One night stand with my president (chapter 404)

Chapter 404 We May Die:

The maid continued, "Then, Desmond didn't seem too happy either. He said that if Miss Hensley thought the chowder tasted bad, she could make it herself. She agreed, and now she's in the kitchen making chowder."

"Oh?" Benjamin's interest was piqued immediately.

He thought, "So Adeline is cooking herself."

He couldn't miss this scene for the world.

"I'll go take a look," Benjamin said.

Just as he stood up, his phone rang.

It was a call from his father.

Benjamin's gaze darkened as he said to Natalia,”You can go now."

"Yes, sir."

In the kitchen, after turning on the exhaust fan, Adeline turned to Desmond and said, "You don't want to stay here, do you?"

Desmond, standing closer, heard her clearly,

while Jessica, by the kitchen door, could only faintly hear them and couldn't make out their words.

Adeline's hands didn't stop moving, so Jessica assumed they were just discussing the chowder.

Hearing Adeline's words, Desmond froze for a moment.

But Desmond was no fool.

Quickly, he returned to his earlier, sarcastic expression, not letting Jessica see anything unusual.

Then he asked, "What do you mean by that?"

"Would you be willing to cooperate with me and escape this place together?" Adeline asked. "Of course, this plan carries a certain amount of risk. If we fail, you could be in danger-potentially life-threatening danger."

She wasn't joking around with this.

That was why she needed to make sure Desmond understood the consequences upfront.

Desmond's hists clenched tightly.

Sensing he might not take her seriously, Adeline added, "You've seen the situation here. I'm not playing games. There is a real risk to your life, so think carefully before making any decisions."

Of course, if they did team up and fail, she would do everything in her power to protect Desmond.

But she didn't need to mention that part yet.

No need for him to hope too much just to agree.

Right now, Desmond's mind was spinning with conflicting thoughts.

He did want to leave this place.

But he wasn't sure what kind of plan Adeline had in mind.

If the plan failed, his life would be at risk.

But his family were waiting for him to return home.

Desmond didn't want to die.

But Desmond thought through the current situation.

All his communication devices had been confiscated, and he was locked up here.

He wondered if he would ever have a chance to leave here.

Desmond thought, "If Mr. Tillman didn't want me spilling the secrets of this place..."

Only a dead man could keep secrets.

If one day Desmond was no longer useful, they might just kill him.

All this time, he had been enduring in a foreign land, and in the end, he might die without ever seeing his wife and child again.

Either way, Desmond may die.

And he might as well take a gamble.

If he succeeded, Desmond could hurry back home and reunite with his family.

"I've made up my mind," Desmond said, gritting his teeth. "I'll cooperate with you. Let's find a way to escape."

"Good," Adeline replied. "Let's hope our plan works smoothly."

She stirred the chowder in the pot, smiling as she said, "I'm sorry. Earlier, I just wanted to talk to you privately, so I intentionally provoked you. Actually, your chowder is quite tasty.  Everything you cook is delicious. I really like it."

At her words, Desmond's mood lifted immediately.

After all, he had just been feeling insulted by her earlier comments about his cooking.

Now Adeline was telling him his cooking was good.

Naturally, he felt pleased.

"We don't have much time. I'll find another chance to talk to you," Adeline said. "For now, act normal, and don't let anyone notice anything."

"Got it."

Adeline made a simple tomato and egg chowder.

Not long after, it was ready.

She ladled the chowder into a bowl, turned off the exhaust fan, and as she turned around, she found Benjamin standing at the kitchen door, his eyes fixed on her with an intense gaze.

His look both startled and disgusted Adeline.

So, she ignored him.

"My chowder's ready," Adeline said to Desmond.

"I'm sure it tastes pretty good."

Desmond snickered and said, "It's just a simple tomato egg chowder. You're comparing this to mine?"

"Forget about the chowder. As long as it tastes good, that's all that matters," Adeline replied.

Just then, Benjamin spoke up, "Let me try it."

"You wish," Adeline sneered. "Why should I let you drink my chowder?"

Reluctantly, Benjamin's eyes flashed with disappointment, but he didn't push it.

He had just gotten off the phone with his father, who had scolded him to hurry back to Mugroaton.

He had his secretary rebook his flight, bringing it forward by several hours.

He would be heading to the airport soon.

"Adeline," Benjamin said, "I'm leaving today.

You won't see me for a while."

Adeline's heart skipped a beat.

Actually, she had overheard part of Benjamin's conversation with his father last night.

Although he was speaking in Mugroaton's language, she understood enough to catch the gist of it.

She had guessed he was going back to Mugroaton.

She hadn't expected it to happen so soon, and it was a pleasant surprise.

Though Benjamin would likely leave

plenty of his men behind to watch over her, his absence would certainly make it easier for her to execute her plan.

"Adeline, I know you're happy," Benjamin said with a wry smile. "But you don't have to make it so obvious."

Hearing that, Adeline realized she was smiling.

But she already disliked Benjamin, and he knew that too, so her smile wouldn't give her away.

"Of course, I'm happy to see you go," Adeline said. "If you're leaving, hurry up."

"Adeline, even though I'm not here, you still won't be able to escape," Benjamin added.

"I don't need you to remind me," Adeline snapped. "Get lost!"

Jessica and Natalia were standing nearby, listening in, their hearts racing.

They had never seen anyone dare to speak to Benjamin like that.

The most surprising part was that Benjamin wasn't angry at all.

After giving a smile, he turned and left.

As Benjamin walked away, Adeline's heart soared.

She placed the tomato egg drop chowder she had made on the table.

She took a sip and nearly spit it out.

While she had been talking to Desmond, she hadn't paid much attention to the seasoning, which led to the chowder being rather unpleasant.

Meanwhile, Harrison was in a car, traveling through Daltoria.

He had been searching for Adeline across the country for days.

He had visited several cities.

But all in vain.

Bruce had been keeping him updated with any possible leads.

Every time a potential location came up,

Harrison went there in person. .

But... he still hadn't found Adeline.
