Chapter 350: Self-Taught
But why would Edward let the Thomson family think he was dead?
The woman by his side might be the reason for his faked death.
Perhaps he had fallen in love with her, and his feelings for her had caused him to make this drastic decision.
However, if he wanted to divorce, not only would Myra possibly refuse, but Lorenzo would definitely oppose it first.
In wealthy families, divorce isn't so simple.
If Edward had simply proposed a divorce, with Lorenzo's methods, he would probably have never been able to be with that woman in his lifetime.
So, he faked his death.
Everyone believed he was dead, and that would allow him to take his beloved woman and start a new life in a foreign country.
The Thomson family had no business interests in Yewhaina.
It was unlikely that any of the Thomson family members would come to Yewhaina.
So, Edward chose to settle in Yewhaina.
Indeed, if Harrison hadn't come to Yewhaina to find Adeline, he would never have run into Edward.
As these thoughts ran through her mind, Adeline shook her head and gave herself a mental slap.
"What on earth was I thinking? Who could possibly do such a thing?"
Abandoning a wife and child, making everyone think he was dead, causing everyone to mourn for him-this was too cruel.
Thankfully, she had only entertained these thoughts in her mind and hadn't spoken them aloud.
That guess was far too absurd.
Just then, Harrison spoke softly.
"Adeline, that man is really likely to be my father. Back then, no one ever truly saw his body. Now, his grave is nothing but a monument to an empty coffin.”
They were thinking along the same lines.
"But if he really didn't die, why didn't he come back all these years? And what about the woman and child with him?" Harrison asked.
"Don't think about it right now," Adeline said softly. "Let's wait for the results of the investigation. Let's just go home first, Okay? You need to rest."
"Alright..."
Knowing that Harrison wasn't in a good state, Adeline didn't let him drive.
She drove them back to the Mendoza family.
Isaac and Gracie hadn't returned yet.
Adeline and Harrison went back to her room.
"Would you like some coffee?" Adeline asked. "I can make some for you."
Before she could finish, Harrison pulled her into his arms.
"Don't go," Harrison said. "Don't leave me alone here."
At that moment, he exuded a kind of vulnerability he had never shown before.
And that made Adeline feel even more protective of him.
"Alright, I won't go," Adeline replied. "I'll stay with you."
To distract Harrison, Adeline took his hand and sat him down at the desk, suggesting they draw together.
"I never knew you were so good at drawing,"
Harrison commented.
Although Adeline was only drawing mini-characters, they looked lively and adorable.
"It's nothing special," Adeline said with a smile.
"I'm self-taught."
Harrison smiled and gently ruffled her hair.
Then, he picked up a pen and began to draw a mini version of her.
When he finished, Adeline looked at it and commented, "It's not as good as mine."
Even though she said that, she carefully tucked the drawing away.
After all, it was a drawing of her by her boyfriend.
She wanted to keep it as a keepsake.
The two of them sat there, drawing, chatting, and laughing. Harrison seemed to be in much better spirits.
Just then, Adeline's phone rang.
She glanced at the caller ID.
Then, she looked at Harrison.
Harrison reassured her, "I'm fine. Since we've started the investigation, we should find out the results."
Adeline picked up the phone. The person on the other end said something, and Adeline responded with a brief "Mm" before saying,
"Thank you for your hard work."
It was a subordinate she had contacted earlier.
This subordinate was highly efficient and had already sent all the information about the man to Adeline's inbox.
Adeline opened her laptop and accessed her email.
Harrison sat next to her, wrapping his arm around her waist.
As long as Adeline was by his side, his heart felt a little steadier.
Adeline clicked on the email her subordinate had sent.
Inside, there was not only the man's information but also details about his family.
The information revealed that the man's name was Elliot Dixon. He had arrived in this city ten years ago, but prior to that, he had lived for several years in a remote town in Yewhaina.
However, there were no records of him before his time in Yewhaina.
It was as if he had appeared out of thin air in Yewhaina.
Ten years ago, another person had come with him to the city-his wife, Britney Terry.
There was a photo of his wife in the documents, the same woman who had been with him in the mall.
After arriving in the city, Elliot had worked at a securities exchange, and he had continued working there ever since. His wife, on the other hand, had been a stay-at-home mother.
They had a daughter, born seven years ago.
Harrison's eyes were fixed on the man's photo in the documents.
The photo seemed to have been taken ten years ago, and the man appeared much younger than he did now.
That only made him look even more like
Harrison's father.
It was truly a perfect match.
The most unsettling thing was that there were no records of this man before his arrival in Yewhaina.
Harrison sat in silence, his mind racing.
He remembered how devastated he had been when he first learned of his father's death.
Not only him, but also his grandfather, and his mother...
Back then, because no one had actually seen Edward's body, the Thomson family had refused to believe he was truly gone for some time.
But the explosion that destroyed Edward's car had been undeniable.
It was clear someone had been in the car, and there had been no chance for survival.
Moreover, if Edward was alive, why hadn't he come home? After a period of investigation, the Thomson family finally accepted that Edward had truly passed away.
Harrison knew his parents' marriage had been a business arrangement.
But Myra had genuine feelings for Edward.
After all, they had been married for many years.
Myra had devoted herself wholeheartedly to being a good wife to Edward, supporting him in many ways.
So, after Edward's death in Mugroaton, Myra had taken years to recover.
At that time, she was still young, and if she had wanted to remarry, the Thomson family would have supported her, and Harrison wouldn't have opposed it.
But Myra never remarried. Instead, she lived quietly with her memories of Edward.
Even now, Lorenzo often spoke fondly of his son.
He was his eldest son, his biological child.
How cruel that was for Lorenzo to bury his own child.
But now, Harrison had discovered that • his father might not have died after all.
He was living in Yewhaina, married with a child, and leading a happy life.
Of course, finding out that his father might still be alive made Harrison incredibly happy-perhaps even overjoyed.
But this discovery also made his feelings more complicated and confused.
