.
She used to be so calm.
But now, she was feeling increasingly irritable as she wanted to dump all this food on Benjamin's head.

Adeline you should really dump all the food upon Benjamin's head for common sense to get into his head that you're not to be used as a STAND IN for his late Whitney.
