Chapter 380: Out of Control
Collin really loved Milania.
From college days to when she married and had children, he had always loved her hopelessly.
Even if he could only be her secret lover, doing her dirty work, he was content with that.
He knew Milania was probably deceiving him.
Even if she succeeded in taking control of the Thomson Group, she would never divorce Ashton, never be with him.
But as long as she would look at him, he was satisfied.
But what he never expected was that Milania wanted to have him killed.
He loved her so much... Whatever she wanted to do, he would help her without hesitation. Even knowing that some of it could ruin him, he still didn't refuse.
But she had no feelings for him whatsoever.
She could coldly send someone to kill him without a second thought.
"Ashton, I've woken up. A woman like this
doesn't deserve anyone's love, trust, or protection," Collin said bitterly.
Milania still clung desperately to Ashton.
If Ashton wouldn't protect her, she would be finished.
The Thomson family would surely throw her in jail.
After everything she had done, with the Thomson family's legal team, she'd be locked away for life.
After a long silence, Ashton finally spoke.
But he wasn't speaking to Milania.
He was addressing Lorenzo and Harrison.
"Dad, Harrison... I won't be involved in this anymore."
Milania's body shook violently, her fingers clinging tightly to Ashton's arm, unwilling to let go.
"Ashton, you can't abandon me. We've been married for over twenty years, I even gave
you a son..."
Before she could finish, Ashton suddenly shoved her away.
He raised his hand, as if about to slap her.
But in the end, the slap landed on his own face.
"I regret it. I'm so stupid." Ashton slapped himself hard. "Why didn't I see your true colors sooner? Why did I let you into the Thomson family?"
"Enough!" Lorenzo, his father, looked at him with pained eyes. "Take her away."
As soon as he finished speaking, two maids stepped forward, each grabbing one of Milania's arms.
"Ashton, are you really going to leave me like this?" Milania screamed like a madwoman. Seeing Ashton ignore her, she turned to Ronan. "Ronan, I'm your mother. Aren't you going to stand by and watch them destroy me?"
Ronan's face turned pale, his lips trembling uncontrollably.
"Mom." His voice cracked. "It's not anyone else harming you... It's you who's hurting everyone."
As soon as he spoke, Milania said noting. She let the maids drag her away without a fight.
Harrison gestured, and Rowen dragged Collin out as well.
The words Ronan had just spoken seemed to drain all his energy.
Watching Milania being taken away, he collapsed, lifeless, onto the floor.
Harrison stepped forward, lifting him up.
Lorenzo quickly followed, gently patting Ronan's forehead.
"Ronan, don't be sad."
Ronan tried to smile at Lorenzo, but the smile wouldn't come.
Just then, Isaline rushed in.
"Ronan, are you alright?"
Since the New Year's Day when Ronan kissed her, he had been distancing himself from her, deliberately or not.
Isaline didn't want to push him.
So they hadn't spoken for days.
When Isaline heard something had happened, she rushed over, anxious to see him.
Seeing Ronan in this state, she was worried.
Ronan's eyes flickered when he saw Isaline.
Slowly, he reached out and grabbed her arm, resting his head on her shoulder.
"I..."
He wanted to say something, but the words caught in his throat, his voice breaking into sobs.
He didn't speak anymore, simply leaning on Isaline's shoulder, crying silently.
He didn't understand how things had gotten this far.
He once thought he was the luckiest man alive, born into the prestigious Thomson family, where even if he were useless, he would live a life of luxury and ease.
He never thought about competing for anything or harming anyone. He just wanted to live a happy life.
But life doesn't always go as planned.
The woman he liked didn't like him back, but that was fine.
As long as the woman he loved was happy, that was enough.
He'd be happy just watching her from afar.
But now his mother had ruined everything.
He couldn't understand and thought bitterly,
"What was wrong with our life? Why couldn't mom be content? Why did she have to reach for things she couldn't control? If she had fought for herself openly, fine. But instead, she had resorted to harming others. And she betrayed my father..."
Ronan suddenly remembered a
conversation in Marifort City, where someone had mentioned Milania with a man in a bar.
That must have been when she was with Collin.
He had suspected something then, but Milania had tricked him.
He felt guilty, thinking he shouldn't have doubted his mother.
Now, looking back, he realized how foolish he had been.
No, he couldn't call himself foolish. No children would want to suspect their own mother.
Actually, just now, he wanted to ignore everything. He wanted to beg his grandfather and brother to let Milania go. He could take her abroad, run far away, and never come back.
But Ronan didn't know who would take responsibility for the harm Milania had caused.
No one would make up for the pain his father had suffered.
The slap his father had given himself still echoed in his heart.
Lorenzo sighed quietly and signaled to Isaline, telling her to take Ronan back to rest.
Isaline understood and slowly led Ronan away.
Ronan didn't resist.
After they left, Ashton stood there in a daze.
He had slapped himself with all his strength.
Now, his face was swollen.
Lorenzo instructed someone to bring ointment, but Ashton waved him off. "No need, Dad."
He said solemnly, "It's my fault. I've caused you to worry."
"Ashton, don't think that way." Lorenzo patted his shoulder. "This isn't your fault."
"I misjudged people, and that's my fault."
Ashton's voice trembled. "And... I realize that I've been selfish."
He understood now.
When he first learned that Milania almost harmed Harrison, he still wanted to protect her.
It wasn't until it affected his own interests that he finally abandoned her.
Ultimately, he couldn't face Harrison.
And if it hadn't been for Harrison, he probably would have spent his entire life in the dark.
Milania was cold and ruthless-nothing she did would surprise him.
Who knew, one day, he might be her next victim.
After a brief silence, Ashton said, "Harrison, I'm sorry... and thank you."
